AStafford & Son BuildersWe hired Tom to complete an addition/renovation project for us and are extremely happy with the results. We have a disabled child so built a first floor accessible bedroom suite to accommodate his care. The project also involved renovating existing space including removing a load-bearing wall, and adding a new deck. I was impressed with Tom from the first encounter. I had about 15 different contractors quote the project and Tom spent the most time looking at the project, taking measurements, and asking detailed questions others did not. When I told him what I did for work he then dropped three names of colleagues of mine that he had done work for and they all had very positive things to say about him when I asked. He put together a detailed and transparent quote and had a very competitive price. Tom was at the house daily throughout the project and was very attentive to detail ensuring everything was done with high quality craftsmanship. He was flexible when we wanted to make changes or additions, and fair and transparent in his pricing providing quotes from his vendors. He was responsive throughout via phone/text/email. All his workers, whether those he directly employs or subcontractors, were professional and respectful and we felt comfortable having them in our house. The final product turned out great and we couldn't be happier. Several of our neighbors have already had him complete projects for them as well. We definitely plan on using him again for our next project!- Eric D.

ASteve and his entire crew were professional, quick, and thorough. I was impressed with the attention to detail and recommendations for our climate and environment on the water. He was actually under budget without sacrificing on quality of materials or length of project. I look forward to working with Steve on future projects.

FFirst and foremost, I want to say this review is mainly about my feelings of his professionalism. As homeowners, we were far too lenient with him and his requests for early payments, extending the timeline etc., I will take responsibility for that. This was a major addition to our home and I guess I expected a contractor willing to do the job would have the knowledge and desire to leave the job complete. We were constantly running into issues where I would have to go to Home Depot or whatever online service he recommended and purchase additional items. Only to be met with disapproval of my choices or push back. A few times, the wrong items were purchased and ended up in the garbage because they could not be returned. This project was broken into 2 contracts. The first was combining 2 bedrooms in the existing house and remodeling of a bathroom, plus changing out our oil heat to a new heat pump and gas water heater. Things went well, it was just Geoff and his "apprentice" that did a majority of the work. He had a plumber for the HVAC work and bath fixtures. Was happy for the most part with his design, made a couple of changes. He stuck with the timelines in the contract and finished in a relatively good time. A couple months later we started the addition to the house. There were a few weather delays that he could not help. He had a sub for the foundation and brick work but for everything else it was Geoff and his apprentice Daytron. What was supposed to be a 3-4 month job ending up taking 8 months and we were left with a lot of unfinished items. There was an unfortunate accident and after, Geoff didn't come around hardly at all. The deck was left to Daytron to do who said he had never done one before. It's a nice deck but there are a lot of items that needed addressing and never were. Geoff did all the electrical work then his electrician would come to finalize everything. A lot of times, that electrician was very unreliable. One night he was down working in our basement until 10pm. The overall design he came up with for the addition was great. He talked us into providing my mother's room with a handicap accessible bath and walk in shower. Thank goodness he did because after her accident, she was unable to walk for 2 months. He has good ideas, cannot fault that. What I do fault the most are the little issues. We were constantly making changes in the scope of work because for whatever reason, they weren't thought of or included in the original contract. Things like additional trim paint to match the new or painting of existing doors to match the paint in the new hall, etc. Again, on a job of this size and cost, I expected the contractor to be aware of all the little things. The biggest mistake, there was an air conditioning vent in front of the window that became the doorway to the new addition. For whatever reason, that was not considered for relocation. Only after my mother got hurt, I had to insist on it being moved. In the 2 years since completion of this project, I've had the HVAC serviced 5 times, had to hire a structural engineer to find out why the walls were cracking and doors no longer closed properly. I realize there is settling but it cracked within a year of building. This particular door was adjusted by Geoff on several occasions. Had to hire and pay, another contractor to fix the crack, which has since reopened, and do the finishing of drywall and trim in an existing room that was remodeled because of the addition. Buyer beware.

AWe needed to have the stairwell railing replaced for various reasons and decided to have the banisters and trim replaced as well. Pat Smith came out to assess the same day we initially contacted him. He provided a quote when 24 hours and scheduled our appointment very shortly after. The work was complete within the next week. He consulted with me regarding the replacement options to ensure I was pleased. His years of experience are reflected in his quality workmanship! We will use Atlantic Contracting again!

Tidewater Pro Build is a mid-size home remodeling company operating out of Chesapeake, VA. Our team does the majority of the leg work in the field and in so doing keeps subcontracting to a minimum. We provide flexible financing options.
Recent Review:
AAfter many meetings with contractors I chose to hire Tidewater ProBuild to remodel my kitchen. I found companies who offered me a cheaper bid at least it appeared so but as I asked questions it was clear the initial bid was a guesstimate one that would change with the details. All the companies subcontracted out a good deal of the work, this concerned me because it would mean several companies coordinating their schedules to get my remodel completed. Tidewater ProBuild has their own specialist inhouse. The other significant difference was the contract with Tidewater ProBuild was all inclusive. Initially I was overwhelmed with the information I was given and met with Trey twice for several hours just to review the information in the contract and to develop a picture of what I hoped my kitchen would look like when the work was complete. Trey used the computer program to show me how my kitchen would look, and he made changes until it was exactly what I wanted. I changed a few more times even after the remodel was started and he patiently made the changes. Trey, Caleb and Kevin all very experienced in remodels checked in with me each day keeping me apprised of what to expect the next day. They answered my questions and offered creative suggestions throughout the entire process. I now have a kitchen I love, and the job was done on time and slightly under my original budget. I got everything and more than what was promised in the contract. I am happy to talk with anyone about my experience and have let Trey know he can feel free to use me as a reference. The employees of the Tidewater ProBuild were all helpful; they never acted frustrated or hurried when I would stop and ask questions. I'm pretty sure every person employed with the company brought their special touch to my remodel. The men all worked well together and each one seemed to love what they did and took pride in what they were creating. Thank you: Trey, Caleb, Kevin, Andy, Brian, Deacon, Mario, Mitch, Petey, and Stephen.

DVery Disappointed the job was supposed to be completed before September. Of course, due to COVID-19 the job was held off which would not have been an issue but I signed the contract at the beginning of June, a project manager was supposed to contact me in 3 to 4 weeks due to work scheduled being backlogged. Well 6 weeks later no one reached out to me I tried to get ahold of the sales rep to no avail I had already submitted a down payment and had not heard from the company at all. I finally was able to reach the office after four different conversations and after another month gone by someone finally scheduled the work to be done. The day came and no one showed up and did not hear from anyone. I called the office again and although promises were made nothing happened. No discount for the inconvenience the work is not great it looks like I could have wrapped my own trim not professional at all. Very disappointed in this company would not recommend this to anyone at all. They do not compensate for lack of communication they left trash in my yard for 2 weeks no contact with me about anything at all. This company works as if it is a teenage shop with no accountability.
