    I worked with Saul who was very responsive (a rarity for sure) and he and his crew were able to complete the job ahead of time, again something that is very unusual. My past experiences with contractors is that they are poor at estimating when they will be able to start the job resulting in the job being done later than promised. The quality of the work was first rate, and they were able to complete the job in one day, which is crazy given the amount of work they had to do.

    Bramhall Trucking Inc
    Bramhall was great to work with. Honestly one of the best companies we have ever worked with. Not only were their prices less expensive than competitors but their timing accommodations were fantastic. Mike, the owner, came out to meet with our project manager the morning of our install to help coordinate all of the deliveries and haul away trucks, which I know helped make the project move much more efficiently. At the last minute, a few days into the project, we needed another load of stone dust. Not only were they able to accommodate the request the same day but they were on site with the delivery within an hour!! I would highly recommend this company!

    It was awesome!! Mackie (project manager and owner) was flexible, as were his employees as project went on. I tend to be picky and like to change things as the projects progress. The whole team was just so agreeable and Mackie made several trips back and forth to Maryland (from northern VA) for materials 2 days in a row. Never a frustration or problem mentioned. The crew was fun to work with and Mackie seems to foster a trusted relationship with his crew. All around, a wonderful experience. I will be using them many times again and I will recommend them to all neighbors and friends who ask me (and the ones who don't!!)

    I started shopping for a kitchen designer in July 2014.  We received a free kitchen consultation from Abbey.  I was pleased with the materials and options presented from the Designer.   I needed to push out the install closer to the New Year.  I appreciated the no pressure follow-up calls to understand my status for the project.  When Abbey had EoY incentives I decided to sign a contract for the project in January.  We were looking forward to our dream kitchen!  All materials (flooring, appliances, cabinets, counters) were ordered and we expected to start in March of 2015.
    I shopped online for knobs, pulls, fixtures, etc.  I requested a pricing for Top Knobs and Kohler through Abbey since they are authorized dealers.  I received an acknowledgement email on Feb 10 from the Design Assistant informing me that she would provide the pricing but, they had already received knobs and pulls in the warehouse for my project.  The items were non-refundable.  I replied, ?I didn?t order any knobs?.  My Designer had mistakenly ordered the items.  In short, there Dealer prices are high and there is a lack of attention to detail.
    I received a start date of March 16, 2015 from my Designer via email on Feb 12, 2015.  I confirmed and emphasized the importance of any changes since we had to schedule with another installer for the floors and we also had travel plans.  The Designer confirmed March 16 start date on Feb. 20th.  WE followed up with the Designer on March 9 to make sure we were on schedule.  The Designer confirmed the March 16 demolition and install start date on March 13 (3 DAYS BEFORE START).  I locked in everything based on the confirmed start date.  I received a call of the Designer on March 14th requesting they push my install back to the 20th.  In short, they schedule on the fly.  The dates are always moving and there is very little communication when changes need to occur.  I demanded they meet the proposed schedule.
     The demolition started on March 16, 2015.  The contract team was here for about 4 hours.  Cabinet delivery and install set for March 23rd.  The cabinets were installed.  We identified some doors needed to be replaced as well as an entire cabinet had a support brace which specifically did not want.  We requested a replacement.  The cabinet and door order went in to Fieldstone and we expected delivery on May 10th.  I refused to make a payment for the cabinet install since the job was incomplete.  The billing company contacted me several times for payment. 
     WE followed up with the Designer several time to understand status.  My Designer confirmed the cabinet arrived and they would be able to finish my project on May 14th.  The installer arrived with the new cabinet but, the Design never order replacement doors.  Without the stability brace down the center of the cabinet face there was a ¾? gap between the doors.  She was told the doors would fit and she failed to order the materials.  She would order new doors from Fieldstone.  We should expect them in 6-8 weeks.  WE followed up with the Designer several times to understand status.  I was able to use my kitchen from May 14th which was a huge relief.  The kitchen was also very nice we just need to ?finish up?.  I refused payment for
    the cabinet install since doors are part of the installation.  The Accounting Dept. contacted me several times.  We walked through and completed a punch list of items and we agreed about next steps.  Part of my punch list included ¼ round
    molding that Abbey agreed to install.  I understand nothing is 100% level and shims are used as needed.  I certainly don?t expect to pay $38K for a kitchen install and see gaps around the flooring and exposed shims.  Abbey contacted me later and said the molding is the responsibility of the flooring company and since they didn?t install the floor to contact them.  I pushed
    back.  Abbey committed to this in the punch list and furthermore, I don?t understand how this unfinished appearance would be acceptable to anyone especially considering the expense of approx. 35? of 1/4? molding.  WE followed up with the
    Designer several time to understand status.  Abbey finally replaced the molding with the matching Fieldstone 1/4" round.  The molding is typically extra and not ordered to save cost according to the Designer.
    My Designer contacted me to inform me of a Leave of Absence.  She identified the replacement contact.  I requested the new Designer to come over and review project status.  He came over on May 22nd and ordered the remaining items and punch list
    supplies (1/4? molding, island side panels (damaged from installation method), doors, trim.  All minor stuff. 
    I noticed we were tripping fuses which we have never experienced before so, I assume the new appliances were drawing additional load.  I contacted my own licensed electrician to assist with a fuse problem on June 26, 2015.  My contractor billed me $300 to redo the wiring completed by the Abbey installation crew.  I understand my house is wired unusually but, it is compliant to County code.  The Abbey installer inadvertently tied 2 fuses together causing a very dangerous condition.  My Designer requested that Abbey have their Electrician review the completed work before accepting responsibility for my bill.  WE
    followed up with the Designer several time to understand status.  Finally, I just submitted the bill to Abbey as part of the punch list.  I do not know if Abbey installer is a licensed electrician.  I had 2 installers complete my entire job and no outside plumber or electrician ever came to my home.
    I started escalating on July 2nd.  I sent emails to my Designer, President, Management, Accounting, etc.  I never received any response with the exception of my Replacement Designer.  The communication was horrendous.  It became necessary for me to follow up every day for status updates, push timelines, and drive the project to completion.
    I received an email that everything would be completed on July 24th.  The installer came late on the 24th and forgot the doors.  I demanded someone bring the doors so they could complete the job.  Abbey completed my job on July 24, 2015. 
    I would not recommend Abbey Design.  I am satisfied with the work and the kitchen looks great!  I feel I paid a premium
    price and had to manage the Project myself.  I didn?t expect it would be necessary to follow up constantly and request
    updates.  The main problems I identified with Abbey is the poor communication and lack of attention to detail.  Both are imperative in a kitchen remodel. 
    If the Abbey Management invested in Project Managers and Administrative staff to assist the Designers and Installers it may be a different experience.

    Mottern Masonry Design
    I used Jeff and his Mottern Masonry crew once before for some brick work and was so impressed with the quality of their workmanship that I never considered anyone else when I was finally ready to set my patio and landscape retaining wall.  I spoke with Jeff in early Sept and asked if he could come out to give me an estimate and his professional opinion on my ideas. 
    He scheduled me within a week and arrived on time and eager to hear what I was envisioning.  We discussed the pros and cons of stamped concrete and flagstone, as well as various types of landscape wall materials.  After about 30 minutes of brainstorming he wrote up two separate estimates for the patio and two more for the landscape wall - all within reason and my expectations given the respective materials.  When asked, Jeff told me matter of factly that he thought the less expensive landscape wall option would look much better.  I let Jeff know it would likely take some time to get back him since the HOA had to review and approve the design.  He understood completely, commented that he did a lot of work in the neighborhood
    and didn't foresee any issues with any of the designs being considered, and offered to put the job on his calendar for the week I was expecting to hear back from the HOA, adding that we can always push it back if needed.
    As Jeff expected, the HOA approved both of the designs and work commenced on schedule two business days later when he showed up in the morning to ensure the trace lines were accurate.  The entire project took only four days ? three for the patio and one for the landscape wall.
    Jeff and his crew were always professional and pleasant to work with, and they cleaned up the yard as if it were their own each
    evening.  In just the first week after the project was completed three neighbors and an unrelated contractor all commented how terrific it looked and inquired about the company that did the job.  Another neighbor commented that the crew was "great" and "very considerate".  It?s pretty obvious Jeff's team are masters of their craft who enjoy what they do.  Their patience and
    attention to detail are evident in their work, and I?m very pleased how everything turned out.   So just go with
    Mottern Masonry, you won't regret it.

    Meadows Farms Landscaping
    Went well: The landscaper was on-time and reviewed the site and provided good feedback on existing plants/shrubs, and upkeep.
    However, would likely not buy again because for the cost of the service proposed (multiple thousands of dollars), this should be a free consultation to potential customers.
    The drawing was easy to understand and had clean recommendations which I did wind up using to do myself at a significant cost reduction ($400 total + my own time).

    HEMAX Construction Services & Landscaping LLC
    Hemax was amazing from start to finish. From our very first meeting when Max came out to do the estimate, we knew he was the one we were going to hire. After obtaining 4 more estimates, sure enough we called Max and he immediately provided a conceptual sketch for the project. Once the project began, the service remained superb! Max and his entire staff were extremely pleasant, fantastic communicators and extremely professional. From the start, HEMAX project 2 weeks to complete all the work. Sure enough, they did just that. During the construction, the workers remained active and diligent from early arrival until they were done for the day (sometimes into the late evening). Through every step, they kept us informed about what they were doing and when they were doing it. When things popped up that we hadn't thought of, they immediately contacted us and gave us all options along with the pros and cons for each option which helped make our decisions very easy. Max came to the worksite (our home) almost everyday to check in and see how things were going. He kept the lines of communication open throughout the process. In the end, when all the work had been done, Max came out for a final walk through. He saw things that we would have never noticed. Without any hesitiation, Max had those minor imperfections corrected. By the time we did our final walk around with Max, we realized that he took the initiative to do some additional work (at no cost to us) to close off areas we hadn't thought about or that simply made the enitre project look incomplete. In the end, everything was perfect!!!! We couldn't have asked for a better experience. We are already looking at additional projects we want to do at our home. Rest assured, we won't look any further. We are definately using HEMAX again! Since our project was completed, a number of neighbors have raved about our patios, etc. All want to use HEMAX!

    We couldn't have asked for a better experience during our recent patio install.  Jeff (owner) and his crew at Modern Masonry ("MM") worked with us and our budget to install a backyard patio that hit everything on our wish list.  During the estimate process, we provided MM with various design and material options and they took the time to write up multiple estimates to help with our decision.  The project commenced almost immediately as the materials we selected (stamped concrete) allowed for scheduling flexibility.  MM estimated the job would take ~2 weeks from start to finish.  Thankfully, the weather cooperated and they wrapped up in just under two weeks.  MM's crew assigned to our project was extremely clean and courteous.  They ensured that tools were packed up at night and trash was disposed of timely.  You could tell from the pride they put into their work that everyone on the crew had extensive experience installing patios.  Jeff (owner) mentioned that his crews have worked directly for him for many years which is an added benefit of using MM. 
    The end result is a product that will get a lifetime of use from our family.  We will certainly recommend Mottern Masonry to all of our friends and neighbors.

    The work went great.  They cleaned up after themselves.  It took about five days to complete.  There was about six workers that came out do different projects.  I would tell a friend to go with them. They take pride in their work and do a great job.

    Saunders Landscape Supply
    Problem 1: The order online service is great EXCEPT that their calculator is incorrect. As a result we did not order enough material. Once Saunders agreed that there was a problem with their online calculation tool, I was given the choice to order the additional material at $160 more than it would have cost to purchase the additional quantity originally. Not an adequate solution since the calculation error was a result of their website. I was will to pay the difference.

    I spoke to Don Saunders who remedied the situation by refunding my order and telling me to find a new service provider since they didn't want to deliver to my location anymore (even though I am well within their listed delivery areas.) While nice to refund my order, yet unprofessional, they left us at the 11th hour short on materials costing us additional money in labor.



    Problem 2: My order was confirmed for delivery on 10/22. At 4:30 on 10/22 I was told that they would not be delivering my material until the following day due to rain. Interesting since these are outdoor materials and their website says delivery rain or shine! No remorse or apology for the inconvenience.
