Home Builder reviews in Herndon

Hiring Thomas Custom Builders for this job was the smartest thing we've done in many years. From the first call I made to the final inspection, they were nothing but professional, skilled, courteous and (appropriately), funny. They understood what we wanted, we understood that no plan survives contact with reality, and whatever minor snags we ran into, we worked them out. The forman, Clifton, was a delight, as were Adam and Kevin, and Rick Thomas and David Holmes were a joy to work with. We are more than delighted with with finished room (and the insulation and drywalling of thte garage part), and though it's been more than a year, nothing has gone wrong that needed their attention, and the room continues to be a great pleasure to use and work in. Would definitely hire them the next time we do a major renovation.

We did the job in segments over a couple years, which I preferred and also suited his schedule. He took great care that everything was sound and everything looks great. I had been looking for years for a firm willing to take on this job, but most tend only to handle one brand. I fell lucky to have found this contractor and doubly lucky for the quality of the work.

I couldn't have been happier with Beauchain. The owners are super responsive and easy with which to work. The guys that performed the work were very personable, punctual, professional, and did an excellent job. The owner's even sent a thank you card afterwards which was a very nice touch. Would absolutely recommend to friends and family. Will definitely use again. And though I'm not going to put the pricing for the work done, it was VERY reasonable and less expensive than I expected.

I am not a happy camper. I'm not happy with my realtor either. Under the circumstances, because I don't feel like she protected me. When I first decided to build with him, I trusted that he and the realtor knew the pricing in the area and I was getting a fair deal where the nice houses are built. Okay, so, he and she rushed me into construction claiming that if I didn't sign the contract to get this thing started, I was going to lose the lot. So, my plan, my architectural plan was not final at this point. He based the contract off the preliminary plans; which came at 2877 square feet. The final plans added $7000.00 to the cost of the house. Okay, so, I agreed to it; I had a $50,000.00 deposit and was told emphatically that it was non-refundable. So, we get down to appraisal time and a brand new house, with the initial contract price of $496,000.00 with that additional square footage of the 504; the appraisal comes in at $25,000.00 less than the initial contract price. The builder is unwilling to budge on the price. Then, it's my right to dispute the appraisal. I disputed it and the appraiser came back with less than $500.00 than the original price. The real estate agent had pointed out that he didn't see a refrigerator in there because it hadn't been delivered yet. Down there a refrigerator is not required. That is an add-on to the cost to see and to add value. The plantation shutters were being installed the next day. He didn't see a stove either and he didn't the trash compactor because it too had not been delivered. And even with disputing it, he took $500.00 off his original appraisal. Yeah, I have a right, or had a right to get a field report but would have to pay another $300.00 to get another appraiser from the same company to come out. If they said that he was wrong, then my lender would have paid for a whole new appraisal with another company. If they said he was right, then I had the option of paying for a second appraisal with another company. My real estate agent would not let me do that. She would not let me do that and she that when the builder gives you a three week window, the house is basically done and you have three weeks in which to close; that is strict and that we were now two weeks past that three week window and if I didn't close by tomorrow, he would list the house. I would lose my $50,000.00 and the $20,000.00 worth of upgrades that I have put into the house. So, then I discovered after this appraisal came back. I did my own little comparison, like realtors do with comps; and discovered that a house he built around the corner from me 6 months earlier was at $144 a square foot. My house was $172 a square foot. Eight houses away and 20% higher than 6 months earlier. Now, I would buy 5%, I might even buy 10% as increase in cost; but 20%? The most expensive house in the neighborhood that was just completed and at 800 square feet more than mine was built at $157 a square foot. So, he's even 10% over that person. And he would not budge. I am being forced into this closing tomorrow when I still have options available to me if my realtor would let me exercise them. So, I could give you a rating on Medallion Construction but...when you are charging me 20%  I would not be willing to use them again in the future.

I cannot recommend them more highly. They are good value, high quality and very reliable. For our bathrooms they stripped them back to the studs, built arches, moved walls and replaced ceilings. They fitted regular ceramic tiles in two bathrooms and high quality travertine (sone) in the other along with glass decorative inlays and stone features. They look amazing! The deck was a major project. They moved air conditioning units and built out a two level deck with metal/ composite railings, low voltage lighting and Trex decking laid out in a pattern style with two different colors. Again the results were amazing. Matt is quick to provide detailed estimates and always on hand to answer questions before, during and after the project starts. Elvis manages the crew, handles complex elements personally and brings in specialists when needed (like stonework or air-conditioning specialists). In all cases they have worked for us they start when they say they are going to start and finish on time. They are good at managing to a budget and load on "extras" unless they really are extras. Highly recommended.

Home Depot coordinated everything perfectly.  The installation Technician arrived on time and was very professional.  He had everything installed quickly.  For our back door, a shim was required to make it even but I complained about being able to see the shim from the inside.  The installation Technician explained he would need to return with a finishing piece of trim.  In the meantime, we experienced a small incident where the wind blew the back door open and there was a little damage to the pistons.  I reported the incident and On the Level Remodeling was quick to ship the replacement part before the installation Technician was scheduled to return!  When the installation Technician returned, he made the quick repair and adjustment and even strengthened the molding.  The finishing piece of trim looks and fits perfect!!  Again, everything was handled professionally and to closure.  We are very happy with this provider and HIGHLY recommend them!!  In fact, our neighbors liked our storm doors so much that they ordered a matching set as well!  Normally, I do not write reviews but since they did such a great job, I made this exception.

At first we were very happy. But soon after the shower started leaking. He sent his crew out once to fix it, but the problem remained and he wouldn't come back or even return phone calls. This year our roof is leaking around the skylights and again he won't return phone calls. Very unprofessional that he wouldn't even come look at what happened. I will update this review if he shows up.

The experience with RG Contractors was wonderful, competent and professional.  We appreciated the ease of the company with staff and crew.  We felt no one ever rushed the renovation we needed prior to our move-in date into our newly purchased home.  An unfortunate discovery of a leak in the solarium ceiling delayed the completion date.  However, we felt lucky it was discovered before it could have been potentially costly.  Overall, the competence and professionalism RG Contractors exemplify is top-notch. We will definitely use them again for future projects and have not hesitated to refer them to our friends due to their exceptional service.

They actually had to redo their work. They put a wrong color on our roof and then they had to redo that work. Once they realized their mistake they actually redid the work free of course. The price was comparable to all the other providers out there. The quality was excellent. We had to go after them quite a bit for them to come fix it. We had to talk to the top people there to just get them to respond to our issue that we had with the color. They were pretty punctual once we got a date out of them. We didn't expect them to make a mistake regardless. The workers were good. They did a good job and they cleaned up themselves.

I was initially concerned because they did not arrive within the arranged timeframe, but my concern was (I later learned) unnecessary because they DID successfully accomplish all the tasks we had mutually arranged for them to do before 5 PM the same day.  Also, later that weekend I had a question about the quantity and placement of the recessed lights and the owner, Craig, came by on the weekend to visit with me and talk about options.  We agreed that adding a couple more would be best so he arranged for one of the same guys that had done the initial work to come by as an early morning first stop and install additional ones.  He charged me a very reasonable rate for these "late additions."
Also, a couple of weeks later I realized that one of wall sockets in one of the bedrooms where a fan had been installed was no longer operating so I emailed Craig, the owner.  He had the same guy come out again first thing in the morning and fix it within minutes at no additional cost.
Working with Craig and his team was easy and professional!
