    Smiths Tree Care Inc
Scheduled appointment a week prior and day before we were to meet, got a message I needed to reschedule, with first open slot some 2 weeks in the future... Called back and it turned out that even if I needed to have work done it would be 2 months before they'd be able to show up.... *That* information would have been useful to know in the initial conversation and up front - seems my time is not worth much compared to theirs. Actions and communications are not very professional and would recommend looking elsewhere.

    Cuttin' Up Tree Care
Fast service. Professional. Worked quickly and efficiently. Cleaned up nicely afterwards. Liz came to my rescue after another company took my deposit and didnt show up to do the job the next day as promised. I was told by Ryan that he would arrive around noon the next day and be finished by 6 PM. Id taken a half day off work (unpaid) so I could be there when the work began--Ryan never showed up, made excuses, and from then on then ignored my voice messages and texts. A week later and I have not heard back from Lyin Ryan, who still has my $100.00 deposit. When Liz completed the work I paid her in full. No deposit was asked for up front. She kept me updated as to when I could expect her to arrive. I would highly recommend Liz and her crew to my neighbors and friends.

    Commercial Tree Care
Ryan who told me he was a contractor working for the company, came to the house the same day I called. He gave me a reasonable price quote for the tree removal, and asked for a down payment (I gave him $100.00) before agreeing to do the job. He said he would come the next day to do the job, which is why I hired him over anyone else, sinse the job was an emergency and the tree or limbs could fall on the house. He told me hed be there around noon and would be done by 6 PM. The next day I got off work early (unpaid leave) so I could be there when the job started. He didnt show up. I called him and he said he would be there at 1 PM. He didnt show up. I called him again and he said he wouldnt be able to come because he was busy with another job. I called and texted him again, but he wouldnt take my calls or respond to my texts after that. I have not heard back from him since. Hes made no effort to contact me. Since the job was an emergency I had to contact someone else to do the work. He lied to me and took my $100.00--and he still has it--and has done no work at all. Do not work with this company.

    Against The Grain Tree Services
The crew cut the tree down and started cutting it up. The price that was quoted was reasonable and included hauling the tree away. My father hired him in the past and trusted him. He asked for payment for the work so he could pay his crew. Unfortunately my father paid him the full amount because he knew him and trusted that he would come back the next day to remove the lumber. He did not return nor would he answer phone calls or respond to multiple messages left for him. Needless to say there is a big mess in my father's back yard. We are very displeased with the service we received from this company. Past experiences we're good but this is disappointing.

The crew trimmed all the tree branches we discussed plus enough others to make the trees look their best without an increase to the agreed upon price. They did a good job cleaning up the yard and street. The crew wore appropriate safety gear. My observations were that safety was important to the foreman and the crew. All changes were discussed with me beforehand and the foreman got my concurrence before moving on to the next tree. The job went very well.

    Fox Hill Tree Service
I needed some large limbs removed from a tree in the back yard, and branches on some other trees to be trimmed away from roof and power lines. Tyler assured me that he had many years experience of climbing tall trees to cut branches. We agreed on where the tree would be cut back to, and a price of $800. My big mistake was not getting a written contract from Tyler/Fox Hill Tree Service, because he did not cut the tree back to the agreed point. He claimed that he couldn't safely climb the tree to cut the branches that were verbally agreed on, and needed a cherry-picker to cut them. He demanded $450 more for that. These were branches he'd assured me he could climb, and I overheard him chastizing his helper for taking down the rigging already. He clearly didn't want to bother putting it back up to climb back up to do the job he'd agreed on and wanted more money. He knew he had me over a barrel with the main dead tree limb still there and a danger to property. After a lot of arguing I agreed to pay an extra $300 for him to bring back a cherry-picker the next day. He turned up 2 hours late the next day so it was dark before he finished, so he just walked off leaving humongous logs all over the yard, right where they fell - too heavy for any one to move. He had verbally agreed to cut the logs into firewood-sized logs, and stack them along the fence in the back yard. He refused to cut them, or move them. He left the yard a complete mess. He took down the TV and phone cables; never put them back - left them lying on the ground. I called him and sent text msgs asking him to come back to finish the work he'd contracted for, but then he tried to get even more money. He wanted another $300 to come back to take care of the huge 3-ft diameter logs he left lying in the yard. I spoke with him and his business partner/wife who agreed he would come back and cut the logs into a manageable size and stack them along the fence as previously agreed - for an extra $150. Once again, he knew he had me over a barrel and after his wife agreed to $150, he demanded $180. I have her text msgs agreeing to fix the mess he left for $150 and that he would do it the next day. This couple wasted hours of my time continually arguing with me on the phone but never doing what they agreed. Of course, Tyler never showed up the next day, despite his partner's written assurance he would. This is an unethical business. Even if you have a written contract, Tyler will argue that it doesn't cover what he verbally agreed to, so unless you have a 30-page contract specifically spelling out EVERY aspect of the job (and preferably having diagrams and photos), he will not honor his verbal agreements and will have serious problems.

    Fox Hill Tree Service
Called Fox Hill Tree Service and told them what I needed. I told them it was a small job overall and asked them if they were interested. The gentleman I spoke with said yes so we set up a date and time for him to come over and look at the tree for an estimate. He had both my cell number and my home number. To make a long story short he never showed up for our appointment, didn't call or leave a message. I waited a week before I wrote this entry just to be sure he didn't try and call or there were some kind of extenuating circumstances. No such luck. I know this type of behavior is somewhat common with some contractors (I've had it happen to me several times over the years) but I hoped the contractors listed with Angie's were above this sort of behavior (that's why I use the service), but I guess not. This contractor has only been with Angie's List for about a month so maybe he hasn't gotten the word yet as to how Angie's operates. If he had told me at the start that he wasn't interested in such a small job that would have been perfectly okay. It would have been no problem whatsoever, and he still would have had my respect. Not now. Use at your own risk.

Their customer service was great. They brought out four guys and were very friendly and professional. I had particular request of what branches and where they were cut. They did a great overall job and accomplished exactly what I was looking to have done.

    SWEAT BROTHERS TREE SURGERY
It went well. I left a message indicating what I needed done and the location. I got a call back pretty quickly telling me the price and letting me know that he had about a three week wait. I needed to get permission from the neighbor to go across her yard to access the tree and that took me about a day. I tried to call back and get the job scheduled, but, no one answered the phone and the machine did not come on. I came on the Angie's list site and sent an e-mail. He called shortly after that and scheduled it for Saturday morning. They arrived promptly and finished up the job quickly. I then attempted to call them 3 separate times to arrange to get the receipt and pay them and had the same experience with the phone so I emailed them on Tuesday and received the receipt that night. So, the only complaint was not being able to reach them on the phone, but, the emailing seems to work fine for communicating.

    RELIABLE TREE SERVICE
My family has used this company for well over twenty years on multiple occasions. The most recent occasion was this past fall when Hurricane Matthew was threatening our area. I have a huge tree in my backyard and I was worried that a part of my tree was dying therefore compromising the integrity of the tree. I made one phone call and Rob was at my house within a couple of hours to look at my tree and re-assured me that everything was fine with the tree and the surrounding structures. This isnt the first time I have used this company in an emergency situation. In the Noreaster we had in November 2009, a huge tree limb snapped off one of my trees and landed on my house. Once again, I made the phone call and he was out there in a storm tarping the roof of my house and securing the limb so no further damage would incur. I have used Reliable Tree Service in many capacities; they have removed trees, pruned them and are always my first phone call in an emergency situation. Their customer service is first class, not to mention the knowledge Rob and his staff brings to the job. I would without a doubt recommend them to anyone
