    Howard's Haven Inc
It went poorly. Howard made promises to get the work that he didn't follow thru on. The patio had to be completely redone because the work product was so poor. A project that should have taken 2 weeks took 6 weeks and even at that would have gone longer had I not given an ultimatum. Day after day his guys would arrive and do nothing awaiting Howard's arrival. Routinely that didn't happen until 2 - 3pm. Once a majority of the payment was made I was no longer a priority. He left my yard in such poor shape that my wife at one point was in tears. We are left with a patio that has below average craftsmanship, A yard that is going to cost a lot of money and time to repair, and are still finding all the residual damage. Like the dryer vent that was broken when the outer part was pulled off by Howard. Let me be even more detailed, he never called miss utility, didn't properly measure so none of the dimensions from the initial drawing were met. He and his team dropped and broke my $1700 gazebo requiring a replacement. Which he covered and tried to tout as a big favor he did me by paying for what he broke. Speaking of the gazebo, the area of the patio designed to have the gazebo wasn't built large enough. I had to manage the work myself, they forgot to run the drain line, forgot to run the electric, left uneven spots in the patio. Everyday I had to come home from work and work my second job managing this project. I hope by now you realize you shouldn't hire this company. He told me how much experience he had and that his business is 90% referrals. I don't see how that's possible. This was a terrible experience and we spent A LOT of money. We wanted to be excited about our new backyard and instead we ended up with a nightmare.

    U.S Construction Group
To correct the slope at the NE corner of the back yard, the contractor constructed a retainer wall of treated wood. He was told to protect the wood against contact with water and wet soil to prevent preservation chemicals from leaching out. To effect that, he installed a plastic screen with drainage tubing on one side but not on the other side. The outlet of the tubing was at same level of the yard ground level instead of placing it at the lowest point for proper drainage, thus violating a simple hydraulic engineering principle. Also there was no such tube at the other end of the wall. No rain water ever exited the tubing because of its positioning and, possibly, because it was damaged by the fence posts which were dug in too close to the screen. The retainer wall remains exposed to contact with water and mud, and therefore, will be exposed to rotting. The retainer wall needs to be re-built properly from the ground up respecting sound engineering design principles. The contractor falsely claimed he would construct the fence similar to the one made at the Builder's model home. He hired a subcontractor to do the fence who worked without any supervision by the main contractor. The fence was built partly on the neighbor's property in order to reduce the expense of erecting it on the property line. Our neighbor was upset and we promised to have the situation corrected. Our complaint to the contractor fell on deaf ears. Also the fence posts were supposed to be immersed in cement. This was not done and resulted in the fence gate not properly closing. The contractor tried to correct the gate closing , but shifting of the posts caused the problem to persist. Also the fence was supposed to be at most 1-2 inches above ground level. This was not the case. There are gaps as much as 8-10 inches where animals can crawl into the back yard. The whole fence needs to be reconstructed along with the retainer wall. The contractor did not allow for rain water drainage in the back yard by constructing 2 walkways that prevent drainage. Rain water was backing out against the house. He refused to correct this faulty planning on his part and we had to hire a contractor to construct proper drainage. The cost of the retainer wall including excavation, wood, and its erection was $4,000. The cost of the fence was $3,300, The cost of drainage work (paid extra by us) was $700. The total cost for which the contractor is liable to us is $8,000. When confronted with this request, the contractor offered to re-imburse only $700 provided we drop all other claims of faulty workmanship. We refused his offer. All our claims of faulty workmanship can be proven by allowing any prospective member requiring such services to visit the site and we will take them on a tour of the backyard. This offer is also made to any representative from Angies List.

I worked with Saul who was very responsive (a rarity for sure) and he and his crew were able to complete the job ahead of time, again something that is very unusual. My past experiences with contractors is that they are poor at estimating when they will be able to start the job resulting in the job being done later than promised. The quality of the work was first rate, and they were able to complete the job in one day, which is crazy given the amount of work they had to do.

    American Exteriors & Masonry
Nate came out, took the time to listen patiently to what we had in mind for our patio areas. Once we finished describing our initial ideas, Nate made excellent recommendations which greatly improved our patios well beyond our expectations. Manuel and his crew started on schedule, and completed our project on time. The crew cleaned up every day, worked with us on minor changes and were very polite. The patios turned out excellent and we couldn't be more pleased. We highly recommend American Exteriors & Masonry and look forward to working with them again in the future!

    MERIDIAN LANDSCAPING LLC
Although Meridian did not do work for us I am posting this as a caution for anyone wanting transparency in what they are getting from Meridian. Tim Gardiner (the owner) came out to look at our project (a front patio and walkway) and showed great interest in performing the work - contacting us via email to get our final design plan so they could provide a price. We requested a bid from them and included a request for a breakdown of the costs on a task by task basis so we could understand what we were receiving and had a basis for making a decision as well as fair price modifications should the project change in advance or during construction. As soon as we asked for a breakdown of costs Meridian pulled out and said they could not give us a price for the project. Apparently transparency is not a priority for them. Just beware. (I have no idea on the quality or value of their work otherwise.)

    Phoenix Home Services Inc
I requested an estimate online through their website. Within a few minutes Clint Asmar called me to schedule an appt. That was very impressive. Clint met with us at our home and was very knowledgeable about possible design ideas as well as how this project could/would tie into future projects we are considering. Within a couple days he had a written estimate as well as a visual design. Phoenix was one of 4-5 estimates we received. They were not the absolute highest, but were in the upper-middle area. We decided to go with Phoenix because of their references as well as Clint's ideas. Within 5-6 weeks Neil Mohammed (our project manager) contacted us to set up a meeting to discuss placement as well as construction. Neil was great throughout the whole process. He answered all of our questions and kept us informed along the way. One of the major considerations we had while comparing vendors was whether to use flagstone or pavers. Pavers can certainly be less costly but we did not want the ongoing maintenance. The other consideration was whether to dry-set the flagstone or set them on concrete with mortar. Again, dry-setting the stone is less costly, but again we did not want the ongoing maintenance. Now that the project is complete, we are very glad we decided to set on concrete with Mortar. In the end, it was completely worth it. We now have beautiful, solid projects that we are proud of. Phoenix Home Services will definitely be considered for our future projects.

    Green Earth Landscaping LLC
From the beginning their project advisor was very courteous and helpful. We scoped out the project and they were very attentive to our budget as well. Completed quickly and very attentive to keeping the project area clean and organized. We had some stones come lose after a year and their after product warranty support was super ! They came out and fixed everything immediately ! We intend to use them again when we expand our backyard projects.

The work was done in a very professional manner and results were terrific. The walkways and capped porch greatly enhanced the curb appeal of our house and the walkway in the rear made the yard more beautiful and the lower deck much more usable. We are totally satisfied with the results. Jorge was great and his workers arrived on time and on site manager and workers did a wonderful job.

    Omega Landscape Construction
It was awesome!! Mackie (project manager and owner) was flexible, as were his employees as project went on. I tend to be picky and like to change things as the projects progress. The whole team was just so agreeable and Mackie made several trips back and forth to Maryland (from northern VA) for materials 2 days in a row. Never a frustration or problem mentioned. The crew was fun to work with and Mackie seems to foster a trusted relationship with his crew. All around, a wonderful experience. I will be using them many times again and I will recommend them to all neighbors and friends who ask me (and the ones who don't!!)

    Salzano Custom Concrete
The patio and wall are beautiful.  I spoke with multiple concrete companies and Salzano is the only one I found that does the multicolor.  They arrived on time and completed the patio in the time expected.  They were very professional and did a great job of cleaning up after themselves.
