Woodworking reviews in Lexington

    Dougherty Brothers
These guys rushed through the job and created more damage than good.  They rushed our floors before the house was sealed properly and wood did not cure.  (partially the fault of the builder, but they allowed it).  Due to poor/delayed drywall installation they rushed all our doors and trim work.  All our interior doors were hung not plumb or square and now need to be replaced.  Our stair balusters are not equi-distant on the ascend as the top of the landing.  There are too many per step which caused stain and paint issues.  The stair board was never capped, builder refused to do it on punch list, never contacting the vendor.   And door plugs for exterior were sealed in the trim, we had to pay for them twice.  (Builder issues are the basis of extra costs charged to us.)
When we resolved issues with builder and contacted the vendor, the owner Tim Dougherty interrogated us on our issues with the builder who was paid in full as was this vendor.  We sent pictures of the home inspection report and the damage just to the stairs requesting he see it to provide a cost of repair and solutions.  He refused and decided to side with the builder vs. standing by his work.  After a review was posted online, he changed his tune and wanted to come look at the job.  At that point, we did not want the man in our home.
Would insert pics if I could.  It's shocking how these carpenters have no pride in their work.

Do not engage this contractor!  He abandoned the project half-finished when we questioned the quality of his work, leaving us without a working bathroom or kitchen in our house. He did not finish ANY of the projects.
Here are some of the most agregious examples: (1)  Didn't properly prep sheet rock with primer before painting; (2) Sanded the floors by hand instead of renting the appropriate equipment - unsurprisingly, there are now uneven boards that still show notches; (3)  Didn't match the varnish correctly with the existing hardwood floors - now we have two colors; (3)  Moldings in the bathrooms did not meet properly in the corners, and were filled with caulk rather than being properly cut; (4)  Instead of taping the corner joints of sheet rock, he used wood molding.
The painting was also pretty abysmal.  If we just wanted to slap paint on the walls, we would do it ourselves.  We hired a contract to sand and smooth out the walls, paint the trim evenly, etc. Also, the painting was done after the floors were finished, and voila - now there are paint stains on the floors.
And to top it all off, he left us with a bunch of trash and debris littered throughout the house - we now have to hire a dumpster to cart it away.

The work was completed on time with excellent results and cost less than the estimate.
