Renewal by Andersen of Virginia & Washington DC
I highly recommend contacting Ed Richardson at edward.richardson@andersencorp.com . He spent half a day taking measurements & making sure I knew what my options were. The installation team worked like clockwork together, with attention to every detail they really took pride in their work. This is an old house so replacement windows was not going to be easy. Everyone we dealt with through the process was not only very professional, but also showed concern for us & ensuring this old house will keep us warm for many more Blue Ridge winters. I love our new windows & I really love the new gliding door to the deck.

PJ is a nice guy and genuinely wanted us to be happy with his work. That said, it would have been helpful if he had actually drawn up plans and gone over them with us, working out details, before beginning the job. We also would recommend that demolition not begin until all necessary materials to complete the job have been purchased and all important materials are actually in his possession. Our estimated five week job ended up taking more than two and a half months - all that time without a usable bathroom! In fairness, much of the delay was not PJ's fault - but by the time we got to the last stages of the job, he was feeling rushed to complete it and we were just ready to have it done. As a result, we compromised on several issues and the end result was a bathroom that looked good, but was not what we had really wanted. I would also recommend that PJ either better train or monitor the young men he had doing the demolition work. Although they were friendly and polite, they managed to poke a hole in the wallboard of the adjacent room while tearing down the bathroom walls. They also were careless in dumping debris out the window - some of it landing on one of our shrubs, essentially destroying it. PJ repaired the damaged wall and we didn't even tell him about the shrub, but it left us feeling like we had let some people into our home who were careless with our home. On the other hand, Ernest, the man PJ had do the tile work for us, did a beautiful job and was consistently responsive, polite and professional.

NEW LOOK KITCHEN & BATH CO
We were extremely happy with the end result--both bathrooms are beautiful and the kitchen, with Kelley's vision and product, is much more functional and is now a focal point of our home. Kelley was patient when I changed my mind and wanted bolder tiles in the hall bath. Also, I had Kelley price a set of kitchen cabinets with beautiful glass doors, after we had designed the kitchen. I wanted something special, and she indulged me. She gave me a price, and we ordered the cabinets to be installed. When they came in, the price on them was much higher than she had quoted, but she immediately stood behind her original quote and that's the price we paid. I greatly appreciate this type of practice--people who keep their word like this are the ones I am loyal to. We had an issue a few years after the project, and Kelley sent someone out to take care of it for us immediately.
The work is quality, the designs are phenomenal. I would highly recommend Kelley and NLKB!

I was happy with their construction practices and their professionalism the first time. Most recently, I wanted them to repaint the doors and they never followed through with that.  I went in to talked to the owner and no one still ever got back to me.

Overall we were very happy with their services.  They were easy to contact and I did not need to leave messages with them hoping they would call back as is the case with many contractors. They arrived on time at house for the estimate, very polite, answered all our questions, very professional and helpful.  Within a few days, we received an estimate.  We accepted the estimate and they immediately ordered our new door and window.  They then called us to arrange a date to do the installation.  They kept us updated at all times and were very efficient.  On the installation date, they again showed up on time and did an excellent job installing the door and window.  We had absolutely no problems or complaints about them.  Every member of their staff was very polite, friendly, and professional.  Our window and door look great.  We will definitely use them again and recommend them.

    Tom Hanger Home Improvement
What are some of the characteristics of a great company?
    1)  Honesty
    2)  Punctuality
    3)  Respect
    4)  Pride in their work
    5)  Quality
    6)  Happy customers
    7)  Follow-through

Having dealt with Tom Hanger Home Improvement for our recentwork, I can honestly and happily say that they possess these qualities and more.
I?d come to Angie?s List to find some potential contractors to discuss a window replacement as well as some gutter and fascia/soffit
wrapping that was long overdue.  The first company I called was Tom Hanger. Rick was extremely diligent about getting back to me and came out the following day to evaluate my home.
Rick sat down with me and explained not only his corporate philosophy, but his company background (Why a guy named Rick owns a company called ?Tom Hanger,? for example)  and detailed descriptions on each of the vendors products they represent.  After our conversation and a few short measurements he was back in the truck and within an hour I had a quote in my email inbox.  Seriously, it was that fast.
Here?s where they really set themselves apart.  Rick was the first person I?d spoken to about my home improvement project.  Could he really have the best product, solution, total pricing, and service of all the contractors available to me?  I never get that lucky.  So, I decided it was a prudent maneuver to get a second opinion.  Or, seven second opinions.
I?d told myself I?d only talk to three contractors.  Unfortunately I spoke to SEVEN other contractors who, for varying reasons and to varying degrees, only served to solidify the fact that Tom Hanger Home Improvement was the clear choice for my project.  From missed appointments to cocky salespeople, from astronomical prices for features that seemed as fictional as a Power Ranger to having my intelligence insulted?Rick?s competition makes him look GOOD.  The kicker is, though, he doesn?t need them to look good, his company stands alone at the top of the heap.
I called Rick to invite him out to get started and sign a contract, pick up a check, the usual.  He called me back and we went over the estimate for?30 seconds.  I said I wanted to proceed and he said ?Great!?   No fuss, no muss, just a couple gentlemen agreeing to do business.  And do business they did.
One week ( ONE WEEK!?) later the window crew showed up at my house ready to go at 7AM.  The windows were in within 3 hours, caulked, and the cleanup was under way.  The team was fast, professional, ENGLISH speaking, and courteous.  The horror stories other vendors had told (FUD slinging) had of course NOT come to pass, and if you didn?t notice my new windows you?d have no idea I even had a contractor there.  Seriously?impressed.
The following day the siding crew was there and ready to roll.  This project was significantly harder since they were wrapping each and every piece of trim on my house.  No more painting!  Tom Hanger Home Improvement represents a unique line of trim wrap that REALLY sets the house apart.  Both of my neighbors had their trim wrapped previously and one of them is considering tearing it OFF to have Tom Hanger come do his.  It?s that distinctive.
Both crews were tremendous, really?truly, words in this case fail to do them justice.  Excellent craftsmanship coupled with professionalism and friendly employees amount to a formula for success, and they really have it mastered.
My neighbors constantly stop by my house to tell me how good it looks and ask who performed the service.
My house went from ?in need of love? to popping out and looking like loving homeowners live there as opposed to squatting homeless.  I have Rick and his crew to thank.
The price for these services, incidentally, was the lowest of the bids I received.  I struggled with the possibility that corners were going to be cut, or that I?d received an inferior product or service.  I received neither and can state unequivocally that Rick?s pricing stems from a desire to serve and earn your business, not retire on your dime.

I recommend, without hesitation, that anyone looking for roof, window, siding, trim, or gutter replacement services contact Rick at Tom Hanger Home Improvement without delay.  Feel free to compare him to his competition, but you will likely find it the same waste of time I did.  Once you?ve met Rick, everyone else just looks ordinary.

It went very well.  It took the installers about 6 or 7 hours and they did an excellent job.  They even reinstalled the old screen door on the outside of the new door.  The screen door no longer fit the new frame so they cut dow the screen door and custom fit it to the new frame.  All of this was not included in the contract, but they did it anyway with no extra charge to me.
They cleaned up completely and left the place cleaner than when they started.

    Renovation Concepts
PJ of Renovation Concepts is terrific and does excellent work. He has completed multiple jobs for me, and they always turn out exactly how I imagine them. PJ is very responsive and will work closely with you to make sure you get exactly what you ask for. Quality is excellent, and just as important, PJ's is someone you can trust to get the job done correctly and on time. His craftsmanship is of a very high quality: the built-in bookshelves, bathroom, and porch he did for me are amazing to see (they were very run down but PJ did an amazing transformation). He has helped get my 62 year old run down home looking back the way it should. He was always very patient with my multitude of questions and offered alternative solutions if he thought something might not work the way I imagined. He was also conscious of my budget and worked with me to stay within it. I will definitely want PJ to do the rest of my remodeling work.

    Buracker Construction
The Buracker guys showed up early (which was appreciated) and were friendly from the start. Putting up new trim was not originally agreed upon, but when they saw my old trim would not match up correctly after they finished re-installing the front door frame, they offered to put up new trim on the spot. They were not going to charge me for installing the new trim, but I insisted I pay them an extra $20 (so my original quote was only $350). Mr. Buracker even gave me, a single young female new homeowner, some tips on how to fix little odd and ends around the house. Mr. Buracker and his co-worker were extremely professional and courteous during the entire installation. I felt very comfortable around them and appreciated how they explained why and what they were doing during the various steps of the job. At the end, they cleaned up and removed all debris. I highly recommend this company and will definitely call on them again for any home repair projects!
