Medical Specialist reviews in Earlysville

The office environment and the staff are very nice. I really like my primary care physician there. She was rated as one of the best doctors in the United States so we only ought to like her. But I see other people in the practice too and they all seem fine. She's just nice and accurate. When we're going in with a problem, she figures out what it is.  If I have anything urgent, I can get in pretty quickly. Her bedside manner is really good.

So happy with these providers. They understood my complaints about my previous practitioner, took a thorough history and labs, and their follow-ups have been terrific. They discovered a minor but chronic thyroid problem that is now being resolved. Their attention to blood test results is exemplary, and they took the time to explain the pluses and minuses of suggested treatment options. It's a collaborative relationship that is greatly appreciated and I now think my health is in the right, caring, hands. Highly recommend.

I have mixed feelings about this practice. Years ago, when I first started being seen there, there were three core doctors along with a few second level providers (NPs and PAs). Back then, I received excellent care and was very happy with the practice over all. Since then, the practice has struggled to keep doctors there. There has been a high degree of turnover and the practice has suffered as a result. I see one of the original providers (Dr. Marotta) and find him to be a very good doctor. He is very thorough, listens closely to patients, explains things well, but he is not always available. My sense is that he will become even less available as times goes on, as he gets older and nears retirement. I am going to continue to go there but I take my children to another provider, as they need to be seen much more often than I do.

We have taken our children to Dr. Gelburd for over five years now. His style of medicine is different than most. His vaccination schedule, for instance, differs than most. He schedules a single vaccine at a time and has you return a month later for a nurse appointment (no charge) for the others. He also focuses a lot on nutrition and alternative therapies. That being said, he is still pretty conservative. He has referred my children to specialists at UVa. for screening/testing for things uncovered during visits there.
It can be hard to get an appointment at times but this seems to be the case at lots of places these days. I have never felt that my kids received sub-standard care as a result, though. The few times my kids have had a bona fide emergency, Dr. Gelburd has squeezed them in.
