    Bull Run Kitchen & Bath
My wife and I purchased a home in Jeffersonton, VA. We decided to remodel the kitchen. We met with a few contractors and then met with Matt at Bull Run. He was very professional and provided great guidance through the project. The initiail reason we chose them was due to the fact that every other contractor was booked through October. Matt said Bull Run could complete the job by the end of July, months ahead of the others. We were glad we chose Bull Run! Everyone we dealt with was comletely professional and a pleasure to work with. Edgar, the main sub who was at our home on a daily basis was almost a member of the family by the time the job was done. And as mentioned, Matt was really great but due to some outside issues had to turn the project over to Salih. He was also a fantastic partner and acted as our advocate through the completion of the project. We never doubted that he had our best interest in mind and that showed up even more when we had some issues with our new gas range at the end. He worked things out to help us remediate the problem and was a true professional about it. I would recommend Bull Run Kitchen & Bath to anyone.

    Hagan Build & Design
We first hired Chris to fix water damage done to a ceiling. He was on time, finished the job within the time frame and true to his estimate. When we needed our interior painted for a move, we knew that we would use Chris based on first impressions. And, staying true to who he is as a professional, his crew was always on time, extremely professional, they finished on time and true to his estimate. I would't use anyone else for my remodeling needs.

    Richstone Marble & Granite LLC
The work was contracted the last week of October and was promised to be completed by Thanksgiving. Their final work was on December 21, 2015. Very Late, The quartz countertops they replaced were perfect. No problem there. The tile backslash installed had uneven surfaces and they had to remove and replace a number of tiles after I pointed them out to them. The biggest hastle was with the tile floor. They had absolutely no quality control and only replaced tiles when I pointed out many, many uneven tiles over the course of several weeks. The grout seams were never filled in to a consistent appearance. Even after replacing probably two dozen tiles throughout various areas of the floor, I could still point out numerous uneven tiles today. I basically paid them their final payment to get the constant mess out of my house that I had just moved into. Trust me- I had tile floors put in four separate rooms in my previous house by three different contractors and never had to point out one problem to any of them.

    Brian's Painting Co
Brian Wells and his painters painted the entire interior of a nearly 3000 SF home that I recently purchased. Their work quality is outstanding. Brian is really picky in the quality of his work and it shows. The entire job was done when promised and without any problems whatsoever. The home has hardwood floor throughout and i was concerned about paint winding up on the floors or wood trim. This was not a problem. Brian and his workers were extremely careful and I could not be happier with the results. I also had them do some drywall repair and you cannot tell that there was ever any repair required. I recommend Brians Painting Company and intend to have them do some exterior painting next year.

    Dominion Floors Inc
We chose Dominion Hardwoods over another vendor on the strength of their initial visit; Gene was more engaged with us than the other estimator and we thought that would translate into a better job. When the estimates came and Dominion's was the lower of the two, that was just the icing on the cake for us.
We boarded our cats and moved out of the house to give the crew the perfect environment in which to work -- no cats, no footprints, no interfering residents.
When we arrived back home, our first impression was good. The color was wonderful and the floors looked great. But the closer we looked, we found swirl marks everywhere, some of which were left by the buffer. Many others, though, on closer inspection, actually had stain in them and were obviously scratch marks from the initial sanding grits that had not been properly sanded out during subsequent sanding passes with higher grits. I'm a woodworker myself, and this is a sign of improper sanding technique. It is, despite Gene's later insistence to the contrary, possible to get out all sanding marks with proper technique.
We also discovered that our refrigerator had not been reconnected to the water supply, that there was an obvious margin of poly where the fridge door opens so that whenever the door is open you can see the bubbly area where the poly zones blended between the area under the fridge and the area in front of the fridge. As we inspected still further, we found more of the sanding marks around our kitchen island and in the transition between the family room and breakfast nook. And in our main entry hallway.
Furthermore, in our entry hallway, the sanding job (which we learned was necessarily done using an edger instead of the larger floor sander due to the way the boards were oriented) was so poor that the floor looked ripply, especially when compared to the nice flat surfaces on either side of it. Standing in our kitchen and looking toward the front door, the ripples leaped out at us especially with the morning and evening sun glinting across them.
When we looked at our stair treads, we found that the bullnose edges of every single tread was now rough. My wife used to dust these and knows that it wasn't this way before. And the sides have chunks ripped out from where the crew used a scraper to remove finish but never though to apply sandpaper to make them smooth again. On some of the treads, there are vertical chatter marks from where the scrapers skipped across the face of the tread leaving gashes.
We emailed Dominion to tell them we had some concerns. They said they'd come by and the next morning, two crew members we'd never met arrived, looked around, appeared overwhelmed, took some pictures, made a phone call from our front yard, and said they'd be back later.
They returned the next morning, sanded down and refinished a few spots, and said they'd be back later with a full crew. They returned that night with a full crew including our original crew manager, refinished our entry hallway, some areas we had not indicated had problems, and sanded and then ruined by improperly staining in our kitchen while ignoring all the scratched boards around it. This board is now not only noticeably lower than its neighbors but the stain is blotchy due to poor wood preparation.
They returned the next morning to apply poly to the entire floor in an attempt to blend the finishes and we had to be out of the house all day while our cats were locked in an upstairs bedroom. We returned to find the result less than ideal -- the single board looked terrible and the repaired areas looked "patchy", with variances in sheen and color evident.
We contacted Dominion again and registered our displeasure. This finally got Gene to come by and take a look. After much persuasion, Gene agreed that the stairs were damaged, that some of the scratches in the floor actually were made at the sanding stage, not by the buffer as they first tried to insist, and that the repairs so far have produced sheen and color variances in the floor. When I told him about the single board in the kitchen, he said, "We don't refinish single boards," until I showed him the lone affected board and the crew manager admitted that they had for some reason sanded and refinished just that one board. We still don't know why. We have also discovered dented window sills on where it appears someone repeatedly rammed a sander into the sill board while sanding.
Most disturbing to us, during our walkaround with Gene, he several times pointed out to us that  "you can't really see these scratches when you're standing up." But when sitting in chairs, on sofas, picking things up off the floor, or sitting on those floors and playing with our kids? We still see them. Besides, the fact that they're there at all should have been the issue, not how close you had to be to them to see them.
They said they'd attempt to fix the stairs and the area in the kitchen with the most stained scratches. We instead decided that we'd rather not make the floor look any patchier than it already is and we had no faith left that they can improve our situation. We ended up paying the bill, minus a negotiated and agreed upon discount, and are chalking this up to a learning experience and will choose our contractors (and supervise them better) next time. My wife wants her house back and I want her to be happy.
I believe you might be able get good results from Dominion, but insist on inspecting their work at each step of the process to make sure you're getting the results you want, and make sure you amend the statement of work to specify that the job isn't complete until you're satisfied.

It was a very smooth experience.  I suspect that it is easier because we know him well as he knows us.
In the past when health problems have prevent me from doing outside work, he has come and mowed 5 acres and trimmed.  He is a a good gardener.

    KDK Home Improvements LLC
Our 28 year old home was in dire need of updated bathrooms and we contacted KDK Home Improvements through researching of Angie's List.  Our planned bath updates snowballed to include additional work which wasn't in the initial plan, but was very obviously needed as we progressed.  Dave Kammerude was very accomodating and understanding with each phase and introduced us to very competent plumber(Tommy Anglin), electrician (Mike Renfro) and carpenter (which happens to be his brother Jeff Heflin of New Shelter Construction).  All of these guys were a pleasure to work with and even they, along with Dave, have put in weekend days to get the job complete to accomodate our schedules and the completion of this major renovation project.  Jeff of New Shelter Construction installed new tongue and groove ceiling and skylights in our great room, wood paneling in our hallway and installed new windows and doors and wood flooring.  He did an excellent job and was very fast in completing each job.  Our thanks to Dave for introducing us to Jeff  and Tommy and Mike, too.  Dave did a beautiful job of resealing our logs in the great room of our home after he and Jeff used a "cornblaster" to remove years of dirt and dust to reveal beautiful wood underneath. Our project is nearing completion after three months of work and Dave has been an excellent communicator throughout the whole process. He will be coming back to do a kitchen backsplash and some additional exterior painting.  He went the extra mile in procuring materials and researching so that our home looks great!  We will recommend and  use him in the future.
