AVOID AT ALL COSTS. An absolute nightmare of an experience..and continues to be causing problems. Where do I even begin. I bought a house to put a second story addition on and started working with Darrel. From the beginning I provided him a layout to basically just formalize to submit to county. What I received back was SO FAR from what I provided. (Not sure how someone could be so incompetent when being spoon-fed drawings).. Anyways, I was back and forth constantly, getting one thing fixed and then him forgetting all the other things that still needed to be changed. Then he'd always try to re-assure me with things like window placements that "oh don't worry they don't have to be exact because the framer will do that on-site". Also he tried everything he could to not even come to the actual house. And he would consistently say he'd have it done "in-no time, it's just a couple mouse clicks" but would always fail to be on-time. Finally he came after a month or so because I wanted him to verify the measurements and actually see the physical structure (this is why people pay an Architect, right?!). We finally submitted the plans (despite the windows still being wrong), and got denied because Darrel thought he could get away with not including any of the existing foundation information. After county instructed us to include foundation info, he still tried to not even come out to the house and wanted me to go under the crawl space and give him measurements. (AGAIN, why am I paying this guy?). After foundation info was included, county approved plans and I wanted to never talk to Darrel again.. which I have not. Fast forward a couple months to now when all of the lumber has arrived and my carpenter is out on the job.. I was told after removing the roof and placing the 2nd floor joists down that the architect had the width of the 1st floor 1' short.. which meant that my floor joists above and the roof trusses were not what we expected. luckily I planned to do a 2' cantilever in the back and 1' cantilever in the front so the 1' error on first floor made it still possible but I could only get 1' cantilever on front and back as opposed to gaining a whole other foot. This was as of today, so I really am hoping this was the only thing that is going to be causing a problem, but my God what a terrible "Architect" that should no longer be in the business. *Also, my parents were using him at the same time and they had to fire him before even getting to submit to county. There was an enormous amount of changes that Darrel continued to fail in completing.

    Dulles Kitchen and Bath
We acquired three quotes. Dulles Bath had the best quote for the job we wanted completed. All the staff and construction workers were very professional and prompt in all our dealing. The project manager Sinan was very responsive to all our questions. I would highly recommend this company.

The work quality and customer service was a perfect example of World Class Excellence. The owner himself was present while work was performed and he insured/provided outstanding quality control.

    SGS Builders Inc.
Steve Sanders and his assistant, Enrique, were professional in every sense of the word. Working with Steve was easy because he listened and provided guidance and recommendations - but followed our wishes with respect to all aspects of construction.  He answered questions no matter how elementary and followed up on requests regarding work in progress.
Steve is a master carpenter and therefore not professional in many other areas. The subs he uses for siding, gutters, painting, HVAC, electricity, and carpet installation, all were very professional and did excellent work. Steve coordinated all their work including timing, specs and work in progress and review of finished work.   Since my wife and I are sticklers for detail and quality work, we inspected work in progress and end of day progress. At no time were we disappointed.  A few minor items we noticed were always taken care of the next day - none involved overall quality nor affected schedule or on going activities.
All workers who worked on site, cleaned up every day before they went home for the night.  On the first day of the job, SGS put down plastic runner over the carpet from the front door to the stairs; on the stairs leading up to the second floor and then across the hall and bedroom to the bedroom closet .  It was also run from the garage entry in the kitchen to the hall and back to the front door. This way any dust or dirt work might bring in, was never in touch with the white carpet. The plastic runner conformed to the carpet so it was no hindrance to walking on the carpet.
All in all, the finished job looks great from the outside and the inside. Since Steve was a stickler for details and proper construction, we expect over time to be very happy with the addition which will add value to the house.  Even the county inspectors never had an issue with the work done and approved all work at every step.

    Moment Structural Engineering Group
The whole process was great. Shawn is a professional who listens to hear what your asking him to do. He offers suggestions that could help lower the costs. At ever phase he e-mails you updates to let you know whats going on. He lets you review the whole process so no time is lost. I am very pleased with Shawn and will guide anyone who asks me who I would use to him. Thanks for the great job you did for me.

There were two charges one was $300 and the other was $1,100. It was a total of $1,400. I chose them because of the reviews on Angie’s List. The price is probably the going price.
