The night before we brought our car in for the inspection we checked all the lights and everything was working properly.

We were a little suspicious because previously they failed lights on our daughters car which had passed previously with someone else, and it cost us over $100 dollars for them to correct the lights so it would pass.

Well, 25 minutes into the inspection they came to us and said it needed a brake light bulb at a cost of $20.dollars, we argued with them that they we working the night before. They took us to the work area and showed us a burnt bulb and showed the light wasn't working.  In order to complete the inspection we had no choice but to agree to the $20 for a new bulb.  During this exchange I asked if the oil change had been done yet and was told yes.

So, about 15 minutes later our car was ready and after we checked the car found that the casing for the break light was left unclosed with the wires hanging out.

After we got home I checked the oil and it didn't look clean to me like it had been changed. So I'm not so sure it was really changed.

We drove by TLC and saw a sign for an oil change special for $19.95.

We stopped in and asked about the special and the person at the desk said that the special is just an oil change no

    additional checks are done.

We said ok and that the oil change is all we want.

They were very courteous and took the car in after about 10 minutes.

While sitting in the waiting room we noticed the mechanic was inside the passenger side looking at something.

After about 30 minutes of waiting the person at the counter went in the work area and came back with our air and cabin filters to show us that they were dirty and needed changing and quoted us a price of about $80. He also told us they checked all of our fluids and they checked out ok. The cabin filter was indeed very dirty, but I could easily change that with a new one myself for about $15. The Air filter was recently changed and not really dirty. So we declined the filter changes and after paying the $20 went on our way.

So, everything went ok, but beware while they are changing your oil they are looking for other things that they can make money on.

We Moved here late July 2012 and Carvers was recommended to us by one of the neighbors.

We brought our car and our daughters car in for an oil change and inspection on separate days but the experience was similar   both times.

It was first come first serve so we had to bring the cars in around 8:00am.

The waiting room is tiny but adequate. We waited about 45 minutes to an hour.

The mechanics were very professional and courteous and explained any issues in details.

They were honest and didn't try to sell us anything.

    Co-Op Service Center
I brought my 2000 Tundra into this service center for a brake inspection. They noticed other issues and decided to give the truck a full once over safety inspection. They identified an estimated $4200 in work that needed to be done immediately or on the near term horizon. The biggest proposed expense was replacing the rear assembly, which they claimed had rusted through in the differential casing causing it to leak gear oil. They said not to drive the truck because there were too many safety issues. I carefully took the vehicle home and found that the only thing wrong with the rear assembly was that the fill bolt needed to be tightened. Have been driving the vehicle for 1000 miles now and haven't lost a drop of oil. There is NO sign of anything more than surface rust on the assembly. They also claimed I needed a front brake job. I took my wheels off this morning, and there is over 1/4 inch of pad remaining and the rotors look fine. They claimed my tires were so bald that they weren't worth rotating, but there is enough tread that they will pass State inspection this fall. Soon enough they will need replacing, but they overstated the urgency. I thought this shop would be less likely than others to suggest unnecessary service since it is organized as a co-op. I'm a co-op member, but will never get my vehicles worked on at this service station. Very disappointing.

    Troutville Automotive
I try to service my vehicles, and son's vehicles around the first of the year and in June.  Troutville Auto is exceptional in working with us in getting one vehicle in and another out.  These are both personal and business vehicles.  The work is quick, dependable and reasonable.  I give them my highest recommendation.

    Salem Import Services
We had taken our 2007 Passat in to the dealership twice to diagnose a and quot;check engineand quot; light problem. They were unable to find the problem and suggested we replace the fuel injectors and that possibly it had a bad cylinder. They goofed around with the spark plugs, bending the connections and replaced all the coils. We did not have any other work done. After inspecting the work, my husband felt it was shabby and would not take the car back there for anything.
We drove the car for a couple more months with the and quot;Check Engineand quot; indicator on, the car was running rough. We finally took it to Salem Imports based on our daughter's good experience there with her 1999 Jetta. We dropped the car off and Mark phoned my husband with his findings within the next day or two. We had the PCV valve replaced and had the car back within 4-5 days.
The car ran much better and the cost of repairs was very reasonable. The and quot;check engineand quot; light did come on again and my husband drove it over to Mark one morning where he immediately ran the codes. Nothing came up as wrong, so we've changed the gas we use and it seems to be better again.
Based on our experience, we trust Mark with our car repairs. My husband is able to do some car repairs himself, but when the repairs are beyond his ability, we will definitely ask Salem Imports to do the work.
