I should have hired a lawyer from day one. We went to court where our claim was mediated by the judge. We took Mr. Bodenstein to the Virginia Department of Professional and Occupational Regulations. Mr. Bodenstein was fined $4500 dollars and his license was revoked until he went through classes on the regulations and successfully passed them. Mr. Bodenstein at first resisted Va DPOR and then pled guilty to all of the charges. The Va Department of Professional and Occupational Regulations discovered that none of Mr. Bodenstein's subcontractors were licensed. Those subcontractors were: electricity, plumbing, propane, HVAC and concrete foundation. We paid $123,000 to Mr. Bodenstein, lost $40,000, largely in legal fees, in the court settlement and had to spend an additional large sum to repair and replace shoddy work and omitted work. Mr. Bodenstein used a workman who was released daily from the local Joint Security Complex and Mr. Bodenstein failed to live up to the contract he signed with the prison. Not knowing the worker was a prisoner who was locked up for theft, we gave him access to the property. Mr. Bodenstein told us this worker was a "master electrician" and he was not. Yet that workman divided the power coming to the house, installed a replacement electric box for the house and the cottage, installed all electrical wiring and a new electric panel for the cottage. He also installed propane piping which was incorrect and failed to pass the occupancy inspection and had to be replaced at considerable cost. He did major plumbing work. Mr. Bodenstein began work before obtaining a building permit and what was supposed to be a three month job extended from early June until he was fired a week before Christmas. Mr. Bodenstein has an excuse for everything and tells elaborate tales to explain away his problems. However, when the Virginia Board of Contractors at VaDPOR investigated him for a full year, all of his stories melted away in front of them. Mr. Bodenstein was often away for weeks at a time. His "supervision" was cursory. We had pipes freeze because areas were not insulated or insulated improperly. The new roofing Mr. Bodenstein had installed did not include the necessary replacement ridge vent system, The plumbing hook-ups for the dishwasher and kitchen sink leaked and flooded the floors. Even after all of this, we are very satisfied with our cottage. It took extra money and other professionals to make it right, but we are delighted. The work Mr. Bodenstein had done was not all bad. In fact, some of it was exceptional. But corners were cut and he got testier and testier. We live on the site and were always available for any sort of consultation. Our "contract" was split into individual contracts in what VaDPOR determined was a way for Mr. Bodenstein to get around his $119,999.99 license ceiling. We learned a lot during all of this. Eventually, Mr. Bodenstein sent us a "change order" which was invalid. Relationships deteriorated and he was fired. Hire that lawyer if you get involved with Mr. Bodenstein. And contact VaDPOR in order to understand how to deal with a licensed Virginia Contractor. VaDPOR is on your side against contractors who don't follow the regulations. It is not enough to be told that the contractor is insured and bonded. Ask to examine the documents.

    TOP Quality Home Improvements LLC
We had our Charlottesville home out for many years. Tom was our go-to guy. He is responsive, and incredibly talented. We were told we needed several big ticket repairs and when Tom took a look, he was able to do a beautiful job while saving us quite a bit of money. This is your old-fashioned jack of all trades. The guy knows his stuff, is completely trustworthy and we have come to rely on him. We have since sold our home and have passed Tom's name on to the new owners. If there were more professionals like Tom around, I think we would all be in better shape.

This review will tell you the type of person Tom is. We recently purchased a home that needed a large number of updates. From reading the reviews, Tom was THE guy for the job. We appreciated that he educated us throughout the process and really had a passion for the work he does. Once complete, the work was top-notch. Couldn't have been happier with the results. Fast forward to the first night in the house... we came back to the house after visiting friends/running errands only to find a substantial amount of water leaking from the 2nd floor laundry room. What seemed like a scene from a movie was happening! After all of the work was complete, a mistake occurred where the washer did not have its drain plug connected after we had Tom install new flooring in the laundry room. It was 9:30pm on Saturday night, and I gave Tom a call to explain what had just transpired. Tom and his assistant took ownership of what happened, drove an hour to the house and helped with the water damage until close to 2am. Tom told us repeatedly that he would make things right and he did. Tom spent the next couple weeks coming by the house, re-positioning fans, doing drywall repair, painting, and much more to make sure things were truly "made right". He even reimbursed us for some of the minor expenses we had in the aftermath of the water damage. Obviously the situation was unfortunate, mistakes do sometimes happen, but we are very thankful that Tom DID stand by his work and did not abandon us after the situation occurred.

    Troy-Bilt Construction
We are very pleased with the work Troy performed. He takes pride in his work and did not cut corners, even when unforeseen challenges added to the complexity of our project. Without us asking, he did things like double band the deck, use all screws instead of nails, replace previously damaged siding with pieces that were removed for the door opening, replace broken pieces of siding with intact pieces that were removed from the doorway cutout, and add insulation in the new doorway. His standard seems to be to do jobs well, the way he would do for his own house. Customer satisfaction is important to Troy. He returned calls promptly and showed up when he said he would. Our new deck is beautiful and well built. I would have no hesitation with calling Troy back for additional projects in the future.

    1. 1st person did a terrible job - Seams didn't fit.
    2.  2nd person came and took down all work of 1st person and redid - excellent workmanship - however one post had scratch marks in it. Worker said he would have office call to discuss resolution. Office never called.

    Integrity Home Contracting
The problem with the work we had done was that the quality was all over the place. The carpenter who did the siding did a great job, and was hard-working. The painters and the plumber, not so much. The painting was poor, the epoxy and caulking they did wasn't of great quality and didn't hold up long. Certain small things weren't finished, and I had to call and have them back several times to finish it. There were enough issues with quality control that I think I'll go with someone else next time.

    Integrity Home Contracting
We contacted Integrity to get an estimate on a large interior painting and minor repair job for a home we own, but rent out.  Around the time Integrity came out to do the estimate, a large piece of our gutter separated from the house.  We re-contacted Integrity, they returned to house and very quickly figured out the problem -- the fascia behind the gutter had rotted -- and gave us an estimate..  Integrity provided the an estimate on the gutter work on a Friday and was able to perform the repairs the following Monday.  Dylon was our POC at Integrity and he was professional and responsive.  The work was done well, on time and on budget (though at the high end of the estimate).  We were completely satisfied with Integrity.

Sales process was painful and was the least enjoyable contracting experience I have ever had. Salesman used a bait-and-switch in the contract and ultimately suckered me out of extra cash to do the work we had originally agreed upon. Then didn't listen to my instructions and wrote the contract for the wrong siding. His boss promised to call and follow up within a week with possible options to remedy. Never called.
Production guys were ok. Enjoyed having them here, even though they scratched up some of my personal possessions, they didn't clean up, they cut the gutter downspout the wrong length, and the quality of their finish work was average at best. But my real issue is with the sales staff. Never again.

Showed up on time,  worked almost non stop for 4 days (they did my windows too).  Workers were clean, hardworking and responsive.  If I had a concern, they addressed it immediately and politely.  Bryant came around and checked on job several times.   Couldn't have been better!!  Followup was great!!   Would use again in a heartbeat!
