    Cyrus Construction LP
I was looking for the cheapest contractor I could find to finish my basement, which was approximately 1100 sq. ft. of concrete. I spoke with 4 contractors. Of course every single contractor told me different things. I was told I needed to waterproof my entire basement before they could do anything, I needed an additional electrical panel, I needed an additional sump pump and I couldnt put my wet bar where I wanted it. This was my first experience dealing with contractors in regards to finishing a basement. Needless to say I was very frustrated because no one would give me a quote, they all kept telling me everything I needed to do that didnt include the finishing of my basement. I had no idea what I was doing, but I did know what I wanted the end result to be. The PM, Russell Blake, was the person that came and looked at my basement to give me an estimate. He was on time and very polite. As he took measurements of my basement, he did provide me advice when I was telling him how I wanted my basement to look. I appreciated his opinion, especially since this was my first time. He didnt badger me or tell me I couldnt do anything. He also didnt tell me about all these other things that I was supposed to do first before I could even start on my basement. He simply showed me pictures of previous jobs and made suggestions in areas that I was unsure about. I did do research and those items that I was told HAD TO BE DONE, were not items that were mandatory in order to accomplish what I wanted. I went back and forth with the quote between Cyrus Construction and another contractor. Russell was prompt with his responses. Which I appreciate, I do not like to wait more than 24 hours for a business to provide me with information. They were not the cheapest but they werent the most expensive. The quote was still within my budget. Cyrus Construction did come highly recommended when I did my research and read the reviews. I did see some reviews that werent 5 stars, but I looked at the time of the project, how many negative reviews there were total and how many reviews overall. My concern was the overall rating. I believe you can make some of the people happy some of the time, but not all of the people happy all the time. I also chose Cyrus Construction because they did not BS me!! Russell was very easy to work with. I changed my mind a few times, but there was never an issue with my requests. Someone was always home at my house, so the workers did their best to stay out of our way and were always very polite. It took about 6 to 8 weeks for my basement to be complete. I added a small room with an egress window, a half bathroom and wet bar to my basement. All areas were fully finished except the gym area, which I had them close off and just add an entry door. I am very picky and a little bit OCD. I went over my basement with a fine tooth comb and provided Russell with my list, which were all cosmetic. Russell made sure that all items were met to my satisfaction before I made my final payment, even down to the smallest detail. I am very happy with the end result of my basement I attached some before and after pictures. I am still in the process of decorating, so disregard the grandbaby and toys!!

    The Tile Artisan
We hired Paul Bender, owner of The Tile Artisan, to remodel our master bathroom and were very happy that we did. His price was competitive and his entire team was professional, courteous and hardworking. We were very pleased with the work done and with the professionalism and communication that occurred throughout the process. Paul frequently made suggestions which improved the final outcome. We are thrilled with the finished bathroom and would not hesitate to recommend the Tile Artisan!

    Williams Painting And Remodeling
We began our search for someone to repair the damage a leaky toilet caused in one of our bathrooms and garage. We were initially assigned Paul Davis Restoration & Remodeling, Manassas Virginia through our insurance company. It became clear that they were not interested in our customer satisfaction. They only wanted to collect the check from our insurance company. I came to Angie's List to look for a small business that was interested in doing the work. We contacted three companies and two stated they did not to repairs, they only did full remodeling jobs. Williams came to our home, gave us an estimate, and began their work within a week. They completed the same scope of work that Paul Davis was going to do, but the distinct difference was, we got exactly what we wanted. Paul Davis basically gave us a choice of paint color and nothing else. Williams installed the tile my wife purchased and advised her on ways to improve on what she asked for. My wife is completely satisfied with the work and It saved us $1,000 over Paul Davis. If you are looking for a true customer service experience, contact Williams Painting and Remodeling.

    DGL Construction & Renovation
We could not be more impressed with the work completed and the professionalism shown. The entire staff from the owner, work crew and office were responsive and communicated continually regarding all the work and what to expect with the timeline. We were told they would be sure to have everything done exactly to our satisfaction before we paid the last payment. We have recommended them to everyone we know that might want work done and are planning on rehiring them in the fall for a master bathroom renovation for our sons house.

    Home Design Inc
Everyone we interacted with at Home Design, Inc. was professional, helpful, accommodating, and punctual. We hired Home Design for a Kitchen Remodeling project and we are extremely pleased with the final product. Prior to beginning the project, John, met with us to go over the contract and the materials needed. John offered amazing discounts on many aspects of the project. Once the remodeling began, the workers arrived on time, made minimal mess and completed the job in one week. We were impressed with the overall efficiency of the company, and how the project was completed in a timely manner. Our new kitchen is beautiful, as they did a superb job. This is our first time working with Home Design, Inc. but we are planning to hire them again immediately for another home project, as we need more remodeling done. We highly recommend this company!

    Virginia Kitchen & Bath
GREAT work!!! Leon and Bo were excellent for sales, pricing and design. Leon came out for the initial sales call and had the best design idea (by far) of all four of the companies that we interviewed for this project. Interestingly enough, Leons experience and expertise is in construction and not design. He was the best listener of all the sales people/designers that we saw and gave us exactly what we wanted by going outside the box and suggesting some things that we hadnt even considered. Bo was great with helping us pick out the tile, floor, fixtures, cabinets, paint, grout, etc. She was able to show us some really cool ideas in their showroom. She helped us with the vision of how everything would look in our home so there were no surprises when everything was installed. Matt was our Project Manager and did an EXCELLENT job!!! These kinds of projects go well or not based on the skill and effort of the project manager. With a project of this size, you always run into problems and the project managers skills will determine if its just a hiccup or months and months of aggravation and frustration. Our small problems were handled perfectly because of Matts quick and correct responses to them. Weve never had a project manager as good as Matt on any home improvement job!!! And even better, we always budget 10% for unknowns and changes. With VKBs good planning by Leon and Bo, and excellent project management by Matt, we did not go over budget and got some even better furniture than we were hoping in our new bedroom. Thank you, Virginia Kitchen and Bath. Youll be the ones we call for other our other bathroom and kitchen remodeling jobs when weve saved up some more cash :)

    GSM Remodeling LLC.
Overall the project went better than expected. I was informed of all the steps that would need to be taken, as well provided a clear Idea of the end product from his pictures of prior projects. To my suprise the dust was kept in a minimum where I didnt notice it in the rest of the house. As for the price they used quality material, well worth what I paid for. Definitely would recommend to anyone needing a new and improved bathroom.

    DGL Construction & Renovation
This was not a small project, nor was it an easy project. After getting 6 estimates, we hired DGL Construction because their estimate was very competitive and we liked being able to pick out all our own fixtures. Additionally, Diego, the owner, was very responsive to my numerous questions. After having several conversations with Diego and Lorena, I got a very good feeling about the company. All in all, the project went very well. Diego was extremely reliable, trustworthy, and professional throughout the project. There were a few bumps, which I think is to be expected for a project of this size, which took approximately a month to complete and was completed on time. I was pleased that the final cost came in at about 10-15% more than the estimate, which I thought was really fair. We had requested several upgrades during the process, so there was added cost for those. Diego also told us up front that he would have to charge us for any major surprises encountered during the process, but he really tried very hard to keep that to a minimum. I did not feel like he was trying to gouge us with upcharges at all. Also, unlike some larger companies, he was very flexible with changes. Note that the total cost of approximately $20,000 included labor and building materials (drywall, most paint, electrical materials, grout, heated floors, etc.) but not the major materials (toilet, sink, vanity, tile, etc.). I would suggest it would help to have a list of what is considered building materials as sometimes it was a little confusing and the guidance wasn't always clear. It was nothing major, and 99% of the time "building materials" is self-explanatory, but a list might help customers for budgeting purposes. Diego has contacts for vanities, countertops, etc., and was able to get us great deals. But there was no pressure to use them at all. He also recommended shopping at Floor & Decor, which is a great store. I bought most things online -- had I had to go through a contractor's showroom, I think the price would have overall been 1.5 times what we ended up spending (about $30,000 total including all materials and labor). Diego picked up any heavy materials that were in local stores like Home Depot or Floor & Decor. Diego came to the house at least once a day to check the progress. There were about 6-8 different professionals who worked on the space depending on the job. There were plumbers, electricians, a tile installer, and demo/drywall/trim/painting people, as well as a foreman. They were all very nice and professional, and we totally trusted them in our house while we were at work. They arrived on time every day, six days a week. They would generally work a full day and sometimes well into the evening. I would definitely recommend communicating with Diego in advance if there are times they shouldn't be there at night due to having people over, etc. Otherwise, they do sometimes like to keep working to keep the job moving. They were as quiet as possible (I was often working at home, and they did not bother me at all) and cleaned up and vacuumed daily. They kept their tools in our garage -- I think it helped to have a dedicated place for them to keep things out of the way. We have a baby who is sleeping in our bedroom, so we did not want a lot of dust, which I realize is inevitable. They put plastic sheeting up to prevent dust from getting into our bedroom to the greatest extent possible and also put down drop cloths going up the stairs. Was there dust? Yes, but this was a construction zone. Considering the extent of the work done, I think they did a great job keeping things clean. The first few days of the project were spent gutting the existing space. I was surprised at how quiet and methodological Christian and Leo were at this! There was basically no noise and very little mess. They cut everything (lots of drywall and tile that had been on the walls, floor, shower, etc.) into little bits and carried it out in bags. It was NOT the loud, messy show you see on HGTV. Once they got the space prepped, they started work on reframing, roughing in the plumbing, and the electrical. The drywall and painting jobs were excellent. The workmanship is fantastic. Everything else was of great quality, too. The electrical works great and wasn't without bumps in the road due to our nearly overloaded electrical panel (not their fault). Diego was concerned that adding the heated floors might cause issues, so the electrician was creative in addressing this. Likewise, I had wanted a vanity with a center tower. However, unbeknownst to me, it was too tall for the room when adding for the height of the countertop. Diego was creative and suggested sawing off unneeded space from the bottom of the base vanity. No one would ever notice! There were a few hiccups like this, and he always figured out every problem. I would always be very alarmed when he told me about the problem -- maybe he should start with the solution first, as there were several times I panicked and then realized he had everything under control. Any time I pointed out something that didn't seem quite right in terms of quality, he was quick to acknowledge it and fix it. For example, there were a few places I asked to have retiled where the tile didn't match up and where a broken tile was installed, the vanity cabinets were initially installed backwards, etc. He fixed all these the next day. The tile installed was the sweetest person but perhaps the quality was not quite as good as some of the other work. There is definite pride in workmanship. In terms of communication, since it was a large project, my only suggestion would be to have an in-person meeting to go over everything before the project starts, and to have a rough project checklist. We definitely spoke by phone extensively and I texted Lorena daily (and she responds very quickly) -- Diego and everyone at DGL is very accommodating and giving of their time. But I think it would have helped to have been able to discuss all the little details in advance. For example, once we came home and the light in the bathroom wasn't centered in the ceiling. Come to find out that was not possible, but it would have been good to know that in advance. Lastly, we had them do some additional work -- they replaced our hot water heater and copper piping in the basement. Again, Diego did not try to upsell us and did not make a profit off the cost of the water heater -- he just charges the price he pays. When carrying out the old water heater, they knocked a picture off the wall. Honestly, I didn't even notice. But, Diego took the picture to a professional framer and had it professional reframed. This is the type of person he is and the type of business he runs. He prides himself on the quality of his work and is very honest. I hope to have the pleasure of working with Diego, Lorena, and everyone at DGL in the future.

We signed the contract and then discovered through friends and further research that we were paying an astronomical amount more. The sales person was so friendly during the sale, but not as much after we cancelled. :(
