Landscaping reviews in Manakin Sabot

  • Lewis was very prompt, courteous, respectful, and professional from beginning to the end of our project. He's an expert in his field and very meticulous throughout the process. Most important was that he carefully listened to our requirement and offered sound advice and suggestions. Additionally, Lewis places a great emphasis on longevity of the system. This is accomplished by using top quality parts and material and the best techniques and practices that will effectively seal up components for years to come. Further, he is true to his word in regard to his warranty. If there are any glitches, he's true to his word to make it right. He cares deeply about both his reputation and having satisfied customers for years to come. We are very happy with our landscape lighting system! It was absolutely the best decision to hire Lewis! • I have been with them for about five years. I was not here when they did the service, but it probably took them half a day. One, sometimes two people come to do the service. They left the area very clean when they left.

  • This is an addendum to a previous good review. Mr Webb did an average to good job maintaining several acres of land. The problem came with invoicing. Mr Webb likes to text invoices. Mr. Webb texted me an invoice while I was out of town and demanded immediate payment. After mailing the check, I advised him that due to the holiday season mail volume and also the location from which it was being mailed, the check could take longer to arrive. Long story short, Mr Webb demanded payment and told me he was going to place a mechanics lien on my house. All of this drama was taking place within 3 weeks of the invoice. He did receive the mailed check and it cleared my account. I was a repeat customer who had payed him thousands of dollars in the past in a timely manner. He was always more expensive but did a nice job. I will not use him again nor recommend him as there are other companies who recognize the value of repeat customers. Also no one is good enough to risk a lien being placed on your property on a whim.

  • White Oak with Liston Webb is an excellent company. Liston is very professional and thorough.Everything is always well done and Liston makes great suggestions for future improvement.  If there is an issue it will be resolved efficiently and professionally. To me that is a sign of a great company.  Will continue to use them for all tree and landscaping needs. Highly recommended.

  • Project went according to plan.  AC showed up with his crew (he's in attendance at all his jobs) and got everything cleaned out the first day and got the mulch and pine straw down the second day and left the property cleaned up.  Property looks great.

  • Mr. Webb was excellent to work with. Very responsible and thorough. He did a really good job with so many leaves. He made sure I was happy with the job before he left. He has the capability to handle many  heavy duty landscaping needs. I will certainly use White Oak again soon.

  • Spoke to Mr. Ramos about coming out to give an estimate for mulching and edging.  His company had did very good work for me several years ago. I had tried to contact him last year and got the same response as this year, an initial contact on the phone, but he never showed and never followed up.  I will not be contacting him again.

  • Erik has done extensive work in my yard. His vision and implementation are excellent. He can do drainage, pest control, pruning, transplanting, along with planning and drawings. He laid stepping stones and built and repaired stone walls and a brick walkway. He put in sod at my daughters, planted trees for a privacy border, designed a gorgeous stone wall that compliments a patio he laid last summer. He is willing to do the work in phases. He is very reasonable with his pricing and gives detailed estimates and billings. He communicates and is dependable.  His most recent projects were meticulously done and he cleaned up and hauled all the cuttings and deadfall. He and his worker are hardworking, honest, and treat the property as if it belonged to them. I am so grateful we have someone who is so good at what he does!

  • Eric is very thorough. He has done stonework and laid slate pavers. He laid a gorgeous patio at my daughter's home and corrected a drainage issue. He always checks to make sure everything is in order from past projects while working on the new. He gives itemized estimates and is willing to do them in phases. He never pushes projects...just gives his honest opinion and advises what he feels makes the most sense and is the most practical. He has a wonderful gift for landscaping and is very reasonable. He is hard working and honest. He comes when he says and works hard until it is done! He limbed up old overgrown azaleas and took out scrub hollies. He trims trees and is very capable of taking down larger ones. He mulches and is very careful around delicate plantings. He also does the insect control and fertilizing on my yard..both grass and plantings as well as my daughter's. He has done fencing and gates too. He cleans up any debris and hauls away dead wood.  I have referred him to family and friends!

  • The initial consult with Erik went well.  He gave us the impression that he was an expert landscaper with many creative ideas.  However, overall we had a very poor experience with him and although we had planned to use him for a more extensive project in the spring, we have changed our minds, and have had to advise our neighbors not to use him.  Our reasons are:
    1)  Very poor & unprofessional communications:  Erik told me he doesn't work through phone or email and that all communication needed to be through texts.  He required that our extensive landscape plan be submitted through text message, an entirely ridiculous arrangement, but I managed to do it, hacking one finger at a time.  It became clear early on that while he prefers texting, he communicates poorly through texts--short, confusing responses that require several clarifications--and he tracks responses poorly.  I had to repeat (retype) things several times because he simply wouldn't track the details (and because I didn't want to be so rude as to say "Scroll up and read what I've already texted!").  Additionally, he wouldn't give me a date in his calendar until I gave him a deposit, which I couldn't do until he gave me a bid, which he wouldn't do until I went to the nursery to tag the trees I wanted.  I had the trees tagged very early on and texted Erik as such, but  since he doesn't track text messages very well, I had to keep prompting him to give me a price so we could schedule (the urgency was due to planting Crape Myrtles in the fall).  Despite several reminders over text that the trees were tagged and ready for him to price, Erik would simply respond, "Have you had the trees tagged yet?"  To be honest, the only reason I went with Erik at this point is because I was trying to save our neighbor some money.
    2)  No Show:  On the morning Erik was to begin our project, I got a text (not even the courtesy of a phone call!!) 30 minutes before I was expecting him that he had to reschedule for "sometime" the following week.  Then he proceeded to lie about the reason.  He told me it was because the lines weren't marked in time (that they'd be marked later in the morning), but when I confronted him with the fact this made no sense as a reason for cancellation--that there was a ton of work to do before any digging began--I found out that the real reason was that Erik never scheduled the delivery from the nursery, and they were booked a week out.  Unfortunately, I had to discover this by calling the delivery manager at the nursery, who told me she never heard from Erik until 30 minutes prior.  Erik persisted with the blame of the line-markers until I told him that I called the nursery and knew the real reason, and then he admitted it.  No apology, nothing!  And it wasn't inconsequential.  I had cleared three days of clients (lost income) for the dates Erik scheduled so that I could be there, and my neighbor cleared her schedule as well.  But in addition to that, it created even more stress and worry about planting the Crapes so late in the year--which we had gotten to because he wouldn't track his texts and get me in his calendar earlier as requested.
    3) Incomplete work:  At the end of the project, my neighbor pointed out to Erik that one of the trees he planted wasn't straight.  He wouldn't admit that they planted it crooked, but instead said that the wind (there was little wind that day) must have made the tree lean within the past two hours.  The tree wasn't loose, and it was obvious they put it in the ground wrong, so it was an eye-roll comment.  But whatever...he offered to remedy it by staking the tree, but said he couldn't do it then because he had to go, and that he'd come back in a couple of days to fix it. Unfortunately, I already paid him and had to accept that he wouldn't do it while he was there.  It took over 5 WEEKS for him to come back and stake it, and only after several texts from me, some select words from my husband, and phone calls and texts from my neighbor.  His refusal to keep his commitment created a good amount of worry by our elderly neighbor during two high wind storms.
    4)  Poor recommendations:  While we initially were impressed with Erik's design ideas and recommendations, we later discovered that they were poor ones; in fact, we didn't go with a single recommendation.  On our very small property, Erik recommended that we plant four Thundercloud Cherry trees, which according to him, is his top recommended tree.  We liked the idea of reddish foliage to offset the typical green, but as we checked with the nurseries, extension office, and other experts, the advice was all the same:  don't plant them!  The trees are prone to almost every tree disease out there, and is why all the ones we looked at driving around town looked so awful.  Erik's solution is to contract with him to spray the trees four times a year, but as all the horticultural specialists we spoke to said, why would you plant material that requires that, especially with so many better options?
The only reason we went with Erik was to save some money, but Erik offers a reduced price in lieu of a warranty on the plant material.  Most other landscapers offer a one-year warranty on the material.  We reasoned that if the trees are coming from a reputable source and the landscaper is good, you don't need to pay extra for the warranty.  I still think this is true, but the key factor is a landscaper who is conscientious and knows what they're doing.  Having been through the process with Erik, I no longer have that confidence in him.   I just in good conscience couldn't possibly recommend him.

UPDATE:  I've read Erik's response here, and all I can say is that I'm stunned.   This is simply not true, and not only that these are blatant ad hominem attacks without foundation.  I don't even know three people at the nursery.  I've worked with one person very closely with whom I have a very positive rapport--he's given me additional discounts because he says he enjoys working with me, and I've sent a thank you note to the owner telling him how terrific it is working with this person.  Erik completely fabricated this.  With regard to shorting him on the bill:  What?!  All I can say is that Erik's accounting is a disaster and I walked through the details of my understanding with him when writing the final check which he said was correct.  If the amount given to him at the settling was not correct, this is the first I've heard.  I would suggest to Erik that he work up clearly articulated, professional invoicing and send it via email like everyone else in this business.  We have all joined Angie's List to get honest reviews and to warn each other about the seriously bad contractors--Erik is one that deserves warning about, and I stand by the accuracy of my review.
