    Beautiful Home Services
Everything went very well. We had to interrupt the job half way through due both my and my wife's hospitalization and recovery at home. Beautiful Homes were very accommodating of the delays we needed. To give an example of their attitude I would approach the on site supervisor and say " Sorry but I realized I gave you bad instructions on this. I now want it changed." His response with a smile is " No problem we will take care of it." The work crew we had is great. The work crew became friends that we looked forward to seeing them every day.

    Lauten Design & Construction
The project was to extend the main gable of our 26'-wide ranch house by 14'. The new space would bring the existing exterior chimney inside, and contain a completely new kitchen. The main floor and basement were extended together, and the basement was roughed-in to move an existing bathroom into a new small living space. The laundry room in the basement was also rebuilt to be finished and more spacious on it's existing footprint. This was our first big project and after a long search, we decided to engage Lauten.
The project was a complete success, our vision of the addition was realized 100%. Let me say right up front we were completely satisfied with Lauten and are currently engaging them  again on a new project to enlarge the master bedroom and emlarge and build a complete new master bath.
Let me talk realistically about what "complete success" means to us: Drew's Lauten crew, led by Mike V. including Jake and superb subs, was professional and extremely effective. On time every day, steady, often rapid progress, top quality workmanship and attention to even trivial details. Everyone involved, both Lauten crew and subs,  seemed to understand and care about our vision and its successful realization. In most aspects of the job we got down to detail in specifying materials and methods, our requirements were eagerly met in all cases. I won't say the project was completely problem-free, some of our requirements were unusual and difficult. But the glitches that did arise were dealt with creatively and in all cases successfully. In a minority of cases we saw the problems as Lauten responsibility, Drew stepped up and made equitable and prompt allowances to keep the project on schedule and ensuring that all our requirements were met 100%. On a job of this size, complexity and scope, with old, existing structure, and unusual structural requirements, to expect no mistakes is unrealistic. What we did expect and receive, was expert, skilled workmanship, agressive, prompt project execution and honest willingness to deal in 100% good faith and wind up with a completely successful project. In the end, we got that and more!

    Russell M Smith Construction Inc
It went great, all things considered.  The wood rot was much more extensive than we initially knew.  However Russ was able to secure the structure and provide the finish work we needed.  Additionally, he was able to save us approx. $5,000 by saving the existing windows.

Russ has always been punctual and very professional.  I called him to perform a similar service as listed above.  Even over the holidays he got back to me usually on the same day.  We recommend his services and trust that when he does a job, the job is done right.

    JW Home Improvement
The project went very smoothly.  Estimator arrived on time and provided a clear understanding of what needed to be done plus a list of potential supplies needed and likely labor costs.  No aggressive "upselling" either (I've experienced this problem with some other companies)
On the day of the actual work, the installer (Chris) arrived promptly and worked with courtesy and efficiency.  Project was actually done in less time than expected.  The new unit looks good and works well.  I'm very pleased with the overall result and would recommend JW to others.

    Walker and Clarke Builders Inc
I contacted Donnie Walker via phone call to schedule an estimate. Rather than take time to visit for an in person estimate, Donnie suggested that I take pictures of the damage due to the leak and he could likely determine the cost of the repair based on the pictures. I took a couple of pictures with my cell phone and texted them to Donnie. He called and described 3 possible scenarios and explained the most likely source of the leak along with an estimated cost of the repairs. He was able to schedule my repair in less than a week, which was greatly appreciated. About 4 days before his arrival, I texted him and said I had found a second window that needed repair. He said he would take a look when he arrived.
On the day of the repair, his crew showed up promptly at 8:30AM to start work. They immediately went to work on the initial repair and I invited Donnie inside to take a look at the second window. Since he was already setup, he offered to fix the second window the same day and said he could give me a discount for doing both in one day. Later, he gave yet another discount when he found out I had used Angie's List to find his business.
The repairs were very high quality and exactly as he described. The actual cost ended up being substantially less due to his honesty about his rates and willingness to save me money by fixing both windows on the same day despite the fact that I originally only told him about a single window. The repairs were completed by 1:30PM, which was faster than  I expected. Very efficient.
I'd definitely use Walker and Clarke Builders again in the future. Honest, hard working, and high quality. Thanks very much!

    JW Home Improvement

it was a while ago, I just remember that they did everything perfect except for one thing....tried to get them to seal a door, this was a bit beyond their scope in such a short time

I strongly recommend get them for simple around the house carpentry type fixes or very small carpentry type projects

    Russell M Smith Construction Inc
Russ was able to offer several courses of action based on price and longevity of the finished project.  He fully explained the advantages and disadvantages of all the options.  Like many homes, ours has certain "features" (READ anomalies due to poor construction decisions when the home was built) that posed challenges to fixing the issues at hand.  Overall Russ was able to save the windows and thus save us over $5,000.

We found Russ on Angie's list several years ago.  He came with a very high rating so we decided to give him a try.  Some key points I would like to highlight are:
    • Russ is very responsive.  He returns phone call and email promptly
    • Russ is very upfront about pricing.
    • He is a stickler  for quality.
    • He takes the time to explain everything thoroughly.
    • He is very professional and courteous.
    • We plan on using his services for all home repair in the future.

In the end, you get what you pay for.  We are very happy with Russ Smith.

    Stars Construction

The work went very well overall.  The contractor was punctual and professional and made sure we were satisfied with construction as it proceeded.  The only snag was that we initially didn't care for how the contractor designed the bedroom closet door opening but they were quick to work with us to modify it to our liking.  We really enjoyed working with them (Stephen and Jose) and think they offer good value for the price.

    McKee Construction Company
Dealing with Chris (owner of McKee Construction) was a pleasure. Chris took the time to listen to what we wanted up front and made sure he understood our goals and budgetary considerations before taking on the project.
The quality of Chris's work was good. We are very pleased with the way the house turned out. The trim work is nicely done (it's not perfect, but we weren't paying for high end, custom carpentry work) - far nicer than I would have expected, given how much we had to spend on the project. The floors came out beautifully - Chris's floor finisher is a miracle worker. We were very happy with the electrician's work and recommendations - he made some excellent recommendations regarding light fixture and switch placement while we were in the planning stages. I am very much a detail person, and I tend to be a bit of a perfectionist. Overall, I have very little negative to say about the work that Chris did for us - given the amount of work that we had done, I think that says a lot about quality of Chris's work.
Throughout the project, Chris was always responsive when I contacted him with questions or concerns. When I wasn't happy with something, he would have his crew come out a fix the problem quickly, and to my satisfaction.
The initial project did take longer than we initially thought - this was in part due to a delay in getting a well drilled (not Chris's fault in any way), but was also due to other projects that kept Chris's crew tied up. Having watched my parents build their house, and after talking to other friends who have built their own houses, I understand that this is not out of the norm when doing custom construction. The repair work was completed very quickly, for which we are very grateful.
We also have to give Chris a lot of credit for starting on the repair work immediately when the tree fell on the house. In the dead of winter, just prior to a major snow storm coming in, his crew got the tree removed and made temporary repairs to the roof within 3 days to prevent further damage from being done to the house. We received 20 inches of snow the day after they got the roof covered by the tarp. His quick response kept the snow out of the house and saved us thousands of dollars in additional damages. Chris also dealt directly with our insurance company to get accurate estimates for the repairs completed quickly - it was nice to have one less thing to deal with in the middle of a small crisis.
Throughout the entire process, Chris stayed on budget with his initial estimates. When we made changes to the initial proposal that impacted our final cost, Chris gave us an updated estimate and asked for our approval to proceed before doing anything that wasn't part of the original plan. We greatly appreciated this. Chris's pricing was very transparent - we always knew how much materials were, how much labor was, and how much the markup was. We feel very fortunate to have found such an honest, considerate contractor to help us build our dream home (twice!). I highly recommend McKee Construction.

Apparently my roof had not been fully repaired by the roof repairman after Hurricane Sandy so after a big snow storm in November, we started getting a leak in the roof above our master bathroom causing water damage and bowing to the drywall in the ceiling in the master bathroom.  They repaired the ceiling drywall affected by this leak.  The area that was affected by Hurricane Sandy water leak had previously been repaired but had always had a bulge to it due to not being properly sanded so they sanded that down without charging me any extra.  They painted over the entire area to match the existing paint.  They also mudded over some existing small settlement cracks in wall joints, again without charging me extra.  While I had to provide the paint, that was to ensure that the proper paint was provided.  I would definitely recommend them to anyone who asked.  The biggest bonus of all was that not only are they professionals but they work and live in the local area and are willing to work out in the Purcellville, Lovettsville area within a couple of days AND they charge you a reasonable price to do it.
