Interior Painting reviews in Front Royal

A&P Builders came through after weeks of frustration meeting with other highly rated contractors. They were able to get a huge job on budget and and guided us through the process so that we could make everything work. We needed a full gut job, kitchen remodel, two new bathrooms, structural reinforcement and much more on an 1850 farm home. A&P came in on time & and budget & delivered our dream home when no one else in the area could. The owner Perry Leach is of the highest integrity & never cuts corners. We highly recommend A & P Builders!

House painting was excellent- got entire house painted in 4 days, did wall prep and paint multiple coats as needed. Deck work was done very well, matching materials, including worked the issue with the patio and yard slope, they added step to adjust for yard grade. Fencing contractor completed the work quickly and did great job connecting with existing fence and decks.

Great, we hope to use their services again in the future. Chris our GC listened to our wants and came up with a plan that was exactly what we wanted. Initially we wanted a 4 piece in our expanded master bath, but the space was too small to accommodate 4 pieces, we ended up with an extra large shower, duel sinks in a solid wood vaniety. Marble tile basket weave floor and a subway tile shower with a marble accent piece. Both baths were redone using the same marble tile flooring and subway tile. The hall bath, all components were replaced with no changes to foot print of the existing bath. Our workers Alan and Craig were outstanding craftsmen with great attention to detail. They came from Charleston with restoration experience. A few minor issues required the guys to come back and repair some cracked and chipped tile during installation, with no complaints or extra charges in cost. Sidney Enterprises comes highly recommended by us.

Joey was prompt at giving a reasonable estimate for the work and flexible on modifications to the job.  He and his team arrived on time every day and were professional and courteous.  They did quality work in a good time frame.  In two days, the job was completed and clean up was very good.  All-in-all a good experience.

They responded to an ad I had and it was initially very nice, and he said he would be doing the work. On the day he came out, he brought somebody else out with him and made a big mess. He also did not finish the work so I fired him. He didn't use a drop cloth and then he fell off the ladder and spilled paint all over my new tile.

For some time we had been looking for someone to build an addition on our 100 year old home. Several contractors were intimidated by what we were wanting to have done. I contacted Brian with Done Right Home Improvements & Repairs. He came out to look at our home, he said it WAS possible to do what we had in mind. He took our ideas and incorporated them with his ideas and building knowledge to create a personal design just for us.  He was very easy to work with, gave us a great price, and left us with a beautiful new dining area and Master Bath...We love the extra room our addition has given us.

We had intended on doing the work ourselves, but time became an issue, so we knew we needed a handyman. From the beginning, Mike Whitlow and Gary Boyd were professional with the cost and time estimate. They fit us into their busy schedule and bailed us out big time. Being able to do many jobs myself is not always the best answer. My time and efforts are often times better used in other areas. When that is the case you want the work you have hired out to be done, right, on time and in a cost-effective way. Vet builders was spot on in all areas, even when we had miscalculated the amount of flooring, paint and moulding we had already purchase. Thankfully the extra materials were in stock and the handyman job was done to my expectations. Vetbuilders met and exceeded all my expectations.

Andy had a crew out the week after I accepted the bid. The painter were courteous, and professional. They did an awesome job and I am very picky about making sure the lines are sharp between the walls and the ceiling. I would definitely hire them again

Excellent job. Surpassed our expectations. Dave and his crew are truly professionals. Our home now looks better on the outside than when it was new in April of 2000.  Dave did such a great job that we are now hiring him to complete the interior of our home to give it a custom look.  Biggest difference between Dave and other painters is his attention to detail and the personal pride he takes in his work. Most highly recommended. Will never call another painter.

The workmanship and quality of the "finished" product was absolutely terrible.  In fact, we fired Farmer's Construction Services due to noncompliance with the contract.  Specifically,  the shower stall leaked profusely into the sub-floor and crawl space due to lack of a proper (to code) shower pan liner and insufficient slope to the shower drain.   Not only did the shower pan floor leak like a rusty bucket, standing water remained in the corner of the shower and never drained.   Moreover, according to the Virginia State Housing Code, 2" PVC shower drain pipe is required for a shower drain, yet Farmer's Construction used 1-3/4 " pipe.

No shower pan liner was used under the mortared tile, as required under the Virginia housing code.  To stem the leak, the contractor used foam sealant in the joists under the shower to seal in the leaking water.   We state these facts honestly and accurately having had the work reviewed and assessed by an experience and licensed plumber. Other examples of non-compliance with contract terms or violations of homeowner trust are:

    1. Placing photos of our home on his personal Facebook page without our approval.   While not giving our name, he quoted what we thought were private emails, inviting his friends to comment on issues we had raised.
    2. Entering our home and removing materials on at least 2 occasions when we were not at home, with no advance notice or permission.  In other words, outside of the agreed working hours in our home, Farmer's Construction Services (Andrew Farmer) entered our home while we were out.
    3. Improperly sealed joints between walls/ceiling.
    4. Lack of proper cleanup (we repeatedly had to haul trash away ourselves; pick up soda cans, food wrappers, used chewing tobacco, etc.)   We are still finding in shrubs and on our lawn Styrofoam peanuts which Farmer's Construction Services dumped onto our front porch.
    5. Chronic forgetfulness - external entrances to crawl spaces and ceiling entrances to attic were routinely left open to the elements after repeated requests that they be closed before he left the premises.  Hoses were not turned off as requested.
    6. Bathroom door was hung backward and had to be rehung.
    7. Tiled accent wall did not conform to an agreed and detailed drawing and had to be ripped off the wall and redone.
    8. Plumbing lines were sealed off with drywall prior to testing the plumbing.
    9. Towel hooks were hung noticeably crooked.
    10.  Overall materials management including tracking of back-ordered plumbing fixtures was negligent.
    11.  Carpentry mistakes and mismatched wood trim were masked with cheap wood filler.
    12.  Two of his assistants (hired by him) had to ultimately be fired by him for their lack of skill and unreliability.
    13.  Glaring mistakes in the work of Farmer's Construction Services had to be brought to his attention (paint on floor;  gaps in grout;  stain on tile;  nail holes in molding, trim pieces not mitered neatly and gouges in woodwork. ) In more than one instance, Farmer's Construction Services flatly refused to correct the sloppy and amateurish work performed.
    14.  His electrical contractor's work resulted in loss of power for 3 days in 3 rooms of our home and we had to hire our own qualified electrician to fix the shoddy work.
To correct the very poor work performed by Farmer's Construction Services, we had to have wallboard ripped out, plumbing errors fixed and have the entire shower pan torn up and re-installed properly.
In summary, we deeply regret ever having employed Farmer's Construction Services.

    UPDATE (based on contractor's comments)
As per Mr. Farmer's comments, we note that he doesn't dispute the following facts:
    1. His plumbing was very poor and leaked.  He does not dispute the fact that both the installation of fixtures and also the shower pan floor were substandard and leaked.   He does not dispute that his work was not up to VA Housing code and had to be ripped out and re-installed correctly by a professional.    A licensed plumber said the shower pan floor installation violated VA Housing Code in 3 major ways.   It isn't a matter of the homeowner knowing what we wanted -- Mr. Farmer lacks the skills, the competency and the know-how to install a bathroom.
    2. We (homeowners) knew exactly what we wanted -- we actually drew pictures!   It was Mr. Farmer who seemingly cannot follow written or verbal instructions and who installed a door backwards;  Mr. Farmer forgot to install a shower bench;  Mr. Farmer had to tear out his own work on a tile accent wall when he didn't follow our detailed drawing.
    3.    He does not dispute that  attic and crawl space openings routinely left open, hoses left running.  Even his sloppy tobacco spittle was left in a bucket in our home along with his lunch trash.  It was like cleaning up after a teenager.  His attitude to feedback from us was sullen and immature.
    4. Again and most importantly (worse than the poor plumbing)  Mr. Andrew Farmer entered our home on two documented occasions without our permission in the evening when we were not home and without asking permission (it is recorded on our security system camera).     He also posted photos of our home on his personal facebook page without our permission.
