    H W ENTERPRISES
I do not recommend H W Enterprises, Stacey Berland (owner) or Tommie Franklin (superintendent) to build, design, renovate or work on any type of construction project. They are not trustworthy, nor competent. They do not stay on site when work is being done. They often don't show up at all. She supervises work after it is done, resulting in rework. She contracts to install mini-splits, but actually gives the customer PTACs instead. We are 2 disabled Veterans, with 50 years of service between us. We hired HWE to do a major renovation. 1400 sq ft addition, 1 new bath, 2 remodeled baths, 12 new windows and driveway work. The job was so my recently widowed mother could come live with us. It was to be a 30 day job. On day 46, with about 40% of the work completed, she quit. We found out only when the trades & suppliers started calling us. She has received 73% of the job's cost. We will have to take her to court in order to recover the thousands of dollars she stole from us. Her erratic behavior is unnerving. Use someone - anyone - else. You have been warned...

    Colony Roofing
Sadly, this was a very unexpected matter for us. The siding of our home was installed before we purchased our home. ( the siding was on the home for approx 12 years?) We started noticing that the siding was not holding up. We had three different quotes performed, ( one quote/ person made an honest statement that he was not interested in the job, the siding was too much of a mess and he did not want to be involved with it.) Herb, the owner of Colony Construction made it a point to view our house & spent three hours with us/ on site discussing our options. He explained each step that would need to be taken throughout this project as well as explaining how & why our current siding is chipped, exposed nails, etc. Herb was honest with the quotes, and there was no pressure from him for us to chose his company for the siding. Currently this task is underconstruction. Thus far we are very pleased with this company. The little things that matter: a courtesy call by the owner of the buisness two days prior when the project will be started, workers show up on time every day, super job of clean up every day, hard workers / the real deal. Even though this was not a planned project, we feel confident that the end result will be amazing.

    Argon Windows & Home Improvements
Kyle showed up on time and talked me through the whole process and what I needed done. We had a couple of conversations during the contracting process, and the final contract incorporated everything that needed to be done. We had to wait a couple of months because the company has a backlog of work (a good sign), but I wanted the job done right, so it was worth the wait. The work crew showed up on time. They encountered some difficulties (not their fault) during the job, and they overcame them at no additional cost to us. Kyle was a real pleasure to work with. He listens well -- he is a true professional. He kept me in the loop through everything, and he personally made sure everything was done right.

    Total Home Improvements
After having a good experience with THI on my exterior work five years ago, I've always gone back to them to have other projects done. My experience with this company has been very positive.

The employees of THI are very courteous and professional.  They come on time and with a positive attitude.  The project managers that I worked with (I had the same person for two of my jobs and a different person for this latest huge remodel) were very knowledgeable of every aspect of the job.  They both did a good job scheduling all of the trades workers and keeping everything moving forward.  They both communicated very well with me and I always knew exactly who was coming, what they were coming to do, and when they would be there.  Did everything go exactly on schedule - well no.  I added several changes to the job, including gutting and redoing another bathroom at the last minute.  So we had to adjust time frames and expectations.  When we had a delay in the cabinet installation, due to my decision to rip out old plaster and replace with new drywall, Greg, the project manager worked swiftly and deliberately to catch us back up so we could finish as projected.

THI uses good sub contractors.  The floor, tile, electrical, and plumbing guys rocked.  They use small companies so there isn't a crew coming into your home.  The tile installer works alone.  The electrical company has two employees so the same two come every time and get to know your home electrical system well.  Same with the plumbers and floor installers.  I like that about THI.  Sure it isn't as fast sometimes as if a crew is sent in, but these trades people were truly professional, treating my house like their own.  I believe they did a better job than a bigger company would, and had more pride in their work.  To be honest, the owner of the dry wall company they used for my job was a bit rude, but Total Home Improvements quickly remedied that issue once I let them know.  All of the other sub-contractors were so very nice and professional and respectful.  I feel very fortunate to have met these fine craftsmen.

My experience with the sales representatives has also been very positive.  I used the same sales rep for two of my projects and he partnered with another sales rep on the major interior renovation they just finished.  They worked with me on the design and we made adjustments along the way.

I do not have any experience with the painters, however.  i have a painter that I have used for years (also works alone) so I opted to have him do the painting for my job.

Anyway, I am happy with all the choices I made throughout this renovation and with the work that Total Home Improvements did themselves or had done to make this reno happen.  It was complicated, removing walls and installing engineered beams, etc.  I worked at home throughout the whole reno, so I basically set up in one room.   My advice to anyone considering a renovation is to be very clear in what you want to have done and be very specific in your contract and understand the allowances, etc. in your contract and make adjustments if you need to. I marked mine up on a word document so I could be absolutely sure we were on the same page.  It took several revisions before we finalized the contract.   Also be realistic with your expectations and understand that there will be puts and takes along the way.  Material gets delayed; you make a change and things have to be redone.  Be patient and keep in constant contact with your project manager.  Understand that these people are human too.  The project manager may have a dozen jobs at any given time.

My tape measure broke the other day so I guess their work is done!  But if I have any other home improvements I have Total Home Improvements on my speed dial.  Seriously, it got frustrating at times - it was a 6 month major renovation after all.  But any frustration on my part was situational and the project manager was experiencing the same frustration.  Together we worked through any issues or decisions as they arose.

After the job was complete i'd say it was done pretty close to perfectly.  I have an old house and there's only so much you can do with an old house.  In my opinion Total Home Improvements did as much as could be done to maximize the footprint of my house, updating it from its 1970's look while maintaining the character of the home.

Thanks for reading my review.  I wish you luck in your home projects.

    Reynolds Exteriors Inc
After another bid came in at almost half their bid.  As it was still within the Federally mandated grace period, I rescinded.  They now tell me that it will take up to 6 weeks to refund my deposit. Apparently I am expected to float them a free loan, even though the contract was not active until the grace period had expired.  A questionable business practice at best.

A rare find. Will definitely call Jim for any project I need done on my home.  He's got three words on the side of his van; "RELIABLE, QUALITY, WORKMANSHIP."  Definite truth in advertising.  He arrived on time and had the work done when promised.  He not only pulled and replaced the rotted wood trim pieces, but installed drip edging where needed, so the wood won't rot in the future.  (Something the original builders failed to do.)  He also did a fabulous job on our back porch; put up soffit on the sides and ceiling.  Very detailed and professional work.  It looks amazing!  Jim definitely knows his trade and the right products to use for the job.  So refreshing to find someone with old school standards of workmanship and professionalism!

I can't say enough great things about Steve.  I am currently deployed and dealing with Steve from a distance has been as convenient as possible.  He has kept me informed and has worked closely with the person watching my house during this time.  I have seen numerous pictures and heard such positive things about his work.  I am BLOWN away by the pictures of the new door he installed.  The trim is unbelievable, it looks amazing!  The entire house looks fantastic.  Steve truly went above and beyond.  He noticed that our shutters were the wrong size and he took it upon himself to order us all new shutters, at no cost.  The siding on the house had gotten extremely dirty since leaving it months ago and Steve got a buddy of his to power wash it for us, at no cost.  I'm not sure if it is because Steve is prior military, or just a really great person, but he did all of this to make sure our house was looking good for our return.  I heard that Steve made sure everything was done right before moving on, was extremely knowledgeable about his craft, and has excellent advice and ideas.  Everyone who worked at the house was really nice and our house sitter said he would hire them all himself.  Steve also referred us to someone to install flooring and even brought him over to the house to get us a quote.  We also hired him (Morland?) and are very thankful for that referral as he did an excellent job!  Steve was quick to respond all around.  He was easy to get ahold of, he came out to the house quickly, and he got started quickly.  It is evident that he truly takes pride in his work and company.  Thank you so much Steve!

A friend of mine had referred me and after seeing the work I called right away.  We were professionally told he was unable to help with aluminum siding.  Then we were given a referral to someone who could do the work.  Thanks for the help and we'll be in contact about some doors.

    Robert Edwards Home Exteriors
“TERRIBLE!!!! The "uncle" Donald B Beach kept rushing the two workers.  The owner of this (fake) business, Robert Edwards, hurt his hand so I let him in to wash his hand and offered him an ice pack.  Then Donald Beach said everything was done (I wasn't outside the whole time... my fiance and I took turns staying outside, but then fiance had to go to work and I got distracted with the worker who (supposedly??) hurt his hand.)  They rushed off and I immediately called them to let them know they left without cleaning the gutters. A week past.  I was so angry after all my calls and texts went unanswered.  After a week of no response, I lost my temper and was not polite on the last voicemail I left.   Robert Edwards, the "owner" of this (FAKE) business, texted back claiming that his phone was broken for the previous few days and he would return the $50.00 for the gutter cleaning that was no done.  I apologized for losing my head, but had hoped he could see it from my view.... being overcharged by about $400, them rushing off without completing the work and not returning any calls or texts I made to them before they even got around the corner until a week later. Robert Edwards said he would return the $50.00 for "not performed" portion of work that day.  That was a week ago and no return of $$, no calls back.....nothing!!!
