    Retina Institute Of Virginia
Really disappointed with my experience at Virginia Retina Institute and Dr. Tobassian. I had laser surgery at the beginning of 2020. The procedure went well. However, when it was time for my follow-up appointment, I received a call from the office telling me that my appointment was going to be canceled due to COVID. I did not hear from the office for many months following this message. Eventually, the office re-opened and I arrived for my follow-up appointment to ensure the surgery had successfully repaired the damaged areas of my retina. I was told by the front desk staff that I need to pay again for a new appointment since it had been greater than 90 days from the original date of surgery (regardless of COVID and the cancellation of all appointments by their office). Since I am not willing to pay a second time for a procedure I already paid for once, I am left without a follow-up appointment for the procedure performed on my retinas. I have witnessed many doctor’s across different fields be understanding, compassionate and reasonable during these times. However, Virginia Retina Institute is not one of them. I hope others have a better experience.

    Dr. Clifford A. Roffis
I have been going to Dr. Roffis for years and he has always taken the time to get my prescription exactly correct.  He is efficient AND thorough and knowledgable about new options available, such as taking a photo of the eye vs dilation. I would highly recommend his services.

    Virginia Eye Institute
It is an excellent operation there and they have doctors who specialize in every facet of what could go wrong with the eye. I feel like I am in really good hands; if the person examining me is unsure she has all kinds of colleagues she can call upon. It is a very well-run organization and I will use them again in the future.

I was there helping her out. Angie’s List probably has a lot of feedback on the already. They are located in Richmond with several offices. Her specific doctor was Dr. Tony Sakowski. I can’t sing their praises enough. The cataract surgery was in February. The experience was outstanding. She saw 2 doctors there, Dr Sakowski and Dr. Slott, and they work with repair and damage that had occurred with an earlier cataract surgery on her left eye. That had happened with another group of doctor, but it just happened. They help with repairing that damage and they removed the cataract from the right eye. In both cases, they had helped her so much. They’ve done an excellent job. Their skill, their professionalism was good. With her left eye, I was amazed that they were able to do that much because several months had passed. They were able to help her beyond my expectation with the damaged eye. Then with the cataract surgery on the second eye, it went extremely well.

    Peter Goldmann MD
I have been seeing Dr. Goldmann for a number of years. I have the utmost confidence in his care. Although I don't have any eye health conditions, I like the idea that someone is monitoring my general eye health, watching for any potential problems with retina, macular degeneration, etc. I have been pleased with Dr. Goldmann's attempts to coach me through how to make decisions about my vision as I get into middle age and start to get farsighted as well as nearsighted. His approach is to lay out several options I might want to try and then he lets me make the decision. On several occasions, he also has given me sample contact lenses so I can try out a new prescription before I commit to a certain strength. The office staff is efficient and is a mix of very friendly nurses and assistants, plus a few who are less friendly but seem to do a good job. I never feel rushed when I'm talking with Dr. Goldmann, which I appreciate, and he has a wonderful manner with patients. However, he is often running late, resulting in a long wait. The last time I was there, I only waited about seven minutes to be taken back; then the preliminary exams by his staff were all finished within about 20 minutes, which is record time; and THEN...I waited for about 40 minutes to actually see the doctor. My entire visit took almost two hours, and it was one of the earliest of the day. Dr. Goldmann is one of my very favorite doctors, and although the visit lengths are becoming a drawback, I will say if you have the time, he absolutely is worth the wait!

    Ladd, Dr. Byron S.
He's a retinal specialist. He listens to the patient, he's very reassuring, he's got good bedside manner and very interested in what you're saying. The staff is very good, very knowledgeable and very welcoming.

    Dr. Read McGehee, MD
I am on social security and medicare now so I don't have vision insurance.  When I asked them about keeping the cost down and I asked them what cost we could eliminate so they recommended things and that is what I did. I found them that they were very cooperative and push things on me that I didn't need.  They are keeping a watch on cataracts and glaucoma and I am very satisfied with them. They are very professional and pleasant.

    Roper, Dr. Barry E.
He is fine.  He is excellent.  He has been a professor too.  He has removed a cateract from left eye a couple of years ago and it went well.  Everything about the operation is good.  He does good work and he explains well.  It's almost like he's teaching a class.  We drive 30 miles to get to him just because he is good.  His staff

Refraction done by a tech, eyes dilated, and then exam done by Dr. Baker.  Dr. Baker was very nice, knowledgeable, and thorough.

    MCV Physicians
Procedure went fine and I found the technician very gentle.  I promptly received the result by mail.  I especially like this department because they send out yearly reminders. BUT, I would say that this survey is not appropriate for the vast number of physicians who are part of MCV Physicians.  The VCU Medical Center has so many physicians that this kind of survey is meaningless.  What is needed is a survey on individual physicians.  I've never used Angie's list for a physician, but if I wanted physician reviews I would use Richmond Magazine and/or Style magazine (not sure if they both have reviews).
