    Care Advantage Inc.
Care advantage required that I provide them with my mother's UAI (Universal Assessment Instrument) which I did, so they had complete information about my mother's mental status and her incontinence.  Additionally, I stressed to them that toileting would be required.  They are supposedly professionals and should know what it means to care for an elderly woman who is incontinent and demented.  It's not serving tea and cake.  On the second occasion the aide turned up early at around 7:40 for an 8 am start time.  The assignment was for 10 hours, until 6pm.  I had plenty of time to show the aide the ropes, where my mother's supplies were.  I gave her the 24/7 number at PACE in case of emergencies.  When I returned as scheduled just before 6pm, I found my mother sitting in an armchair which was soaked with urine and where she had spent the WHOLE DAY, urinating and defecating on herself. The stench was overwhelming! THe aide got me to sign something and scuttled off as fast as she could, leaving me to cope with an appalling and shocking state of affairs.  I had to drag the armchair, soaked and stinking, out of my house, and then somehow get my poor mother into the bathtub to clean her up.  She had excrement plastered to her skin all the way to her armpits!  She was slouching down in the chair and it was pushing her feces up her back.  IT was UNSPEAKABLE.  Let us allow that the aide was unable, unprepared whatever you want to deal with a demented woman who needed to be taken to the toilet.  She should have called her supervisor? she should have called me?  she should have called PACE?  She did NOTHING.
Because I was SO traumatized by this horrible event, I decided it would be prudent if I did not call these irresponsible people. I wrote them a well edited email detailing the events as above, because I knew I would be likely to lose my temper or say regrettable things if I were to speak with them in person.  That was on November 16th.  I have never heard so much as a peep from those people.  Not one word.  But I did receive a bill for $210 dollars, $21/hr for 10 hours, again with zero acknowledgment of their entirely inexcusable appalling treatment.
On reflection, I imagine that when there is a stream of $$ pouring forth from government programs, a clutch of business plans will spring up like mushrooms on excrement, to soak them up.  They are not inspired by the idea of providing a needed service, but simply in meeting the guidelines that direct the $$ to their pockets.  Witness the scamming "schools" that spring up when the government is making retraining funds available.  These agencies charge $21/hr and I have learned from a PACE aide who used to work for Care Advantage that they pay the aides the minimum wage; even after 1 year of good work, this aide was told they didn't give raises and they proffered a $100 one time bonus.
Since my need is for a very occasional help out, not a regular assignment it is not easy to see how I will be able to find an individual who might have the professionalism and the skills to connect with my mother and care for her now and then.
I relied on the fact that Care Advantage appeared to be connected to JABA a non profit agency here in CVille, though I don't think they are, they are just in the same building.  JABA might want to reconsider allowing this appearance of connection to exist between themselves and such a dreadful, exploitive business that treats both its aides and its clients so astonishingly badly.  I have found CAREFAMILY SENIOR CARE also listed here on Angie's list which has a different model and allows clients to interview and choose caregivers personally, while performing the background checks and other administrative chores which make this aspect of elder care so burdensome to a private individual.  They have an A rating and 40 good, recent, reviews, so I am hoping that this may be a better system of finding a caregiver.  It may seem nicer to just dial up an aide--but if you use CARE ADVANTAGE BEWARE of what you make get, and they clearly don't give a fig about how well they perform or customer service or anything of that kind.  There is an oversupply of needy elders, so they will just move on to the next overwhelmed caregiver and suck up some more Medicaid/Medicare dollars.

    The TubcuT
This was useful for my family because of joint replacements. The installation was easy and the final product great. This is a terrific alternative tovery costly bathroom remodeling and it leaves the option to return to a traditional tub plus shower very easily.

    Interim HealthCare Inc
Interim is the second home aide service we have used and they are
slightly better than the first but, none the less,we do not intend to
use them again. They provided the requested care if given sufficient
(2-3 day) notice but were less responsive on emergency requests of 24
hours advance notice. For the most part, they handled care around the
clock after hospitalizations. There was a fairly wide range of
capability among the aides. Some of the aides fell asleep during the
overnight sessions and it was necessary to leave the bedroom to awaken
them for assistance. Interim was good about taking those we did not
want off the rotation. Some were very good about assisting in the
mealpreparation and clean-up and the general handling of the household.
A few would even wash, dry, and fold the laundry.. The service,at
about $22/hr, is too expensive for anything except and quot;interimand quot; care.

Overall I would give them a and quot;Cand quot;. Within a couple of months we started have the no-show's and no calls from the CNA's. Although the company would call, if they knew, this didn't provide us with a substitute solution. After one too many of these instances we had to discontinue those services as they were unreliable. When the CNA's did show up they were very attentive to our Dad's needs and we felt he was safe with them.
The nursing staff is A+ but I would say our only issue was they wouldn't come on the days we asked. They set their own schedule and there were times when no one showed up to change his wound dressings. In one instance when no one came for the entire week we were able to get someone in emergency mode and a nurse came on a Saturday. We were very appreciative of this.

They have been great. They really work with me between the doctor calling me prescriptions. There has been a couple of times when they had to head back and forth between seeing the doctor and me. They are really good about keeping on top of it.

We didn't have any dislikes. We found them to be really, really caring. My brother and I were involved in my mom's care and we were knowledgeable about our mom's needs so we conveyed that to them and we got that. I was very happy with them and my mom really loved the physical therapist. The nurse was totally accessible so I could call her anytime and if it was something where I thought she needed to come by, she would come to see what was going on. We didn't have anything negative to say about them. We would use them again if we needed to.

    CPS Home Medical
Almost as soon as my CPAP prescription was sent to this provider, which was recommended by my sleep physician, they contacted me to set an appointment. During the appointment, they fully explained the CPAP device, including use, care, and maintenance. They offered a choice of CPAP face masks and helped with fitting. Overall, they were very helpful and professional.
