Countertop Installation reviews in Fishersville

    Modern Boy Woodshop
Paul Borzelleca (Modern Boy Woodshop) and his crew were horrible!  During the first attempt at installing the countertops, they tried to make the "L" shaped portion of the countertop fit in the space, even though it was a little too long.  In doing so, they scratched/gouged our $1,200 oven cabinet to a point that can not be repaired AND pushed the end cabinets (oven and refrigerator) away from adjacent cabinets and out of square.  Paul and his crew also set the countertops before setting our farmhouse sink, and when they realized that they could not get the sink to fit, cut a large, jagged hole in our $600 sink base cabinet to give them enough room to install the sink.  Paul did return to trim the countertops, which allowed us to re-align and re-attach our oven and refrigerator cabinets to the adjacent cabinets, but this did not change the fact that the oven cabinet and sink base cabinet were butchered beyond repair.  Paul subsequently attempted to fix the sink base cabinet, but the paint he used is not an exact match in color of finish.  He has done nothing to remedy the scratched/gouged oven cabinet, though we have brought this to his attention several times.
In addition to the horrible installation job, the "end" product we were left with with also sub-par.  The slab on our island has a large chip in the side, and the backsplash pieces provided by Paul are full of scratches, and have varied heights and thicknesses.  And, as if this wasn't enough, a large mineral vein (one of only two in the entire "L" shaped portion of the countertop) "dead ends" right into a seam in the slabs and looks horrendous!  Had he and his crew simply thought through the process a little more before fabrication, this could have easily been avoided.  When we brought the seam to his attention, Paul claimed that this was only an "aesthetic" issue, before later admitting that he wouldn't be happy with a similar installation in his own home.  We consulted with another local installer who agreed that what Paul and his crew had done with the mineral vein and seam was a major "no no" in their industry.
To date, Paul has done nothing to address our complaints (aside from his attempt to fix the sink base cabinet).  In building our new home, we served as our own general contractor and directly engaged 25+ different subcontractors for various projects.  On the few occasions that something was not to our satisfaction, other contractors addressed the issues and corrected them in a timely manner.  Paul claims to have fulfilled his end of the bargain simply because he and his crew installed the amount of soapstone for which he was hired, without even considering the fact that the the quality of his work is poor and that we as homeowners are worse off now than we were before he stepped foot inside our home.  To that end, he has only offered to take a few hundred dollars off of our bill!
This is the first time we have ever been compelled write a review such as this.  We were hoping that we could upload pictures of Paul's work and the damages done to our cabinets as part of this review so that readers could get a true sense of the degree of incompetence present in Paul's work.  Beware of Paul Borzelleca/Modern Boy Woodshop!  With sub-par quality and an unwillingness to stand by his work, hiring him would be a huge mistake!
