    Meade Construction LLC
In my experience, Tracey Meade was rude, offensive, insulting and hard to deal with in any professional way. She demanded to be the contact person for all issues, yet was defensive and curt with every answer to any questions we had.  There were mistakes on the job that had to be corrected (windows where doors should be, wrong flooring installed, wrong calculation of price of patio, etc.) however, when these issues were pointed out, we were literally told, "what do you expect? This is affordable housing"  OMG, it was mid-price housing at the time. We were paying clients!  We had to fight with them about everything - Ex.: missing light in pantry. I had to provide them with written proof it was on the building list before they would put a raw light bulb socket in. Detail work was bad.  Light switches and temp guages were installed in the middle of the walls. They refused to move them because "they were still within code".
The house has been fairly structurally sound. Typical settling issues: cracks in paint everywhere, molding separation. When asked to replace multiple warped doors within the first 6 mos, it was left to the discretion of their "foreman"... therefore, no. He didn't think they were bad enough for replacement (because it would cost them money), so there was no recourse. There was a water leak in bathroom ceiling after 8-9 years. Found out they installed the pipe and cap to the fan vent UPSIDE DOWN so all water from rain and storms came IN instead of out for years!
It was a horrible building experience. I would NEVER recommend them to anyone interested in building or remodeling a home.  I hoped they would go out of business before now.

    DOBSON HOMES
From the very first meeting until subsequent follow up meetings after my home was completed, Dobson homes exceeded my
expectations.   Tommy and his entire team were professional and eager to help me every step of the way.  Tommy told me at the beginning he builds houses as if he were going to personally live there?and I believe it. Tommy is a hands on builder and inspects all phases of construction, which is something that I found to be very reassuring during the build process.  Many times in the construction phase, I was completely ok with the workmanship of his crews, but Tommy would find something that he felt could have been better and had the crews redo to his satisfaction.  In addition to my great experience with Tommy, I enjoyed working with everyone on his team. Christine, Greg, Kerry, Pax at Floors R Us, and Gene at the Granite yard. The entire team was great!
In addition to being a partner on my new home, my home I was selling needed some extensive work done per the new buyer?s inspector.   Tommy quickly met me at my old home and had is team of workers perform the work at a fraction of the cost of other quotes.
I had many people tell me the horror stories of building a custom home or remodel.  I have to admit?I thoroughly enjoyed the entire process.
If I ever decide to build another home?I am going to save a lot of time and just call Tommy at the beginning.

    TEAL CONSTRUCTION
He did the most through look at it. He dug down to make sure I had footings under the post and to make sure that no other posts in that area were rotting. He got a special product to put on posts that are put in the ground so they will not rot, and he had the guys channel around my other posts to put the product on as well so they wouldn't rot in the future. He will explain everything to you. I feel that we are safe from having any further needs of this nature for the next 15 years or so.

    Gibson Brothers Construction, Inc.
The provider resealed my "normal" sized driveway and charged approximately 2-3 times more than other quotes. I ended up going with the provider as they stated that the sealer they use is far superior to the other providers and would last 7-10 years easily, whereas the others would last 1-2 years.  I "bought' that explanation and thought the hassle of not having to seal the asphalt every other year would be well worth it.
Well, fast-forward 3 years later and the driveway is not doing well--most of the "sealer" is now gone and was so after 2 years. I contacted the provider, and to their credit they came out to inspect the driveway. They then compared it to a neighbor's driveway that has never been sealed and said my driveway looks great...
In don't feel like they are trustworthy overall and feel like they "upsold" me on a service.

    WESTON CONSTRUCTION
Professional, beautiful job.  Todd and his team are a pleasure to work with.  He really understood our needs, and helped us make decisions to get great quality while considering price.  He is thoughtful and hard working, and his lead carpenter is very talented.

    Southern Development Homes
What a great experience! They have taken good care of us. I was anxious about the whole process of building-- you know-- it can stressful on a marriage to make so may big decisions :-) But it was easy. They gave us space to make decisions when we wanted space and held our hand when we needed some guidance. It was a lot of fun actually. We've had some very minor things come up in the first few months we've lived here-- a light switch was reversed and a door needed adjustment-- stuff like that. We called and their service employee was here the next day to take care of it. No hassle, just good prompt service with a smile. Very refreshing.

    Specialty Construction
In July 2013, I paid the owner of Specialty Construction, Chris Morgan, $5,000 as a deposit to remodel my home in the Lake Reynovia neighborhood in Charlottesville.  After weeks of promises, no drawings or work had been done.  I finally decided not to do the project.  Chris promised again and again, using many different excuses, to return the money to me.  Six weeks ago, he stopped returning phone calls.  A horrifying experience, with no end in sight.  I wish I knew what to do next.

    I&J Home Builders LLC
At first they were quite responsive and helpful, but after about a month of planning details of the home to be constructed, they suddenly stopped communicating. Granted, this was a small project (a small, about $100k-150k new house), so they probably just decided to focus on larger projects. Still, it would have been nice to have some closure from them.

    T GREER & ASSOCS INC
Tom jumped on board with 100% enthusiasm, and has maintained that enthusiasm. His team show up to-the-moment-on-time, work tirelessly all day, and leave with a thank you. When Tom Greer calls a subcontractor, they answer and rush to him. They are grateful and excited to be working on his projects. Knowledgeable, compassionate, inventive, detailed, reliable, resourceful, green, diligent, and every positive adjective you can imagine.
