I decided that I wanted to celebrate my 50th Birthday Party in my home here in Fredericksburg, Virginia.  I was going to invite family and friends from all over to celebrate this event.  I thought about a local restaurant, but the logistics of having almost 20 people for dinner wasn't the same as having everyone in my home with no timelines and having the event catered.  I tried in vain to locate a catering service with an excellent reputation, but failed to find such here in this area.  I decided to use Angie's List and there with high grades and with excellent write-ups was Green Sage Kitchen & Catering.  I went on to contact Green Sage, Executive Chef Katie Musser, who from the first phone call to the last chat and paying the reminder of my balance, was one of the most professional service providers I have ever come across and I've been in the customer service arena for over 30 years.  We immediately set on a date and in a few days I received a draft menu.  We went back and forth a few times until we had a solid menu which included Passed Canapé Options, Main Buffet Options with Sides, my chosen birthday cake, and she even went as far as including a complementary Vegetarian Dish for my daughter, who was going to be joining us from college and it was a total surprise to her.  In the weeks leading to the event, Katie maintained in close communication, updating the menu and making adjustments all around to include making arrangements for rental equipment, which in this area, was a total challenge for her.  Once we had a solid menu and all arrangements were in place for the rental, Murphy?s Law dictated last minute changes, which Katie handled in a seamless matter.
On the day of the event, Katie was here bright and early, and her selected assigned Server (Carlos), who by the way, was excellent himself, took over my kitchen and I have to tell you that the event was flawless, I kept checking on them and they had everything under control, from passing out the hors d?oeuvres, to the drinks, to the main dinner, to the cutting of the cake, my family and friends were amazed on the superior service and attention they all received, from the youngest to the oldest, seamless and exciting.  The food, which Katie prepared from scratch, was excellent, delicious and nutritious :)  The cake...OMG the best cake I've ever tasted (Coconut Cake with Bavarian Cream filling - my choice) was beyond describable.  BTW I?m already planning on having Katie prepare another cake for my son?s birthday this summer.  I cannot say enough of the outpouring compliments and positive comments received from everyone for Katie and Carlos.  The timing of everything, even the birthday Champagne toast was timed perfectly.  The most amazing thing yet was that Katie left my kitchen spotless, just as it was when she arrived.  She washed and wiped down everything and when I mean everything, I mean everything was secured exactly the way I had it.  They moved all tables to their original position and moved all rental equipment back into the garage for pickup that following Monday.
What else can I say but simply amazing!  I would recommend Katie to everyone and anyone ? for any event, period.  She is very humble and professional and would be an invaluable person to any event, big or small.
I am planning on using Katie in the very near future as there aren't any reputable catering services in the Fredericksburg area ? trust me.

I visited Mason-Dixon for the first time for lunch. I started out with the Soup of the Day - which was borscht on the day I visited. It was out of this world ? which may sound exaggerated for a soup made of the lowly beet. But it was THAT good.  It was chock full of fresh (not canned) beets, carrots, onions, diced chicken and homemade sour cream. BRAVO!  It also came with spectacular cornbread to crumble into the soup or eat separately.  For my entrée, I chose The Best Ever Meatloaf from a very extensive menu.  It was the best ever.  Mason-Dixon's owners strive for comfort food and have achieved it. The nice young lady who attended my table was superbly solicitous ? cheerful, low key but always accessible. My wife and I have a new favorite Fredericksburg restaurant based on my first visit.

One of the things you should know about the place is their 10% discount for Police, Firemen and Military with IDs. Show your ID before ordering!  Such a policy is a great good deed that speaks well of the owners and the qualities that shine through in the food they serve and in the pleasant attitudes & great efficiency of all the folks in Mason-Dixon. My wife and I think Mason-Dixon adds wonderful flavors to the Fredericksburg dining experience. And... it's worth driving quite a distance to come and enjoy.  See their website to learn more.

George and Diane were very professional.  We had sampled the food in advance and chosen the items we wished.  The quality was as excellent at the buffet as that which we sampled months prior.  George and Diane and their staff made the occasion go very smoothly. I thought so much of their work that I searched a way to make this review on Angie's List.  Thanks so much George and Diane. I highly recommend them to all that are looking for caterers in the Fredericksburg area!

I recently stumbled into Nancy's Custom Desserts by accident. Located just off Rte 3 & Old Plank Rd, it is absolutely worth the visit. . I was nearby, stopped in and carried out a savory breakfast pastie for the next morning. It was out of this world. The buttery crust was something that told me Nancy was an old school pastry chef - an artisan.  I vowed to go back for more, and did -- buying a good sampling of sweet and savory items. I also got to know a bit about Nancy and her wonderful little enterprise on this second visit. Nancy proudly dresses the part, as you can see on her very professional web site. www.nancysdesserts.com . The bakery is a bee hive of activity. Yummy products, fresh from the oven, are professionally displayed & ready for you to purchase them. If gluten free is what you want, Nancy has a large assortment of those too. Her menu of custom made/special order items is extensive.  She has fresh coffee, a small table for eat-in... and a super cheerful smile and attitude about everything. She's a consummate pro & good person! And no, I don't know Nancy, never met her before, but now consider her a local Fredericksburg entrepreneurial Treasure!
Give Nancy's Custom Desserts a try. The hardest part is deciding: Sweet or Savory. Savory or Sweet. Her savory meat pasties, spanakopita, stromboli, quiche, pot pies and the like are délicieuse.  But then the fruit tarts, scones, cookies, muffins etc are to dream. She's taking orders for the Holidays - or for your special occasion. I plan to put mine in. Don't delay!
