My family was very happy with the services provided by Superior Landscaping. At first our project started out small but as my wife and I became more appreciative of Troy and his honest feedback and recommendations, we expanded the scope to include more services. 1.) Installation of french drain - We started with just a french drain to address standing water issues in our front and side yards. Superior installed a "horseshoe" french drain the surrounded both sides of the house and backyard, draining water from the gutters, sump pump and yard to the street. After 1+ month since the french drain was installed we've noticed a tremendous improvement with the usability of our yard after a heavy rainfall. No more soggy/muddy spots. The materials used and dimensions for the trench seemed very good to allow for the needed drainage. 2.) Installation of Patio and Retaining Walls/Garden Edging - We expanded the project to gain more usable space in our backyard with the addition of a patio and retaining wall. The work involved excavation of areas around an existing deck to create a flat and usable patio for entertaining. It allowed us a nice space to place a firepit, chairs and also an area where our children can play. With the patio a retaining wall was installed that also has the height to serve as a sitting area. This was expanded the other garden beds in the front and back of the house. The craftsmanship of the work was top notch. 3.) With all the excavation required, we included the installation of sod to our back yard and part of our side yards. Proper compost soil and very fresh sod were laid down. A month later the grass looks amazing! All garden beds were also mulched and trees were trimmed to allow for more sunlight in the backyard.

We couldn't be happier with the entire process. We started with our own vision and Troy expanded that vision beyond our expectations. Nothing was too difficult to accomplish! We have a beautiful deck that spans the entire back of our home with a screened porch, but the yard was in bad shape. Now, we feel we can enjoy our entire backyard space! Troy was terrific to work with....he responded promptly to all our questions and was readily available at all times. The crew was great , very professional and courteous. Troy said it would take a week and they were out in three days!! It was wonderful.... we will be hiring them again for "phase two" sometime in the future. We HIGHLY recommend Superior Landscaping!!

If you need to replace your underground oil tank, then you're freaking out about the expense and possible catastrophic complications.   So do yourself a favor and call Willard.    This wonderful family company makes everything easy.

Our very positive experience started with the initial visit by Josh.    Then company owner Billy Willard answered all our many questions.   Considering the options, we decided to purchase a Roth tank.    Not just more compact than other brands, it also has a 30-year warranty.   Willard is the only company in Virginia certified to install Roths.

Our work was scheduled quickly.    Willard called Miss Utility and also our county -- we didn't have to do a thing.   The Roth tank fit neatly into our garage and Billy and his crew took great care with every detail of its complicated installation.    The removal of our underground tank went really well too, even though the tank turned out to be quite deep.    Frank and Josh worked very carefully to expose but not damage the old tank, and to transfer oil into the new tank.    Then the old tank was prepared so the residual oil could be pumped for recycling.    We hadn't even realized this step would take place, because Willard had made all the arrangements.   Next the tank was lifted and soil samples were taken.      Then, using a truckload of fill Willard supplied as well as the excavated soil, the enormous hole was filled, carefully graded and sown with grass seed.

You can imagine how many heavy vehicles were in motion to accomplish all this, yet there was not the slightest damage to our fence, landscaping, driveway or house.

Meanwhile, Tim was connecting the new Roth tank to our furnace, working with ingenuity around the maze of ducting. pipes and wires in our basement.   He wasn't satisfied until he was sure the connection was perfect.

We thought the entire crew was awesome, and that opinion was validated when the county fire inspector approved everything they'd done.   The Willards and Josh Delaney were not just expert, they were really friendly and considerate.    It was a pleasure to have them around,  They turned what had been a huge nightmare into a perfectly executed solution.

Mr. Peredo came out immediately to give me an estimate, and was able to start the work within a couple of days.  The job was done quickly and very well; his men managed to avoid damaging our new shrubs even though the old pipe ran almost directly under them.  I will definitely use him next time in I need excavation or concrete work.

Recently bought a property that needed major landscaping work. Asked three companies to bid on the project. James who is the president of the company came by himself to take a look around and give me an estimate. I was a bit concerned that the president of the company is coming to take a look at the job wondering how big the company might be, but to my surprise when they started the work, it was an army of people and equipment and they did the job on time, very clean and very professional. James gave me a proposal first and then on his own asked if he could come back and take a second look around the property to see if he can save me some money and he actually did. This was not because I told him he was more expensive or anything, it was just second look at the job as he had ideas to save me time and money. The first project was done on time and since then I have done three other projects with him all of which have been done on time and with great care. The man cares about his reputation and it shows.

BEST. CONTRACTOR. EVER! (We base this opinion upon our experiences with prior bathrooms and kitchen renovations, two barns constructed, and a house constructed). We found NRG on Angie's List.
This project was simple enough: Add a 7x10 on-slab laundry room onto the back of our existing mudroom, and then replace the small deck that had to come down to make room for the laundry room foot print. A new laundry room addition, built on the main floor of the house where we'd lived for nineteen years, would eliminate having to navigate stairs to use the dark, remote original laundry area in the unfinished side of the basement.
We first met David Gordon, NRG Project Manager, at our home just a few days after our initial contact. We provided David with some basic ideas of what we wanted. He listened carefully, made some suggestions, and said he understood the general scope of the project. He took measurements and photos at that first meeting, and then went back to the office to work with his designer. Within a few days, he came back to us with several alternative plans. We picked the one that most closely matched what we thought would work the best for us, and then we all worked together to tweak the design a few more times until it seemed right. Then we plugged-in basic fixtures and materials so David could present us with the NRG contract and pricing.
We were a bit taken back by the price, but we agreed to the contract as written, realizing this tiny 7x10 addition would require pretty much all of the trades (excavation, concrete, framing/carpentry, electrical, plumbing, siding, cedar shake roofing, spray foam insulation, counter top fabrication, painting, tile setting, and HVAC). Once the contract was signed, and we gave NRG our deposit, detailed preliminary design plans were created.
As the final designs took shape, we all realized there were several existing building code deficiencies adjacent to where the new addition would be tied into the house. David identified what needed to be done to bring these problems up to code, and we added a few additional-cost change orders to the original contract even before the final project plans were approved. Better to be safe than worrying whether the new project won't pass inspections because of something wrong with the original structure.
Due to the Christmas holidays, we chose to delay ground breaking until the second week of January 2014. (What were we thinking?)  David had already applied for all of the building permits, so everything was ready to begin as planned. Even though January and February had some of the longest duration cold nights and days plus snow/ice storms in more than four years, work progressed daily except on the few days when it was actively snowing or too cold to pour concrete. David's two-man crew and/or subs were on site usually eight hours every weekday, and sometimes on weekends if weather prevented working on a weekday. On several days, once the project was under roof, there were so many subs on site at the same time someone might have thought there was a whole house being built. David was on-site part of every workday, usually early in the morning, and always when a building inspection was scheduled. He was very responsive to all of our questions and issues along the way, either communicating by email, phone, text message, or making additional on-site visits. There was never a time when we didn't feel like we were the most important NRG project that day.
David and each member of his crew, plus every sub, was friendly, hard-working, competent, and respectful of our home and property. The project site was tidied-up at the end of every workday, and we always felt our outdoor pets were safe to wander around outside after the work day was done. During the two months of this project, we never once felt unsure whether we could safely leave any of the workers alone in our home when we couldn't be around.
Everything didn't go perfectly. On most projects we've done, that's the norm. It's how the contractor reacts to these challenges that demonstrates to us how good the contractor really is/isn't. Every time there was a hiccup, David resolved the issue, and got everything back on track in short order. In every instance, David resolved the issue with ideas better than we could ever have come up with on our own. For example: space was so tight in such a small room addition, once the split-system ductless heat pump air handler was installed high on its wall, it partially blocked the adjacent hanging cabinet door from fully opening. David offered several alternatives, and we all eventually agreed to take the cabinet door off. David re-fabricated the inside of the cabinet and shelves with identical-material laminate. The result was a custom-look open cabinet that perfectly matched the rest of the room's cabinetry.
We really like the finished project. It's functional, aesthetically pleasing, and quite an upgrade over what we'd had for almost twenty years in our house. We can't imagine why we didn't do this addition project sooner.
We certainly plan to use NRG on our next project, especially if David Gordon is project manager.

We contacted Troy who is the owner of Superior Landscaping, Inc. for an estimate on extending our back yard and rescuing a portion that was at risk of washing away due to erosion. We have just relocated to this area and our home is on a greenbelt/water shed and the back yard area is heavily wooded with little sunlight getting to the grass for proper growth. Troy came to our home with photo books of past work and references regarding his past services.  We discussed with Troy the idea we had envisioned for creating a retaining wall to help prevent further erosion and grass planting to make the backyard more functional. He also brought to our attention the need for better draining as our drain outlets were helping to create the erosion problem, too. After collaborating, we finalized a plan with a beautiful retaining wall that our kids could also walk on ( what kids do not love doing that?!), soil addition and leveling of yard, tree removal (3 total ) to help allow for better sunlight to the yard for grass growth, planting sod for immediate yard results and edging and mulching. The result was incredible and we have had many compliments from neighbors for "reclaiming our yard back"! Troy was actually able to bring his crew in a week earlier than expected and complete our project in two full days. His crew came in and were so professional, kind and courteous in every way from the work they did to the cleanup afterwards. They were very pleasant. They even helped with some additional tree trimming that was needed in the front of our home on a last minute request. We would not hesitate to use Superior Landscaping again for any future needs! We highly recommend them for anyone looking for landscaping companies for services.
