    Cyrus Construction LP
I was looking for the cheapest contractor I could find to finish my basement, which was approximately 1100 sq. ft. of concrete. I spoke with 4 contractors. Of course every single contractor told me different things. I was told I needed to waterproof my entire basement before they could do anything, I needed an additional electrical panel, I needed an additional sump pump and I couldnt put my wet bar where I wanted it. This was my first experience dealing with contractors in regards to finishing a basement. Needless to say I was very frustrated because no one would give me a quote, they all kept telling me everything I needed to do that didnt include the finishing of my basement. I had no idea what I was doing, but I did know what I wanted the end result to be. The PM, Russell Blake, was the person that came and looked at my basement to give me an estimate. He was on time and very polite. As he took measurements of my basement, he did provide me advice when I was telling him how I wanted my basement to look. I appreciated his opinion, especially since this was my first time. He didnt badger me or tell me I couldnt do anything. He also didnt tell me about all these other things that I was supposed to do first before I could even start on my basement. He simply showed me pictures of previous jobs and made suggestions in areas that I was unsure about. I did do research and those items that I was told HAD TO BE DONE, were not items that were mandatory in order to accomplish what I wanted. I went back and forth with the quote between Cyrus Construction and another contractor. Russell was prompt with his responses. Which I appreciate, I do not like to wait more than 24 hours for a business to provide me with information. They were not the cheapest but they werent the most expensive. The quote was still within my budget. Cyrus Construction did come highly recommended when I did my research and read the reviews. I did see some reviews that werent 5 stars, but I looked at the time of the project, how many negative reviews there were total and how many reviews overall. My concern was the overall rating. I believe you can make some of the people happy some of the time, but not all of the people happy all the time. I also chose Cyrus Construction because they did not BS me!! Russell was very easy to work with. I changed my mind a few times, but there was never an issue with my requests. Someone was always home at my house, so the workers did their best to stay out of our way and were always very polite. It took about 6 to 8 weeks for my basement to be complete. I added a small room with an egress window, a half bathroom and wet bar to my basement. All areas were fully finished except the gym area, which I had them close off and just add an entry door. I am very picky and a little bit OCD. I went over my basement with a fine tooth comb and provided Russell with my list, which were all cosmetic. Russell made sure that all items were met to my satisfaction before I made my final payment, even down to the smallest detail. I am very happy with the end result of my basement I attached some before and after pictures. I am still in the process of decorating, so disregard the grandbaby and toys!!

Deska Foundation Repair and Basement Waterproofing
John the engineer was very professional and knowledgeable. He performed some tests for moisture and settlement and found that my foundation was settling at one corner and there was also a water issue through a crack. He provided a detailed engineering report along with a proposal for repairing the crack and the settlement issue. We ended up using them to epoxy inject the crack and underpin the corner of the foundation. This was back in March and we haven't had any problems since. They always kept me in the loop and their price was almost half of what I had another contractor offer to do the job for. I am so glad I reached out to Deska!

    Basement Detective
I had a pretty serious water leak in my walkout basement, and the folks who came to do the water mitigation (tear out, mold control, dehumidifiers) couldn't figure out where the water was coming from. So, while they were working, I called Basement Detective. They told me that a technician would be there the same day at 4pm. At *exactly* 4pm, Chris knocked on my door. He inspected the area carefully, took pictures and video, and gave me a set of possible scenarios that fit the damage that he could see, and made several recommendations for what I should look for to make a final diagnosis. He was friendly, professional, and spoke clearly without using jargon. He drew pictures for me so that I could understand what the possible problems might be. He was patient and really knew his line of work. Best of all, there was no hard sell for work that did not need to be done, and I couldn't be more grateful for that. I was almost sorry that I didn't need to hire Basement Detective!

    Father and Son Home
They created a fake estimate, $100k lower than the competition. They knew about city permitting and structural issues which were not brought to my attention. After contracting with these crooks, I met with the city and was told about serious structural issues which needed to be addressed before all other work. These issues increased the price back to $200k, which they had an estimate already prepared if I ever found out. I called them out on it and they walked with my down payment. Guy Kleintop (guy.kleintop@gmail.com) then promised to refund the money. After fighting with him for over a year, I have given up and considered this a learning experience. These crooks should not be on your list of trusted contractors.

Before & After Home Improvement Co
We feel like we hit the contractor jackpot!  Rick is very competitively priced but with superior quality workmanship.  He and his crew finished our basement- built 3 rooms with closets, a bathroom, utility closet, and main living space.  He ran cable and plumbed for a future bar.   I asked him to match all the details of our main floors so it would fit seamlessly in with the rest of the home and not feel like a basement- he hit it out of the park.  He matched our window/door trims and all of the crown molding.  It all looks fantastic!
I also gave him a picture of a bathroom that inspired me and he crafted one that looks amazing- modern tile and finishes are right out of HGTV.
He is very responsive, professional, visits the site constantly to make sure work is on schedule and up to par, and very efficient- it took less than 4 weeks to complete.
You cannot go wrong with Before and After Home Improvement- he will be our go to contractor from here on out.

    Two By Four Construction LLC
Gary Stannard, the owner, has been great to deal with. He promptly returns calls and emails. Pricing is very fair.
I bought a Big Deal for 8 hours of handyman work and provided Gary with a list in advance. This visit was so-so. Two men arrived to work 4 hours, though one was 30 minutes late. They dug out a broken outdoor lamp and lamp post and installed a new one with concrete. They did a good job. The job was more difficult that anticipated.
I also asked them to replace three outdoor light fixtures. Upon removing one of the old fixtures, they discovered that it was improperly attached to the siding and had to go to Home Depot to get replacement electrical boxes. One man ruined one of the siding mounts for the light and cut into the siding, so it could not be reused. I was disappointed that he was not more careful. He purchased some new mounts, but he did not have time to complete the work, so they left me with two missing front lights. I don't fault them for the problems they encountered, but I wish the one man had been more careful in removing the light fixture so as not to ruin the siding and mounting block. Gary provided me with a fair estimate to replace the mounting blocks and install the three lights, and I plan to use 2x4 for this.
They also reinforced the basement stairs, where there were some popped nails, and troubleshot an electrical outlet that wasn't working. While I was a little disappointed they did not get to my entire list, they did a good job. Unfortunately, they left 30 minutes early as none of my other projects could be completed within the allocated time. I wish they had spent this time cleaning the concrete bits from around the lamp post. Had I not had a Big Deal, I probably would have been upset, but I felt $300 was fair for the amount of work they did. Based on this, I hired them again. I liked them and thought this was just a fluke.
On another visit, another man replaced two ceiling fans. He was quiet and efficient. He did a great job.
Gary also sent two men to give an estimate for a bathroom renovation and hardwood floor installation. Both men were professional. Bob, the floor man, is very responsive. The quote for the floor was competitive, and I plan to use them for the flooring project.
I will update this review (and hopefully change everything to an A) when the other work is complete. It's been my fault that it hasn't been completed yet. Gary has been great about staying in contact with me.

    NV KITCHEN & BATH, LLC
We used NV Kitchen and Bath for the first time for two jobs. One was for our unfinished basement, and the other was for our kitchen and bathroom. The whole organization had good communication with us. They always kept us updated and reminded us with upcoming schedulings. Sean gave us great information when he came out to our house and answered all our questions with satisfying answers. He was very efficient and helpful at the same time. His crew were very good. There were two teams for the projects, and they were both very skilled. They kept everything nice and neat, and they kept us up to date on what was going on. I had an excellent experience working with them. They were very professional about the job and I will use them again if we have another job to do.We will gladly recommend them to all our firneds.

    NV KITCHEN & BATH, LLC
My basement was damaged seriously by water last month during the winter storms. I found NV Kitchen and Bath company which is a Remodeling company with excellent reviews online, so instead of other companies I chose this company to repair and renovate my basement as they offered such an awesome deal for a full basement for our single house. Sean Morris was our primary project manager whom took really good care of our needs as he was working very professionally with this project. He always took his time to answer our questions even though he was working in a busy schedule. We thank him a lot for that. His workers were excellent to finish job within the due date and we had no issues at all. I once chose a color for painting wall, but after putting two coats, I found I don't like the color which gave our basement a very dark atmosphere, Sean bought another paint and redid the job without charging any extra on top of our initial agreement. We are in love with our new basement and we absolutely satisfied working with this company.
    Thanks for everything again.

    Armored Basement Waterproofing
Short version: Jay (the owner) found the source of my leaky basement. It's the slow leak from water heater.  Saved me $4000 of unneeded repair from other highly rated Waterproofing company on Angieslist. Gave me good advice and charged me a big zero dollar for the exceptional service. I hope everybody is as honest as Jay and his company. If I do need water proofing service in the future, I will definitely call Jay.
    Long story:
I had water puddle on the basement floor near an interior wall in the utility room (water heater/ hvac). After cleaning it up a few times, the water kept seeping out from the base plate of the interior wall. I thought to myself probably water came from underneath the slab.
I called several highly rated waterproofing companies on Angieslist to come out and take a look. One company quoted me $3,950 to replace my sump pump and the under floor drainage pipes surrounding the problem area. Their visual diagnosis was hydrostatic pressure from underneath the slab and water came from either the cracks or nail holes under the interior wall's base plate.
Jay came in on time on Saturday morning and got down to investigate the problem right away. Like the other reviewer said, Jay brought his tool bag with him, not just a tape measure and a bunch of flyers as some other guys did. At first look, Jay said it could not be hydrostatic pressure issue (water came in from underneath) since the area was so close to the sump pump. He asked if he could drill a hole on the floor to rule it out. And He was right. No water came in from the floor at all. He then proceeded to open up the Furnace/HVAC unit and water heater to check for water sign. He pulled out a bit of insulation from the water heater and squeezed out a good amount of water. It turned out the water heater slowly leaked for a while. He concluded that I would need a plumber not a water proofer. Jay patched the hole and advised me to buy some mold prevention products to spray on the nearby drywall.
You see Jay came in prepared and actually investigated the problem, not just visually inspected/diagnosed like the other guys. He is knowledgeable and an honest person. Too bad not a lot of other companies/people are like him.
Jay will be the one I call for my future water proofing project.

    A A Action Waterproofing Inc
Technician mis-diagnosed my leaky basement problem that almost costed me $3,950 to repair the drain pipes that I did not need. It turned out it was my water heater that leaked.
Full story: I had a leaky basement problem near an interior wall in my utility room. It looked like the water came from the base plate of that interior wall. I called several highly rated Water proofing companies on Angieslist including AA Action WaterProofing. The scheduling and communication was all good. AA technician came out promptly and seemed very knowledgeable about their water proofing process. Showed me pictures of past jobs. He was also very personable.
He visually inspected the problem area and walked around the outside the house. He diagnosed that I had hydrostatic pressure problem from underneath the slab and now water found the way through cracks or nail/screw holes under the base plate of the interior wall. He said that even though I already had a drainage system and sump pump, it might not be even working now because it was a builder's grade and might be clogged somewhere. It sounded very reasonable and agreed with my initial findings. He did nothing to confirm the diagnose however, only visual inspection.
He proceeded to tell me that I would need to replace the the sump pump,  dig out and replace the old drain pipes with new pipes for the area surrounding the problem area. The total cost would be $3,950 and guaranteed to solve my problem. He also advised that if I wanted trouble free for years to come, I should replace the whole system.
The PROBLEM is another water proofing company came out and found out that it was my water heater that slowly leaked into the base plate and basement floor. That technician ruled out the hydrostatic pressure issue by drilling a hole in the problem area and found no water coming up from underneath floor.
Bottom line: Always have multiple people/companies look at your problem. Do not trust the first company you run into even though it's highly rated.
Would AA Action WaterProofing do a great job of water proofing? By the glowing reviews here, I would give them the benefit of doubt and say Yes
Did they diagnose the correct issue I had?
Definitely NO. If I were to go with them, I still then had to shell out for a couple grand for my water heater replacement.
    Beware.
To know which company that correctly diagnosed my problem, check out my profile and recent reviews. By Angieslist's policy I cannot state the other company name in this review.
