  • Terrible. Stay far, far away from this place. This was a large job for a head gasket replacement. I went there on recommendation of friends and because they quoted the lowest price. Huge mistake. I had to leave my car there for several days and get a rental (typical for this repair, I understand). I paid $1,800 for the repair work. They told me it would burn off oil for a little while. After it didn't stop after a couple months, I took it back. They said "whoever did your head gasket replacement, messed up your car." I said "that was you." They said "no it couldn't have been." I said look up my account. Nope, we don't keep any paperwork. So I went home and found my receipts and took it back in to prove that they had done the work. I left the car, they said it was nothing wrong with it and it would burn off. (????) I got insanely busy with work and didn't have time to take in in again. Until I finally was between jobs and took it to the Subaru dealer and another local shop in town, who BOTH told me that the head gasket needed replacement. The other local shop said there was evidence that the work was never done. He took off the head gasket and showed it to me and said there was no way that part was new less than a year ago. I had to pay another $2, 400 to have the entire repair done again (plus the hassle of being without a car and paying for a rental for days). I sent a letter to Garry's requesting a refund with no response. Don't go here. You will regret it.

  • My 1995 jeep had a fast idle when in drive, but in a stopped position. Meaning when at a stop sign or stop light. In addition when I went from the stopped position and accelerated, there was alot of hesitation. It was like the jeep was not getting enough "air". It was at a point where many times I thought it was going to cut off, stop running. Meinekee gave me about three things that could be causing the problems. Unfortunately, it was hard to determine what the soulition would be. He let me know it may take several hours to determine the cause. Due to the age of the jeep he was unsure how much money I wanted to spend to determine what the issue was and then the cost of the repair. I really appreciated the honesty of the technician. He did not try to persuade me to do the repair. He wanted me to think about what I wanted to do, and bring the jeep back. In addition, they did not charge me for the analysis. I have had other work done to my vehicles at Meinekee. I find them to be honest and reasonablly priced. I have never been turned away when I stopped by without an appointment.

  • The car was making a knocking noise. They determined one of the tires had a large knot\bubble on the inside of one of the tires. We ended up replacing all four tires. The cost was reasonable. I have found that the cost of repair at Warren James is lower than other shops in Charlottesville. I have gone as far as to get a estimate at a Charlotessville shop and here. Warren's prices are always lower. Sometimes significantly lower. I believe they are able to keep their cost low because they don't have alot of overhead cost (my opinion). It is a large building, nothing fancy. They have been in business for a very long time. They are courteous and friendly. They only take cash or checks. They are always busy so make sure you call in advance to set up a appointment. If your car problem is more of a safety issue\emergency, they do their best to fix the problem on the spot.

  • The service manager called me a few hours later to give me an estimate on the brakes. Much to my surprise the estimate came in at $3500.00 They claimed the steering column was damaged and leaking, and a laundry list of other supposed issues. I picked up the van without Brown doing any work to my vehicle. I took the vehicle to McDonough and they fixed the brakes for 600 the same day and did the inspection. They DID NOT FIND any of the supposed issues. I will never frequent Brown Toyota again.

  • I moved to Crozet, VA six months ago and had been searching for a place to have my car serviced. I refused to go to the local Honda Dealership where i purchased my vehicle because they've given me poor service and have outright lied to me many times. The last time I had my three-year-old Honda towed in when the transmission and right axle went out. My problems began when my car sat for 15 days in the same spot in their parking lot before anyone had looked at it. That was just the start of a long process that I really want to forget.

Anyway, I looked on Angie's List and saw Bellair Service near my home. I stopped there yesterday on my way home from running errands. I just walked in and they were able to fit me in. Everyone was more than nice and did the work in a short time. They noticed that my state inspection had expired a couple of months earlier and asked if I wanted to have that done--rather than going ahead and doing the work without checking with me first. I know the work HAD to have been done, but it wouldn't have been very professional for them to not have asked me to perform the inspection beforehand. Who knows how long I would have driven around without noticing that the inspection had expired ...

They also noticed that I had axle fluid all over my engine and suspected that when my transmission went out, that's when the axle broke as well. They showed me the grease and told me that I should power spray it off of my engine. They also offered to do it for me free of charge at a later date if I was unable to clean up the grease myself.

Needless to say, I will be going back to Bellair for all of my car repair and service from now on ... and I told them that!

I recommend them to everyone who doesn't want to be taken advantage of and get ripped off with dealer prices.

  • I called them on the day it happened. Owner came to my house and viewed the damage, estimated cost. He then went back to his shop and called me for the price to fix it. The car was fixed, I believe, by the VERY NEXT DAY!

  • My son's car died and we rolled it to the Community Garage on a Sunday. They checked it out the next day, gave us an estimate (distributor), and fixed it promptly when I told them to go ahead. No problems since then.

  • Our experience overall was excellent. It has been difficult to find someone to work on our cars that we felt were genuine and completely trustworthy. We finally found what we were looking for. Thank you Matthew!

  • My husband has taken all of our cars to Airport Auto for the past few years, as he works around the corner from them and we stopped trusting another auto repair place after some repairs had to be done over again that shouldn't have been. They never do any repair work without talking to us first and giving us an estimate and telling us what our options are. They get it done when they say they will, and everyone there is knowledgeable and friendly. One time when my husband dropped me off to pick up my car, our kids were with us, and they gave each of us a cupcake that was leftover from a birthday celebration.

When I bought a new muscle car that started riding roughly after a visit to the dealer, one of their head techs actually came for a ride with me so I could show him what the car was doing. He looked at my tires and saw they were Continentals, which are known for a rough ride, and he told me to slightly under-inflate them (26 pounds of pressure instead of 30). Worked like a charm. Since I don't drive my car that much, they suggested switching to synthetic oil for my oil changes, because it doesn't break down over time like natural oil, and that's saved me from unnecessary oil changes. I can now go 8,000 miles (about a year!) because oil changes.

They are able to quickly identify quirky problems and fix them. I would highly recommend them!

  • My son was visitin NJ from out of state during the hurricane Irene and his car wouldn't start so he had it towed to MP.  He had to drive it through some water to get to where he was staying and told the mechanic just that.  Next day the car wouldn't start so he had it towed to MP.  There they took the car apart, battery, wires, you name it and it took them 7 hours to figure out it was the alternator! The mechanic claims it was water damage ane they had to clean it up, but it had never sat around for any length of time after it was driven through a puddle. They then billed me over $730 and didn't even fix the thing!  It was then another $450 to fix the alternator!!!  He did give me a $200 cash discount but didn't guaranty ANY of his work.  So, literally the car may break down tomorrow and I'd be out $1000!!!  I've never had a mechanic who wouldn't make good on the repair work he's done.  This car is OLD and had been running beautifully since for the past 10 years I've had it serviced by a professional mechanic who deals with Saabs all of the time.  I would have paid half if I was able to have it serviced in Virginia!
