    Tom Hanger Home Improvement
Tom Hanger Home Improvement did an exemplary job. Attention to detail, professional attitude and honest. Rick Hylton, the owner, met with me a couple of times to discuss concerns and walked the project with me answering questions and confirming detail. They arrived on time as scheduled, did the work well and cleaned up before they left. They outperform by far any other subcontractors I have had working on my project from ****.

    Restore Build
We worked with Ernie to design and build an enclosed screened deck/porch with metal roof. From the beginning Ernie was willing to work with us to update and refine the design and adjust the work and estimates. Because of his ideas and flexibility we ended up with a much improved final product. Ernie worked closely with the engineer to obtain and update drawings (who was difficult at times), and he always remained up-beat and professional. He also worked with the county for permits and inspections, which went smoothly. Ernie and his team also went above and beyond getting our hot tub onto the deck, which took a lot of planning and ingenuity. By the time he was finished we felt like family and missed seeing him each morning. We found Ernie and his team to be hard-working, honest, friendly and a joy to work with. They kept the work site tidy and left it immaculate when done. We HIGHLY recommend RestoreBuild, based on our experience and will not hesitate to contact Ernie when we have future projects. We have attached several pictures of the completed porch. Kevin & Tracy T.

    J&D Handyman Services LLC
I did not select this company because of a frustrating lack of responsiveness, an estimate that took weeks to provide and was very high (almost twice what I eventually paid the excellent company I chose instead), and given the shocking high estimate, I was dumbfounded that my emailed request for a written breakdown of the estimate in writing (e.g. $xxx to replace the barn roof, $xxx to repair the house siding, etc) garnered a voice-mail from the owner Daniel indicating that he was not willing to invest that kind of time until I agreed to hire his company (the details would be in the contract, he explained).  This was weeks after I grew increasingly frustrated by my repeated efforts to get responses to calls and emails.  After an initial good experience (a visit by Daniel on Friday 11/9, who spent about 30 minutes surveying the damage), he told me that I would likely receive a response by the following Tuesday 11/13.  The following Friday (11/16) when I had not received a call or email, I called the office and was advised that Daniel had been out on a job, but the very polite person who took the call promised a call back by that afternoon.  I received no such call.  The following week, on Tuesday 11/20 at 5:28PM, I received an email from "Crissy" at J&D advising "Daniel wanted me to follow up with you about the itemized insurance claim sheet for the time and materials that the insurance has approved to pay.  Please send at your earliest convenience."   There had been no previous request for this information, and this seemed (to me) a convenient way for them to explain why I had not received anything from them a full 18 days since Daniel surveyed my property.  I was truly confused and irritated, so the next day I went to their office.  I expressed my frustration at both the delay and the sense that they had been waiting on "me", and asked Daniel why they "needed" my insurance breakdown before providing an estimate for something they had thoroughly surveyed.  Daniel stated that they normally see the insurance breakdown before providing the estimate, but he promised that he would provide the breakdown by close of business the next day (11/22).  Since that day was Thanksgiving, I said that I'd be happy receiving it by COB Friday 11/23.  I of course did not receive the estimate that Friday, but the following week (Tues, 11/27) while I was out I received a call from my irritated Daughter who indicated that Daniel had just called the house and proceeded to start rushing through a cost breakdown over the phone with her.  She advised him that he needed to speak to me (she has no idea about the issue and was not comfortable trying to write everything down for fear that she would get something wrong), but she said that he seemed unwilling to stop rushing through the breakdown.  Even more amazing was the estimate amount.  The insurance adjuster estimated under $7,000 worth of work, and Daniel's estimate was close to $14,000 (wow).  Ok, so maybe he was seeing work or complexity that the adjuster didn't, that's fair as long as I get the details and can sort it out with insurance.  So I followed up on 11/28 with an email stating "My daughter passed the message that you called with the estimate.  If you could reply to this email with the breakdown, that would be great.  Then I can start discussing the delta with the insurance company.  Thanks, Joe."  What happened next amazed me.  Three weeks after the initial survey, after frustrating estimate delays and being advised that they were "waiting on me", after the estimate was provided via phone to my beleaguered daughter, I came home from work to find a voicemail from Daniel explaining that they had received my email requesting the estimate breakdown in writing, that he based his "phoned in" estimate on "pages of my own scribbles and handwriting", and that he did not do "written" breakdowns because they take too much time, and that I would see the breakdown in the contract if I chose to hire them for the job.  I was so angry at this point I walked away from the phone as the voicemail continued.  I have since spoken with three neighbors and coworkers who have had experience with J&D, and they had similar experiences and did not hire them.  I had based my selection on the fact that a local newspaper had them rated # 1 for four years straight.  After three weeks of frustration, a very high estimate, an unwillingness to put anything in writing until I agreed to hire them, I joined Angie's list and found Peak Roofing.  They came out, did a much more thorough survey (crawled over every part of the barn and house roof for close to 90 minutes), and (without being asked mind you) - sent me not only an estimate that was less than 1/2 what J&D presented, but actually included with the estimate a very detailed contract "ready for signature" that provided incredible cost detail.  Peak roofing does more than just roofing, and they handled all of my work with an A rating and very close to what the insurance adjuster estimated it would cost.  Daniel - I found you personally to be very pleasant and your staff very polite and helpful, but if you want my business, I expect timely responses to my emails and calls, written cost breakdowns, and competitive estimates.  I expect these things because your competitors provide them.

    Peak Roofing Contractors Inc
Excellent experience.  On the day of the Barn roof replacement, the crew showed up before 7 am and 6-7 of them worked without stopping until almost 4PM.  I was a little worried that I never saw them take lunch or even a break and asked the foreman if they were at least going to stop for lunch, and he mentioned that I might notice one of them disappear every once in a while while they grab a sandwich or a short break in the truck.  So the worked never stopped.  While they worked, someone was always cleaning (even using a leaf blower along the gutters), and when they finished, they all fanned out to pick up any remaining debris.  The finished roof looks fantastic.  Prior to turning to Angie's list, I had turned to a local company that had been rated #1 by our local newspaper the past four years (they proudly hang a banner in front of their business touting that they are #1 in Warrenton), and I wasted more than a month constantly waiting for them to return my calls and emails, only to receive an estimate via voicemail that was more than double what the insurance adjuster estimated.  The cost was incomprehensible, and when I asked for a written breakdown, I received another voicemail from the owner indicating that putting details such as that in writing took too much time, but would be done within the contract if I agreed to hire them - and that's when I joined Angie's list and found Peak roofing.  Peak's estimate was about 50% below the first company, and Peak sent a very detailed contract that helped me easily understand where the cost was.  Everyone at Peak was very personable and always polite, and the work was excellent.  I would highly recommend peak roofing.

    Tom Hanger Home Improvement
We decided on the type of windows, got an estimate.  The work was done quickly, but professionally with great care for the interior of our home.  They had to move furniture to install windows.  They did so with care and left no mess for us.
With our gable ends, we were constantly having to paint.  We once again used this contractor because of our previous experience with them.  Very pleased with results.

    Tom Hanger Home Improvement
We had been planning this addition for four to five years and knew that the prime contractor was going to require skilled tradesmen to match our expectations.  As part of that team Tom Hanger provided upfront information on the type of materials, assisted in color schemes, gave advice on where we might run into issues and brought years of experience to the project.  Because the project involved four separate buildings, each of them required slightly different planning and layout.  Each of the efforts was given the same level of attention and detail.  The projects included doubling the size of the original home, building anew multi-car garage, re-siding a portion of an old garage as well as completely rebuilding a small barn.  From start to finish on each of the projects Tom Hanger was able to meet all the schedules, tie together the various projects to help create the desired outcome.  We were very satisfied with all aspects of the team's performance from design to clean up.

I used them because they came and gave me an estimate and followed through. They were polite. The came and did a good job. They cleaned up after the work was completed. Everything appears fine now. I would use their service in the future.

    Prince William Home Improvement
The work was done very quickly, which would have been a good thing, except in this case speed also equated to shoddiness; the siding installation was, in my opinion, very poorly executed, exhibited very poor workmanship and pride of work, and overall the job quality was inferior. The windows to the house were caulked shut and the window screens were caulked into position. This caused major problems when we tried to paint the trim on our house. Overall, I cannot in good conscience recommend this company as a home improvement company as my house is in worse shape than before they ''improved'' it. This is solely my personal opinion based on my personal experience with this company.
