I have been going to this office for 10 years and have always been satisfied with my eye exams and fitting of glasses.  I've never had any problems with any part of the visits or with billing.  The only negative comment I have is that the visit takes longer than it probably should.  I normally wait in the waiting area, then again in the exam room, and sometimes again to be fitted for glasses.  It's not a huge problem for me and since it's only once every year or two I can deal with it.  I like going there and have liked every pair of glasses I've gotten.

Dr. Pascarela is a very kind, considerate doctor. He is very thorough and explains everything in detail. He has referred me back in 6 months to see an eye surgeon for possible removal of cataracts. The office and administrative staff were very kind and caring also and when I mentioned I should not have to pay for refractory since I was on Medicare they took it off of my bill.

I've been happy with my appointments with the optometrists here- the exams are fine, and haven't had problems with my glasses or contact prescriptions. But the office administrative staff doesn't seem very good: I've had billing problems every single time I've gone here. Sometimes they bill the wrong amount, sometimes they accidentally forget to bill me for months. Once they waited so long to bill my insurance for my contact lens prescription that my company had changed my insurance to another provider, and the new provider wouldnt cover the old charge and I had to pay out of pocket. Often when I went in for appointments, I would wait 20-30 minutes to see the doctor, because even with 5 admins up front at the desk and no other patients waiting, it took them that long to tell the doctor I was there. Several times when I've called asking a question about billing the admins got so confused when attempting to look up my information on their computers that I've waited 20, 30 minutes just to find out the status of my bill. Once I was even hung up on accidentally. I think they know this is a problem and are trying to address it with better staff training, so the situation could certainly improve, but I didnt want to have to deal with the hassle of late or incorrect bills anymore.

    Mccormick, Dr. Robert S.
I've been to many eye doctor's in my life time and this visit was one of the most pleasant I've encountered. It was easy to get an appointment, the office staff were very friendly and professional. The office was neat and comfortable with easy access and plenty of parking. It was also easy to find. Dr. McCormick was very nice and answered all my questions and concerns and took his time with my examination. There was no long waiting period to see the doctor, as you will find in most eye doctor's offices. His fees were also much cheaper than what the other opthamologists charge in the Harrisonburg area.

Overall I would recommend them. I will review again after my second visit in the next couple months. A woman I work with went to them again because they accepted our insurance. She was contacts and was very upset by their exam, recommendation and billing practices. I see another review that the patient was upset over contacts. I and my children only wear glasses so at this point I guess they are okay for that.

I usually visit my opthamologist every two years for a routine examination. I began having some unusual headaches, which I first thought were sinus related. I saw an ENT who ruled out any sinus issues, and he suggested having an eye exam. So, I scheduled an appointment with my opthamologist. I discussed the problem with him, and he gave my eyes a thorough examination. He found no problems, and suggested that I might see a neurologist if the headaches persisted. An optometrist also checked my eyeglass prescription while I was there and found that there was no change.
The staff and doctors were very efficient and pleasant. The wait time was not too long, around 20 minutes or so, which is normal for this office. Billing was handled promptly and efficiently.

I go to this place because it is the closest place in town that accepts my eye insurance. Therefore I don't have a big choice. I don't have a problem and so my whole family goes there. They have a course step and quite a turnover of doctors. The doctor I went to this time, I really liked. Up until then, I did not. Their staff behind the desk has been upgraded so they are definitely more professional now than they used to be. I was happy about that. I can recommend this one doctor that I see there that I really like. I thought that she was very professional and thorough and just a real delight for me. The desk staff has improved. I would recommend it with reservations as to who they see. I would use them again in the future.

This is the most horrendous outfit I have EVER experienced in the health field. I made an eye appointment, I wear contact lenses and my yearly prescription was out. My first flag was when the receptionist wanted my health insurance card in addition to my vision insurance card. I figured they had a way to milk it and that bothered me. Next flag was when the receptionist told me in addition to the cost of my exam, there was a contact lens "fitting fee" I told her I had been wearing contacts for 20+ years and didn't need fitting I just needed a prescription, she said "oh ok" and I thought that was the end of it. I was taken back to an exam room and after waiting long enough to fall asleep, the receptionist came back and went through the motions of checking my vision. I don't know if she was a receptionist, an assistant or a nurse but she was performing the duties of all of them. At that juncture of time, I thought she was the doctor because she was conducting an eye exam. After concluding the eye exam, she said Dr. Gowan would be back shortly. I was like ok, who are you then. After waiting another 20 minutes, I got to meet Michael P. Gowen. What an experience. I thought I was buying a used car from a slick city dealer, not getting an eye exam. This man cursed at least a half dozen times during my second eye exam. He told me all about his high school athletics, he told me he was taking my case personally and was going to get me in the right type of lenses(there were no problems with what I had) During my exam he told me I had "hells of cornea swelling" I asked if I should quit wearing contacts or what I should do. He told me no, no, you just need these slick new contact lenses. This man seriously acted more like a belligerent car salesman than a doctor. After this agonizingly long ordeal was over. I went up front to another receptionist, I guess. She started rattling off the costs of all these services and what my insurance plans are covering and on and on. I seriously lost track of where she was at. When she was all done she said what I had to pay was a $120. I said "excuse me" prior to this I had never paid more than $75 for an exam WITHOUT INSURANCE. After having it all explained again, the total bill was almost $300 and my portion was $120. Including the $100 contact lens fitting fee. My vascular surgeon charges $120 a vist and I pay $30!!! The true insult came a week later when I got a letter stating they forgot to charge me my deductible on the part they charged my health insurance and I owed another $30. I am not some whiney crybaby. This is probably the third complaint letter I have written in 40 years. So understand just what a scam that outfit is!!

They're very helpful with selection and are supportive to my needs. I am a swimmer and mentioned that. They offered perscription goggles to me which I was so excited about. They offer good support and information and are very easy to work with.
