We were so excited to have found an Urgent Care facility open after 8PM, as that always seems to be when my daughter gets hurt (an effective way to avoid bed time). A little background, my daughter gets Nursemaids Elbow, a dislocation of the elbow joint, which is relatively common in young children. She has unfortunately had it happen three times previously, one of which I was able to reset myself; we've been told by professionals in no uncertain terms it will continue to happen until she outgrows it, and that it does not require x-ray.
Back to the Urgent Care center, when we arrived they had an electronic sign in station, which was very sleek and set it in my mind that its a good facility with resources to spend on these types of upgrades. My husband spoke conducted the paper work portion/triage so I can't comment on how efficient they were with that, but we were only in the waiting room about 15 minutes before being called back. At this point a young man took my daughters vitals and as he was leaving and telling us the doctor would be right with us, he mentioned that they may require an x-ray to proceed. I immediately informed him that we would not require an x-ray, just a professional with experience with nursemaids elbow. He wasn't knowlegeable enough with the injury or procedure to debate with me, so he went to get the doctor, who came in almost immediately.
When the doctor arrived, he didn't bother to even examine my daughter, but to start in on needing an x-ray in order to proceed. His justification being that they needed to make sure they could see what the damage was and that this was the only way to ensure no further damage was caused. (Did I mention that I reset it last time?) I explained to him what happened and that this is not our first time seeking treatment for this particular injury, specifying that we were told in no uncertain terms that x-rays were not required. At this point I was angry, my daughter is sitting there holding her arm like a champ and this man is refusing to help her. When I told him we were not going to consent to x-rays he refused to help us. I asked if he would find us someone who could help us without an x-ray and was told that he was the lead and wouldn't authorize the treatment. Seeing that this was a losing battle and probably in our best interest to just leave, I told him to refund our money and we would leave. Instead of talking to us civilly, his response was that we still wasted his time. (are you kidding me, we wasted his time by driving out of our way to come to that facility instead of directly to the emergency room, seeking professional help instead of risking hurting her further by trying to do it on my own!) Of course this infuriated me further and my retort was, and quot; No, you've wasted our time.and quot; I wish I could say that made me feel better, but obviously it hasn't.
We contacted our insurance company the next day to dispute the charge, but the claim had yet to be filed. In any case I fully intended to at least lodge a complaint with them. The young woman I spoke to contacted the Urgent Care directly and after being bounced from four different people she was assured that the Director would follow up with me personally. If you haven't guessed, it has been two days and I still haven't heard from anyone.
(For anyone who cares to know, we ended up taking her to the caring staff at Loudoun's Pediatric Emergency Room and they not only agreed with my actions, but took care of the problem within minutes of the doctor walking in the room. She not only treated the problem with minimal effort, but had her giggling and happy a few minutes later while still running the followup motion, strength and reflex tests. Considering she is three and only understand to protect her injuries instinctively, this was a huge achievement done in the most creative and professional way I have ever seen. Thank you to the emergency staff in the pediatric ward of Loudoun's Emergency Room)

Wegman's Pharmacy in Dulles, VA - now that I've given them all C's, I'm wondering why I still go there. They're convenient to work, and have a drive-thru pick up window, I suppose. They take forever to fill a prescription - always a long wait (maybe to get you to buy stuff in their store?). I had a scare with an error from a phoned-in prescription -given that the pharmacy staff speaks accented English, I have my doctor fax them prescriptions - I wouldn't call anything in over the phone. My doc called in a prescription for Lipitor, which they filled with Glucotrol. (Had I not noticed, I might have been dead - I have low blood sugar anyway). They were completely unapologetic - they explained how they check phoned in prescriptions with two different people - so much so that I called my doctor's office to check that they'd called in the right thing. The error was clearly Wegman's. But the grocery store part is terrific, and since I'm there anyway, I still use the pharmacy.
