    Lucky Pups Pet Wash
I had a good first experience at Lucky Paws during the week. I took in 3 dogs, groomed 2 myself and let them do the 3rd. The dog they did was wonderfully groomed and I was happy to have found a groomer so close to where we live. The 2nd time was a fiasco. I scheduled two dogs for a bath and groom. They told me the first available appointment was a Saturday, so I took it. The shop was chaotic and I should have left and rescheduled. Instead, I left my 2 dogs. They told me 2 hours. Almost 3 hours later they called and said the dogs were ready. When I walked in the shop, they immediately went and got my male, who is a busy teenager and handed him to me within touching distance of another whole male dog. Bad idea. I pulled him to the side, while they got my poor deaf girl out of a "drying cage" where she was cowering. She is the happiest dog in the world and I was extremely concerned to see how shut down she was. Before I could even touch her they were asking me how she looked. I told them I hadn't had time to look. When I put my hands on her, her neck and behind her ears were so wet that the bandanna and her collar were both soaked. She was matted behind the ears and at the back of her neck. When I called their attention to this they said they would dry her some more but she hadn't liked the dryer. I have *never* had trouble with her and a dryer before. While the girl began to get her set up on a table, my teenager is pulling and barking and it was again a chaotic scene. I told her to forget it, I would take her home and take care of it myself. I pointed out that my male had mats on the inside of his thighs and they advised me that was the "sani area" and they didn't do that. It is NOT part of a sanitary trim. I was very unhappy that they charged me full price for the groom. They replied that they said they would fix it if I waited. I'd already waited nearly an hour longer than they said and changed my schedule to allow for the pickup. I told them they should have gotten it right BEFORE they called me to pick them up. So I took my dogs home, again observing how shut down my sweet white dog was and wondering what the **** they did to her. When I put her up on the grooming table at home, I realized that they had only blown her dry partially, and not combed her out at all. I am an experienced groomer and I know how a coat looks when its dried and not combed. I combed mats and lot of loose hair out of her. The same with my male. They charged me $94 for this fiasco that I had to spend about 45 minutes correcting. I sent the photos that are attached here to them via email and asked that the owner contact me. The owner, Karen Brown, did call me and basically made a variety of excused as to why this happened, up to and including that a bath and blow dry did not include grooming. Having had such a great experience the first time, how in the world was I supposed to expect that my dogs would not be groomed like the first one would? I told her they did a good job on their feet and asked for a partial refund for the rest, which she refused. She would rather have bad reviews online than refund $60. They just did a lousy job and did not own up to it. I will never take my dogs there again. If you have long coated dogs, beware. I wonder how many matted dogs are running around out there because their owners think they were groomed when they went to Lucky Pups.

    ANIMAL MEDICAL OF CHESAPEAKE
Very well. My dogs are very comfortable with the veterinary staff, assistant and vet, who are all very gentle and kind. Clearly explain issues with my pups, and the repercussions if we don't address the problem. When asked about wellness plan, explained the program and provided an estimate of costs. Very much appreciate being able to join program before paying for visit, which greatly reduced expected costs. Absolutely love coming here because I'm able to get an appointment that fits my schedule. Also, not so busy that I cannot find parking nor sit in the lobby. No delays.

It went horrifically. The staff was not able to obtain a fecal sample to determine if the diarrhea was due to bacterial overgrowth. Despite that, Dr. Mapes prescribed an antibiotic, which I thought was a very bad idea because I believe the diarrhea was a side effect of her other medications, not a bacterial overgrowth. When Dr. Mapes spoke to me, she did not disclose the specific antibiotic. I had to ask. She prescribed metronidazole. Unfortunately, I have had a number of very bad experiences with metronidazole, including one dog who had neurological side effects from the drug. I will never, ever use that drug again. Dr. Mapes did not seem open to discuss my objections about metronidazole. Yet, I was sent home with it. It is my opinion that Dr. Mapes did not listen to my objections and would not provide another option. Based upon my dog's history, which Dr. Mapes was not familiar with, nor inquired about, prescribing metronidazole would be a huge mistake. I cordially objected to that antibiotic, and it seemed that Dr. Mapes did not have the time to discuss a better option. She also claimed that no other antibiotic can be used to treat diarrhea - I do not believe that is a true statement. She did prescribe a probiotic. However, I am already using one. So essentially I left with a sick dog, and an extremely poor treatment plan. She never discussed a bland diet or any other approaches. i came in with a sick dog, and left with a sick dog, the only change that occurred was to my bank account. It is my opinion that Dr. Mapes did not discuss the issues with me, and did not disclose the specific treatment plan until I asked. The whole appointment was a waste of time and money. More importantly, I left with a sick dog without a viable treatment plan. The reason I saw Dr. Mapes instead of my regular vet was because she was not in. Even in the worst of circumstances, the most dire of emergencies, I will never return. What occurred at Edinburgh Animal Hospital would never have occurred with my regular veterinarian. Upon returning home, I was angry and disgusted. I called their office to speak to the office manager but she had already left for the day. (My call was placed before 4PM and they are open to 7PM.) Their solution was that I could return the metronidazole for a refund. Clearly, they totally missed the point. My dog means the world to me. I am in a great deal of distress because as her advocate, I sought intervention for her, and was unable to get the help that she needed. The following is most troubling. All along I communicated that I feared that my dog's diarrhea was due to taking a prescribed drug, Vetmedin, when she did not have a full stomach. (Occasionally she refuses to eat after taking her meds.) After returning home I googled Vetmedin and it stated: "Discontinue giving Vetmedin and contact your veterinarian if your pet develops; poor appetite, drowsiness, diarrhea." Why is it that Dr. Mapes didn't know this and advise me to discontinue Vetmedin??????? Instead, there was no treatment plan that included discontinuing Vetmedin, only a prescription for a very strong antibiotic when there was no evidence that she had a bacterial overgrowth. My dog has a pacemaker as well as a serious heart valve defect. She is a five pound dog whose health is already compromised. What occurred today was unconscionable. Boo. Hiss.

They do her yearly checkup. They’ve done grooming services for me and I’ve been satisfied with everything. I think they’re wonderful. I have recommended them because they are wonderful. They try to keep the cost down. They try to make sure that they take care of the dog, but they don’t try to get you to do a lot of extra stuff that is unnecessary.

    Acredale Animal Hospital
My beef with them is that I am always calling to get a prescription refill and they say do it 24 hours in advance and then you go pick it up and they haven't even started it yet. They do that all the time. They seem to be kind to my animals.

    THE COOKE VETERINARY MEDICAL CENTER
Everyone took their time in tending to my dogs. They want to create a positive experience for my dogs vs muzzling them to care for them. Dr Cooke is very informative and discusses potential plans of care. Very prompt with returning calls as well.

We have been going to Edinburgh Vet Hosp.and Dr. Campbell since they opened in Chesapeake. We have several dogs and cats, so we are always taking one or two to the clinic. Service has always been very good. Dr. Campbell is an outstanding Vet that is very knowledgeable about so many pet health problems. I always refer my friends to Edinburgh Vet Hospital.

Our healthy, energetic 6 month old Papillon puppy died during a routine spaying procedure at this clinic. This was devastating. I know there is some risk for any procedure but the veterinary staff told us there was no additional risk for a small puppy. Now we dont know what to think. The vet, Dr. Springer, assured us that all correct procedures were followed; however, he and his clinic were not able to keep our healthy puppy alive. We trust the vets to give us professional advice and keep our best friends safe. But the pet owner assumes all the risk for the procedure and still pays for an unsuccessful outcome. We miss our little puppy. I rated this an F because we lost our puppy. We have been using this vet for many years with generally satisfactory results and an overall rating for this entire time would be a B or C.

They've been very good.  They're great cost-wise.  That's why I keep going back to them.  They're pretty good all the way around.  They're great, they're nice, they're quick, prices are great.  They seem like they care, which is always a good thing when it is with your pets.  I've been going through them for awhile and I keep going back.  I've tried a mom & pop shop but they're always a little bit too pricey for me.  So services and price range and they're very professional, and I've got lots of dogs; they take the time to ask what I want, so yeah, they're great.
