    Michael & Son Svc Inc
The purpose of this is to explain how well we enjoy we enjoy using Michael & Sons.  We've used Michael & Sons in our Arlington home for over 10 plus years after having been terribly disappointed with others. When we bought a second home out in Delaplane, we again looked to Michael & Sons after finding that others there that inspected our home prior to purchasing, having given very positive responses about various things in the house, electric/heating/AC/etc...after moving in, found their assessments were inaccurate and some work they did was less than accurate.

We understand Michael & Sons is expensive compared to others but as the saying goes: "you get what you pay for"...and in Michael & Sons case, we've never been disappointed. We have never been pressured to do/purchase something. We've gotten suggestions and based on subsequent research, what they offered as replacements - some strongly suggested to fix a problem and others as suggestions for improvement - have been sound. Those we selected, we've been totally satisfied with.

Having seen some of the other comments about late technicians, offering expensive items, etc...on Yelp and we would offer that we've never had a problem with a late technician, even in the case that the addresses for both are homes are challenging. In both cases, we help guided them in and where a technician found himself falling behind, we've been called and worked things out.

As for their offering items...have never felt pressured and whether we accepted their recommendations at the time - checking their suggestions afterwards or held off to think about them before making a decision, we've never been disappointed. They offer quality products, that upon research, turn out to be the high quality they have stated. Again..."you get what you pay for."

So we highly recommend Michael & Sons and, being fans of Angie's List - the Yelp competition - have found Michael & Sons at the top of their ratings. So we hope this helps putting Michael & Sons in a proper light from what we've experienced over 10 plus years.

    Moss Building & Design

We recently completed a 3200 square foot home renovation, and Moss was the chosen general contractor.  I had used Moss in my

previous home for a master suite bathroom renovation and was very happy with their work, and wanted to continue the relationship.  We brought them in on our new home project, which was a full over-haul of a historic home in Delaplane, Virginia.  The home had not been lived in over 7 years and was severely neglected.  We needed all disciplines ?on deck? to do HVAC, plumbing, electrical, drywall, bathroom tiling, kitchen cabinet installation, and flooring.  Having a formal education in design and a working background in project management, I knew what to expect from a ?typical contractor?.  Moss exceeded my expectations multiple times over.

At the beginning of the project, I met with one of the senior managers (multiple times) at the property (quite a distance from their

office) and discussed the project in depth. He heard what I wanted, asked the right questions and assisted me in making the right choices for finishes which directly affected the tight timeline in which I needed to complete this house.

After receiving and approving the budget (after some massaging), I was happy that Moss fulfilled my request and gave me a project manager with whom I worked previously on my last project.  Matt and I met at the home, discussed the budget, scope, and the cost and established a preliminary schedule.

Moss was very flexible with me in allowing me to procure some of the materials for a cost savings, which was greatly appreciated.

After the permitting process, the Moss staff worked with my schedule for access and the project kicked-off in full speed!  The disciplines all talked with one another and worked well in not allowing too much ?down time?.   Matt gave me daily updates and status reports on what transpired in the home and the next steps to be taken.  Since I believe that Communication is the most important action in a large project (our budget was hovering around at $300k), I appreciated the afternoon

calls from Matt and was excited to see their progress.

The progress did go well, and all promises were kept. The team was considerate of the home and treated it like their own (e.g.: shoes were removed, trash was picked-up, etc.).  The thing I appreciated the most was the getting to know the guys working in the home.  It felt like we were a team working towards the same goal: restoring a vintage home.  Their professionalism

and commitment actually made me feel good about the project we were taking on.

The project was not complete when we were forced to move back into the home.  It created some scheduling challenges with us being home, but Moss was very kind to work with us and completed the project. Even after the project was formally complete, Matt, the project manager, followed-up on punch list items to ensure his team and his subcontractors took care of the open items.   Even Matt himself came over to assist with punch list items so that he could confirm the work was done correctly.  That attention to detail was greatly respected which is why I will use Moss on my next project.

Bob is a true craftsman. He takes his work very seriously and does a quality job. He alwsys explains options and the reasons for his recommendations. Bob has a wide array of skills, perfect for remodeling. As the work progressed he let us know where problem conditions existed that needed to be corrected. He always shows up on time or calls if there will be a delay. We have a lot of confidence in Bob.

    Heil Plumbing
I loved this company. The people were pretty prompt (They give you an appt rather than a window so technically they were 15 minutes late, but I considered that negligible.) They were friendly, professional and quick.

Jimmy was very friendly and professional. He is a very clear communicator and put everything in writing so there is a clear understanding as to the cost and work to be performed.
