    Basement Detective
I had a pretty serious water leak in my walkout basement, and the folks who came to do the water mitigation (tear out, mold control, dehumidifiers) couldn't figure out where the water was coming from. So, while they were working, I called Basement Detective. They told me that a technician would be there the same day at 4pm. At *exactly* 4pm, Chris knocked on my door. He inspected the area carefully, took pictures and video, and gave me a set of possible scenarios that fit the damage that he could see, and made several recommendations for what I should look for to make a final diagnosis. He was friendly, professional, and spoke clearly without using jargon. He drew pictures for me so that I could understand what the possible problems might be. He was patient and really knew his line of work. Best of all, there was no hard sell for work that did not need to be done, and I couldn't be more grateful for that. I was almost sorry that I didn't need to hire Basement Detective!

    A A Action Waterproofing Inc
Technician mis-diagnosed my leaky basement problem that almost costed me $3,950 to repair the drain pipes that I did not need. It turned out it was my water heater that leaked.
Full story: I had a leaky basement problem near an interior wall in my utility room. It looked like the water came from the base plate of that interior wall. I called several highly rated Water proofing companies on Angieslist including AA Action WaterProofing. The scheduling and communication was all good. AA technician came out promptly and seemed very knowledgeable about their water proofing process. Showed me pictures of past jobs. He was also very personable.
He visually inspected the problem area and walked around the outside the house. He diagnosed that I had hydrostatic pressure problem from underneath the slab and now water found the way through cracks or nail/screw holes under the base plate of the interior wall. He said that even though I already had a drainage system and sump pump, it might not be even working now because it was a builder's grade and might be clogged somewhere. It sounded very reasonable and agreed with my initial findings. He did nothing to confirm the diagnose however, only visual inspection.
He proceeded to tell me that I would need to replace the the sump pump,  dig out and replace the old drain pipes with new pipes for the area surrounding the problem area. The total cost would be $3,950 and guaranteed to solve my problem. He also advised that if I wanted trouble free for years to come, I should replace the whole system.
The PROBLEM is another water proofing company came out and found out that it was my water heater that slowly leaked into the base plate and basement floor. That technician ruled out the hydrostatic pressure issue by drilling a hole in the problem area and found no water coming up from underneath floor.
Bottom line: Always have multiple people/companies look at your problem. Do not trust the first company you run into even though it's highly rated.
Would AA Action WaterProofing do a great job of water proofing? By the glowing reviews here, I would give them the benefit of doubt and say Yes
Did they diagnose the correct issue I had?
Definitely NO. If I were to go with them, I still then had to shell out for a couple grand for my water heater replacement.
    Beware.
To know which company that correctly diagnosed my problem, check out my profile and recent reviews. By Angieslist's policy I cannot state the other company name in this review.

    Armored Basement Waterproofing
Short version: Jay (the owner) found the source of my leaky basement. It's the slow leak from water heater.  Saved me $4000 of unneeded repair from other highly rated Waterproofing company on Angieslist. Gave me good advice and charged me a big zero dollar for the exceptional service. I hope everybody is as honest as Jay and his company. If I do need water proofing service in the future, I will definitely call Jay.
    Long story:
I had water puddle on the basement floor near an interior wall in the utility room (water heater/ hvac). After cleaning it up a few times, the water kept seeping out from the base plate of the interior wall. I thought to myself probably water came from underneath the slab.
I called several highly rated waterproofing companies on Angieslist to come out and take a look. One company quoted me $3,950 to replace my sump pump and the under floor drainage pipes surrounding the problem area. Their visual diagnosis was hydrostatic pressure from underneath the slab and water came from either the cracks or nail holes under the interior wall's base plate.
Jay came in on time on Saturday morning and got down to investigate the problem right away. Like the other reviewer said, Jay brought his tool bag with him, not just a tape measure and a bunch of flyers as some other guys did. At first look, Jay said it could not be hydrostatic pressure issue (water came in from underneath) since the area was so close to the sump pump. He asked if he could drill a hole on the floor to rule it out. And He was right. No water came in from the floor at all. He then proceeded to open up the Furnace/HVAC unit and water heater to check for water sign. He pulled out a bit of insulation from the water heater and squeezed out a good amount of water. It turned out the water heater slowly leaked for a while. He concluded that I would need a plumber not a water proofer. Jay patched the hole and advised me to buy some mold prevention products to spray on the nearby drywall.
You see Jay came in prepared and actually investigated the problem, not just visually inspected/diagnosed like the other guys. He is knowledgeable and an honest person. Too bad not a lot of other companies/people are like him.
Jay will be the one I call for my future water proofing project.

    Apex Waterproofing
    It went very well.

We were going to build a gym in the basement, but we had a leak the previous year in the room where the gym was going to be. So before starting, we wanted to find the source of the leak. The source of the leak was a crack in the foundation located in the gym room.
After receiving several quotes with varying prices and avenues of approach on how to fix my cracked foundation, we were overwhelmed and frustrated. He told us our options and there was no high pressure sales technique to complete the job. There was a 100% life warranty for his work and is transferable to the new owners if we were to sell our home.

The basement did leak again after a heavy rain, but without hesitation or reservation, they came out immediately to redo the work for for free.

It went great.  We kissed a lot of frogs before we found this company.  Some estimates were ridiculous but these folks were well-priced and did good work.  We'd heard a lot of horror stories about companies installing sumps but hese folks are golden.  Thank you.

    Bright Construction Group
The job was discussed in depth and the procedures were executed precisely as described. A rendering of the jobs was provided which was very beneficial. The men worked tirelessly and carefully and enjoyed their work. I am very pleased with the results. My water leaks were cured and my paver walkway excels in it's application.

    Basement Innovations Waterproofing
This company, Basement Technologies, specializes in solving basement water leaks (the issue I have) but they told me this discount only applies if I purchase a $10,000 system from them, which I don't need. This Big Deal says "offering 25% off your full perimeter interior basement waterproofing drain system and sump pump for only $49!....FOR EXAMPLE, if your total bill comes to $10,000, you will be invoiced for $7,500.00" It appears to me this company gives a straight 25% off regardless of price. It does not specifically state you must pay $10,000 upfront to get the 25% off. This is why the company immediately told me to cancel this Big Deal. No service was completed. This is frustrating that Angie's List would allow such confusion to take place.

    Drainage and Erosion Solutions
Now that the repair is completed, we can see why they are rated A/A+. DES did a great job and accomplished all they indicated in their proposal of work and then some. We were impressed with their professionalism, responsiveness/dependability, hard work and the quality of work achieved, attributed to Dave as the Project Lead, to his crew supervisor, and the work crew itself. Money was well spent including a nice 15% discount up front. They also did a fantastic job replacing and tamping all soil in and placing new grass sod in, replacing all walkway stones lawn looks new and better than it did before the work was performed. As they advised, I went and accomplished a walkthrough inspection with the crew supervisor and had the opportunity to check and ensure all was normal to include all sprinkler system heads being relocated into their original positions in that section of the yard. I recommend DES to any homeowner who has a leakage problem, wet basement and is looking for honest, dependable service and top-quality results!

    Drainage and Erosion Solutions
Called Drainage and Erosion after late summer flooding. They said they were busy and I said I wasn't in a big rush. 3 weeks later they called to say they could schedule an appointment. The guy came out, we talked for a good long time. He suggested many ways to solve my drainage and erosion problems. Within a few days Drainage and Erosion cashed my check for the consultation. 3 weeks later I still didn't have what I paid for, no quote, no proposal, no nothing. I called and after a week I received a check for $150. Very frustrating because I have big drainage and erosion problems and now I have to start over.

    Drainage and Erosion Solutions
I had an evaluation to discuss water which came into the basement during the recent heavy rains in early Sep 2011.  I believe it was Dave who did the evaluation (I may have the name wrong).  He was knowledgeable and worked hard to fit me in to their busy schedule.  Unfortunately based on the structure of the townhomes, the fact that I had previous outside waterproofing done, the location of the leak and other factors, it was hard to ascertain where exactly the leak could have occurred.  It was recommended I contact another contractor that does inside work, Value Dry, who unfortunately felt my problem did not require scheduling someone to come out examine and to just advised me to "wait and see".

I guess my biggest complaint is the waste of 150.00 to have someone come out just to tell me what I already know (which is we can't identify the exact reason the water is coming in and then have the recommended company who could possibly help with the problem pretty much not even interested in coming out to see the problem).  Overall, the engineer was knowledgeable, I'm sure they do good work, but the $150 is a bit steep to only have air in my hand at the end of the day.
