    Living in semi-rural Virginia, my home and others on my street are serviced by a long private paved road with ample room for trucks to maneuver and turn around. The first few months were fine, prompt and on time. Whenever they missed I pick up, I either called or emailed customer service and a makeup run was scheduled for the next day. Other than essentially paying double for the same service I had before, I was ok with their service.
    However in November of 2015 they start missing every week and I would have to remind them to come. Each time I reminded them in writing, they admitted dropping the ball. During the Thanksgiving holiday, they forgot to come twice. Only this time they replied with a statement saying they would no longer drive down our private road to our residence to pick up the containers sitting on the street. Rather they wanted me to roll them about 1/3 of a mile to the main road. Being semi-disabled, this is not possible and is,  in fact one of the reasons I ordered trash service in the first place. I explained that other service providers in our community, including USPS, UPS, FEDEX and Comcast all drive large trucks on our private road without a complaint.
    I've asked them to please modify my service in writing with thirty days notice and to please credit me for the dates they have forgotten to pick up my trash. Note that I pay my bill regularly and on time via an automated system through my bank, so I expect American Disposal to live up to their end of the contract and provide services paid for.
    To date, I have not heard back from them.

    Waste Management
    We've had intermittent problems with Waste Management over the years having to do with missed pickups.  But recently they've completely stopped picking up our recycling.  It's been 4 weeks since our last Wednesday recycling pickup and despite assurance from customer service (3 calls!) that it would be picked up, it hasn't been.  We've not had any coordination to date from anyone at Waste Management to answer for these issues aside from the customer service people I spoke to the 3 times I called them.

    Most people probably don't give much thought to their trash removal service, but this company is fantastic.  American Disposal picked up all of my yard waste, which was over 50 bags, in one pickup - not a single twig was left behind at the curb.  I am so impressed with the customer service this company provided that I am definitely keeping them around.

    AAA Recycling & Trash Removal
    We terminated several years of service with AAA due to recent lack of customer service (missed pickups, no response to email or phone complaints) and prices that kept increasing. The agent I spoke to said our account was paid up to 5/31/13, they would pick up trash on that day and also remove the bins, and the account was closed. They did pick up the trash then, and came for the bins several days later.
    Late June we received a notice (dated June 21) that our account was past due in the amount of $33.04. No information given except a reference to invoice dated 5/13/13, which was for future service beginning 6/1 and had no $33 charge. I mailed a return letter asking to have the record corrected.
    August 15 we received a Final Notice that the matter is being referred to collection agency (no other contact). I called and was told that it is a charge for the month of June because they picked up the bins then (altho they said they would get them in May) - or that it's a termination charge, they didn't seem sure. They don't seem to care what previous agents have said - just recite policy.
    Previous experience and this one have convinced me there is no point in talking further with their "customer service". I will pay the bill to avoid further hassle but want this on the record for other potential customers.

    AAA Recycling & Trash Removal
    The service went fine for awhile. Then every once in awhile they would pick up the recycling but not the trash. I would have to call the company to ask why and then they said they would send someone out as soon as possible. This worked for the first couple times they forgot to pick our trash. Then we went on vacation and when we came back they didn't pick up the trash or recycling on the scheduled days. So we had to call each time. This got annoying after awhile, calling when we wanted our trashed picked up. I will give credit to the customer service representatives at the company. Each time I called they were very professional and listened to what I had to say. I just wish their actual service was as good as their customer service.
    I eventually found another trash company. One that was a family owned company, and a little cheaper in price. I would have stayed with AAA however I simply got tired of calling every week when they didn't pick up my trash. Once or twice is fine but every time was getting a little annoying.

    They do very well but every few months we get another increase. They just gave us a new bin for recyclables. If anything gets out, they stop and pick it up, they don't let it blow in the wind. They actually collect more often, even during the holidays. The guys are nice and polite. Their trucks are clean. They are still cheaper than the competitor.

    I found Junk King through Angie's List, visited their website, and scheduled an appointment for an estimate online for the timeframe I asked for. They called before showing up, and I showed them that there was a lot of stuff under my deck left by the previous owner, and that my bad back wouldn't let me get under there to remove it, much less see what it is. They walked me through their pricing (it's standard, so there are no surprises), and they were prepared to take it right away. The price was reasonable, the staff were friendly, and they hauled everything but the hazmat. On the whole, it's exactly what I could have asked for. Thank you, Junk King!

    AAA Recycling & Trash Removal
    Their customer service is just awful! I've had to call them multiple times to get my recycle picked up, to which they would squarely try to place blame on me by saying things like, "Well did you have it out first thing in the morning, it wouldn't have been missed if you did." Yes.. I do.. every evening before trash pick up I put out my trash and recycle. Then when they finally send someone to get my stuff they seem annoyed that they have to dump my trash and recycle in the back of their pick up truck.

     The cans are always half hazardly thrown about. 

    But here's where the story gets interesting, it's no doubt that there are many competitors out there that are all itching for my dollar. Well The first time one came knocking at the door I called AAA and they were more than happy to knock down my rate and "lock it" for a year.
     Well.. fast forward 6 months and my bill was scheduled to go up by $4.. So much for locking it in.. But whatever the price was still ok and it wasn't worth the "reconditioning fee" to switch services. 
    So fast forward another month or two, another competitor knocks at my door and gives me their pamphlet. it's 2 bucks cheaper a month, I call again, and this time AAA "Can't do anything about it", and "I'm more than welcome to go, but the can reconditioning fee will cost more than I'd save." That's a pretty awesome way to bully your customers.. So I stick around (because why foolishly waste money). 
    Well.. Fast forward to today.. I got a flier in the mail from a competitor for a vastly lower rate (About a week ago).. On top of that on the same day I got a message from AAA saying my cost was going up $4!  Now we're talking a $14 a month difference in cost, so I call AAA again today to see what can be done. 
    First.. I don't sound like a woman, but get called ma'am the entire time (Even after correcting them). 
    Second telling them about the deal they flat out say, "we can lock you in for a year at $61" That's $21 a month, that does not even come close to the $10.99 of the competitor.. What a deal! When I explain again the competitor is offering $10.99 and and 21 bucks a month is unacceptable, they say, "well there's nothing we can do for you." 

    So you know what AAA.. I'm done with you.. We'll finish out this month we paid for and we'll kick you to the curb like the waste you are. I see why AAA is a trash company.. It's not that they pick up and deal with trash.. It's the fact that the company itself is trash.

    CHARLIE & SON TRASH & RECYCLING SERVICE INC
    We had this service for several years, but I just cancelled due to their inability to perform basic accounting tasks. For the past several months they have stopped service to us periodically, claiming they did not receive payment. Each time I provided them with a copy of the bank check which they had cashed weeks before. They are apparently unable to deal with online bank checks sent to them, since they do not assign account numbers and cannot look up names. They do, however, promptly cash the checks, even though they do not trouble themselves to credit any account for the payment. Their pickup service is adequate, but their administration is terrible.
