    Stellar service! The two young gentlemen who cleaned the chimney could not have been any nicer or more professional. They did a thorough job from the inside and then proceeded up to the roof. It turns out that we need some major work done (flue replacement, brick work, new cap). This is a result of the age of our house and the earthquake this past year. What set these fellows apart from anyone we have worked with before was the videos they showed us which clearly indicated the damage that needed to be repaired. They had multiple shots of the different areas and were most patient in explaining in great detail what needed to be done and why. We could not think of a better company to do the work than American Professional Chimney and Masonry.Specialists. They ARE the ultimate professionals and specialists! Having nothing to do with chimney cleaning but showing you what kind of gentlemen they were: they knocked on the front door after going outside to go up on the roof and asked if we had a wire coat hanger. The UPS driver making a delivery next door had locked his keys in the truck and they wanted to help him out. You could not ask for better proof of character!

    Sixpenny Chimney Sweeps
    Purchased an Angie's List deal. Waited over a week and heard nothing from vendor. I called vendor and was told there was no record of the order or the payment despite my having received confirmation/redemption code from Angie's List. I then scheduled an appointment with an arrival time of between 9 a.m. and noon. No one called at any time to confirm appointment the day before or the day of appointment. At 11:00 a.m. the day of the appointment I called vendor to confirm they were indeed coming as my husband and I had scheduled the morning off from work. I was advised tech was just finishing up another job and would be on his way. An hour and a half later at 12:30 p.m. I called to see where the tech was and was advised the vendor would check and call me back. Received call back and was told that tech had to stop at Home Depot for a filter and would arrive in twenty minutes (which would be well over an hour beyond the appointment time). I waited another half hour and called back. While the phone was ringing the tech pulled up. I went to open the door and watched from our front door as he sat and checked his phone and then proceeded to make a phone call. When he finally came to the door he was all sweetness and light and asked my husband how he was doing, My husband replied not well as we had taken the morning off work and the tech was an hour and a half late. The tech made no apology. This made me angry and I told him I did not appreciate his sitting out in the truck on the phone when he was as late as he was. He shouted "Five seconds! I was on the phone for five seconds!" (Obviously using the same way of telling time as they do when making appointments.) I said we were mad with any further delay as we had been waiting all morning and he did not apologize or even acknowledge how late he was. He replied angrily that he did not need this so I told him fine, then just go. He shouted fine, he did not need our business as he slammed out the door. I let him know I would be letting Angie's List know which I have. I was surprised to see great reviews but then the surprise was mitigated by the last review being from last year. We can only assume something has not gone well with the company in the meantime. As long as you do not mind lost orders, lack of communication and total disregard for your own schedule, these people might work just fine for you.

The schedule has been appropriate for the work contracted and the results have exceeded our expectations.     We needed to have our chimney replaced from the roof up, including a new liner. The bricks were matched perfectly to the house and the job was completed quickly. We were selling our house and needed the work done before photos and the Chimney Doctor was wonderful in meeting our deadline, skipping a day when the movers where coming, and completing the job on time.

    In my opinion, today's experience with Potomac Services was incredibly disappointing. We brought them in to our home because we needed to have two chimneys cleaned. After the crew inspected our wood stoves, they informed us that they could not sweep the chimneys because "they are not code compliant" and told us we would have to purchase numerous upgrades (for many thousands of dollars) before they would sweep the chimneys. Now, I have read numerous code documents and regulations, and nowhere do they say chimney sweeping is prohibited under any circumstance. If anything, the law/code/regulation would probably prohibit USE of the wood stove if not in compliance, but usually the government leaves it up to the owner to decide whether or not they will accept that risk. But instead, Potomac Services wouldn't even clean our chimneys, so if we were to now light fires in our stoves, there is a heightened risk of a chimney fire. Many of the issues pointed out by the crew are valid issues, but the biggest complaint the crew leader seemed to have is that the stoves are "really old." That complaint, of course, was immediately followed by an offer to sell us new stoves. In the end, I did NOT buy any of the many additional services they offered. I really just wanted to get them out of our home. So, we ended up paying $250 for two chimney inspections, which took no more than like 20 minutes total (I wish I was paid at a rate of $750/hour), and we never even got the chimney cleaning we needed. This was incredibly disappointing.

    Perfectly. The technician was on time, polite, respectful, pleasant and articulate. He also resolved a few little problems with the gas fireplace that technicians from other companies either overlooked or couldn't fix. He was also efficient, neat and tidy. Will absolutely use Mammoth Services again!

    The tech called about 20 minutes before arrival and got to work immediately. He identified a couple of areas needing service and fixed them quickly and demonstrated how the gas fireplace was now running well. Very good and efficient.

    Well. Only issue was scheduling, as contractor wouldn't perform until it had additional work in area to justify a trip to Northern Virginia. I can understand from a business standpoint, but not from a customer standpoint.

    Winston's Chimney Service
    Fantastic! Several chimney companies reviewed my situation and made essentially the same recommendation. Since I've worked with Winston before on smaller projects over the years and their price was in the range of the other estimates, I chose to go with them. They began when they said they would, arrived each morning around 830am and worked hard all day. Winston worked with us to understand what kind of brick we wanted to use for the new chimney and brought about 5 different options most of which would have worked for us. After demolition, they rebuilt the new chimney with our chosen bricks. As a perfectionist, I can say the results are excellent! The chimney looks fantastic. We had no issues with cleanup or property damage. We had heavy rains this spring after the project was finished and the bricks started to absorb water. When I expressed concern about this, Winston came out to check. The technician explained the water barrier they added is semi-permeable to allow moisture to escape. After the long period of heavy rains we had, it would be expected that some water would soak in. None-the-less, once it dried out some, they applied another coat of the water barrier to ensure good protection in our shady, moist location. The final cost of the project was less than the original estimate. We're entirely pleased with our new chimney and the courteous, professional service we received from Winston's Chimney. Thank you to the whole team at Winston's, especially to Elmer Martinez and his crew for the great masonry work, Jeff Shear for excellent customer relations and Veronica Campbell for efficient scheduling and billing.
