    HIVEX Basement Finishing Co.
We received a flyer in the mail from Hivex Basements and after our free consultation decided to hire them to finish our basement. We are very happy we did. Our project manager, Chris, was awesome. He walked us through each step and wrote notes on the basement floor in red magic marker for his various work crews. Each work crew was very friendly and professional. Chris went shopping with me for things such as flooring, bathroom fixtures, etc. I really appreciated his knowledge and advice regarding things I was selecting. The basement is beautiful and I have aleady told three neighbors about them.

    Easy Renovations
Outstanding job!! After a tree destroyed a large section of our home, Kayla and her crew from Easy Renovations were able to repair everything!! After being displaced for 6 months, we returned to a beautiful home!! The most impressive thing about this company is Kayla's attention to detail and her expertise in all aspects of the construction business. We are lucky to have found a company that we can now use for any future home improvement!!

    HIVEX Basement Finishing Co.
After receiving bids from multiple general contractors I learned quickly HIVEX was the way to go. While general contractors sub most of their work out, HIVEX employs their own certified plumbers and electricians. They also employ their own framing and drywall guys. This is where they undercut all general contractors. Even after utilizing my own paint and flooring guy HIVEX literally saved me $5000 from the next lowest general contractor bid. They pulled all my permits and I received copies of my final inspection. They also guarantee their work for life! I had multiple projects going on at the same time. I can easily say the basement (my biggest project) went the smoothest. I wish there were more companies like HIVEX to do other projects around my house!

    J&T Home Design
J&T Home Design ripped out the old 1980's florescent-tube lighting in my kitchen. They replaced it with a tray ceiling and new recessed lighting. They then installed decorative rings on the recessed lights. The new lighting has a dimmer switch. The kitchen has never looked brighter and I couldn't be happier with the end result.

    Abby Construction Co Inc
We purchased a home in 1994 that had a slightly sagging 8 X 14' concrete porch extension. Through the years, this had settled to the point of twisting the overhanging roof structure. After calling three different contractors on Angie's List, I received three different and confusing recommendations. Contacting the county for advice, they recommended hiring an engineer. I did that, and he recommended helical piers be used and further recommended Abby Construction Company in Fredericksburg, VA. I contacted them, and the president of the company, Mike Huie visited my home. I liked him immediately! He looked at the porch and confirmed that helical piers would be the best solution. Although the price was higher than my highest previous estimate, it was the only proven solution that would fix the problem. The math, science, and engineering spoke for itself and would prove to be the best option. Once the county permits were completed, Abby Construction began work. They removed the concrete porch and inspected the footers. The footers were in good shape, but the underlying soil was basically "fill." They ended up having to go down 26' before hitting the resistance necessary to carry the overhead load of the concrete porch and the overhanging roof structure. Abby Construction installed three piers, carefully jacked the porch footer into position to match the builder installed porch footer, installed necessary reinforcing bars, built the forms, and poured a tremendous looking new porch extension. It looks great! I am so pleased that we had hired Abby Construction Company to provide their solution. If I had hired anyone else, their solution would NOT have fixed the settling concrete, and the porch would eventually settle again. This will be a permanent solution to my problem. If I had to do this kind of project again, I would call Abby Construction Company to do the work.

    SNR Design and Build LLC
Working with SNR Design and Build was SUCH A GREAT EXPERIENCE! Stan Riffle is the contractor. I had heard nightmares from my friends and neighbors regarding general contractors an was nervous about taking the plunge in working with someone to finish my basement. I found Stan on Angie's List with an A rating. He was extremely prompt in responding to my initial inquiry to finish the basement and made a timely appointment to walk through the space with me. I had an idea of what I wanted to do, but appreciated how Stan worked with me to solidify my ideas, sometimes telling me why something would not work and following up with an idea of what would. You could see that with his robust experience he knew what would and would not be successful. I liked that Stan always kept in mind the cost and end goal of finishing the basement. He realized I was on a budget and would discourage me from anything that would detract from my goal. We drew up a plan together. Stan was excellent in his communication. I knew what was happening and when. He also would pick up items from Lowe's when necessary. I could call/text him anytime and he was at my house almost every single day supervising the work. He was constantly checking in. He always insisted on attention to detail and the space was left clean at the end of every day. He was a true partner throughout the process. Let me tell you... THE BASEMENT IS GORGEOUS! Stan has two men that do the work- Charlie and Ramon. I can't compliment them highly enough. They were awesome! They arrived promptly every morning (M-F) between 7am and 8am, then worked all day. I could tell they were not taking any short-cuts. The quality of work was fantastic. They were so polite and I never worried about leaving them in my house alone. Total trust. There was clear daily progress and so exciting to see the basement transform. I even had them do a few extra projects in the rest of the house while they were here. You would be very happy with Ramon and Charlie's work! All of my neighbors and visiting family have been so impressed at the final job. The basement was finished AHEAD OF SCHEDULE and AT COST. I had added some things along the way and it was always very clear how that would impact my budget. Even with my upgrade and change requests, they were still finished well ahead of schedule. We passed inspection with flying colors. Even after the basement was completed and SNR Design had moved on to the next project, Stan was still instrumental in helping me with another issue with a separate contractor. Stan does not do wood stairs and had recommended another person. There was an issue with the job and even though he was under NO obligation to help me, he was my bulldog to ensure that the job was done to perfection. My friends with negative experiences could not believe how smoothly everything went for me! I would highly recommend SNR Design and Build, Stan, Ramon and Charlie. - Dea

    H Martinez Contracting LLC

Before work was started Mr. Martinez said it would cost an additional $700 over the coupon price to cover the removal due to the weight and rebar that had to be removed. When I suggested that was an expected part of the coupon he said it wasn't, and that the price offered in the coupon wasn't nearly enough for him to cover his costs. I asked for a written itemized contract and a copy of the year long guarantee that he mentioned so we could review and discuss. His work team showed up unexpectedly within a day of that conversation and left a note saying they'd return that Saturday or next available appointment. I called Mr. Martinez and left messages at both numbers requesting that he contact me immediately before another step was taken. No response that entire weekend. On Monday morning, Apr 4th before 8am, I think I hear the normal garbage truck pickup, but when I notice the sound keeps repeating, I look out to see a work truck and realize what I was hearing was a jackhammer. By the time I got dressed and to the door the front slab was halfway through demolished. I moved my car from the driveway to protect it from the flying pieces of concrete, and came into the house immediately to contact Mr. Martinez, again with no success. I have finally left a message via the Angie's message box asking him for the written contract which I've yet to receive. Apparently he tried to send me something through as an attachment but I received nothing. I replied to his message within the hour according to timestamps and advised that I did not get the attachment, and once again gave him my direct email address and my cell number. I still do not have the contract or guarantee. I cannot tell you how utterly disgusted I am with both H. Martinez and Angie's List for what I perceive to be an extortion attempt for an additional $700 and a most ill-advised recommendation for a 'reliable' contractor.

I will NEVER do business with either of these entities again.

    ServicePro Express Inc
The staff of ServicePro was amazing! They handled everything promptly, and the repair work was done professionally! Many of the water damage remediation companies in the area can dry out your home, but few act as an "all-in-one" company that can also do the repair work. I would highly recommend using them ! I will definitely call them again!

    Mid-Atlantic Waterproofing of VA
I discovered that the original drainage system in the house had been installed incorrectly (they used unperforated pipe, so the water could not be collected).  Mid-Atlantic dug a trench in the basement floor and installed a new system.  They came back twice in the next few months to correct minor leaks and, as stated above, replaced a sump pump under warranty.  So far (for nearly seven years) the basement has remained dry.
