    5th Gen Group
I can't say enough great things about 5th Gen Group. Christian, his partner, Jess and his crew headed by Hector are hands down, top notch. From initial contact to project completion, Christian was responsive, professional, knowledgeable, resourceful and creative. He sat with me to talk about the look I wanted, helped direct me in choices so that I was not overwhelmed and told me exactly when he was able to execute the project and did so; in, out, perfect! Not only was he able to understand the big picture, but he understood small nuances. I wanted heavy french doors; the feel of a big old brown stone. When I told this to Christian, it was no problem; who knew that you could weight them to make them as heavy as you desired! He also was thoughtful of others by hoping to donate the old windows to Habitat for Humanity - that was impressive and right up my alley. When we were discussing lighting desires prior to the project, I was unsure if I wanted 4 or 6. When the project started, I had not said anything to Christian but I was concerned that 4 was not going to be enough. When Christian showed up, he had 6; just in case; now THAT is experience. He re-purposed items in my house such as a door and a fan; that saved me money and made a big difference in the look of the house. As he was working on one project, I developed a leak in the roof. Lickity split, Christian fixed it. I was debating on gym flooring and had random mirrors. He helped me find the perfect floor at the right price and hung the mirrors so something originally hodge podge now looks fantastic. Hector and his crew, he is now known to me as "Super Boy". Doesn't that just say it all? He was timely, courteous, clean, thoughtful and knowledgeable. I was flabbergasted when I asked him if there was any paint left and he told me that he had put it back in the unfinished part of the basement where I store the paint; really? I am already developing a list for the phase of work with 5th Gen Group. They are a blessing to any home owner.

    F&C Enterprises
    The experience was abysmal.

Frank Flanagan sat at my kitchen table and promised to fix all the things that were done wrong if I just paid the next increment. I provided a generous partial payment with his assurance he would return the next day to begin correcting the loose and falling stone facing as well as the cartoonish finish work on the stamped concrete patio and to begin the next section of the patio.  Instead, he pulled off of the jobsite, has not finished the work and has not repaired ANY of the defects.

He poured and stamped the first of four sections (about 600 square feet and about 10 cubic yards) of the more than 2400 square foot patio that must now be completely removed in order to redo that work and finish the job.  He used the wrong concrete and wrong color and the surface is covered with footprints and knee prints.  In addition to the patio debacle, all of the stone has completely separated from a 30 foot wall that he did - which he concealed with plastic covering.  Closer inspection of the mortar indicates too little cement and poor mixing as there are rivulets of unmixed sand in the mortar which comes off the stone easily.  Rather than installing the stone upon footer, Frank installed the stone on frozen dirt instead.  The fire pit is not centered on the sitting wall and a portion of it is shaped more like an igloo - it has to be deconstructed and rebuilt.  The adjacent sitting wall and the stone faced piers are unfinished and have loose stones and crumbling mortar throughout.

The job started about 2/17/2014 and was supposed to take no more than 18 days, start to finish.  Even allowing for the inclement weather, the job was less than half done when he left the jobsite for the last time and the work that was done has to be redone..

This man lied to me at my kitchen table with my general contractor present, took me for about $11,000 and ran.  I've attached only a few of the many pictures that demonstrate the pathetic craftsmanship of this amateur.

    Don't get taken.  Buyer Beware!

    Steadfast Construction Inc
This was a long process due to the extensive requirements of the country zoning board.  Salesman Josh was instrumental in getting us started on the right path for the process by making direct contacts at the zoning office and getting the appropriate paperwork.  Steadfast then waited patiently 7 months as the special permit process evolved through the county's extensive and nit-picky requirements.  (This was the hardest part, and a whole different story.)  One of the zoning officials complimented the many technical drawings that Steadfast had to generate for the application process.  These same drawings made it a breeze to receive HOA permissions.  We were very appreciative of the time spent by the many employees of Steadfast as we asked many questions.  They were readily available by email, office phone, cell phone, and face-to-face meetings.
On-site work time was a breeze for us as the owners.  Matt took care of all construction needs, keeping materials, tools, and debris to a bare minimum each day.  He was always ready to explain what he was doing and offered knowledgeable feedback when we needed to make decisions.  The additional workers were polite and considerate, and did their work on a high professional level.  Co-owner Kenny came out several times to check on progress and keep us in the loop regarding payments.
The finished screened-in porch and decks are works of art.  Matt added several touches that went beyond "just building a porch."  We have received compliments from our neighbors about the looks and quality.  The porch does not look like an add-on; it looks like it is, and has always been, a part of the house.  It was fun to hear Kenny, upon seeing the finished porch for the first time, honestly blurt out, "Wow!"  We agree.
We thank Steadfast for hanging in there with us as we maneuvered through the special permit process.  That process was so devastating, and took up so much time, that we almost said, "Forget it."  We are truly glad that we did not.  Now, on to new furniture!

    Ridge Line Builders Inc
It was fine until the heat pump air conditioner started to malfunction and we found out that the unit was too small for the room.

He tried to blame the distributor about that problem. He misled me. He is refusing to answer any emails or any phone calls. He was supposed to get back to the distributor and has failed to do that also.

He did, after 2 weeks, contact me and recommended another unit be installed, but with no assurances the second unit will work.  After emailing that the replacement unit would be ordered on Nov. 14 no unit was ever ordered and Ridge Line Builders has not responded to further emails or phone calls.  Complaint resolution has not gotten a response.  We are left with no heat in this room.

    Prince William Home Improvement
I did have some minor issues with being contacted about the project (they didn't) as I was told would happen by the sales consultant, but found later that two different consultants I had worked with had both left the company (which may explain this).  I always had very good and quick responses when I contacted them about the project, too.
They sales consultants I worked with were not extremely helpful with design (this wouldn't be a problem for people who know exactly what they want), as we had a general idea of what we wanted but were hoping for some ideas and didn't get many.  However, after finally deciding on a lay-out the rest of the project went extremely well.
The deck & porch were finished VERY quickly (~7 working days for entire project!), and as I said before I was EXTREMELY happy with the quality and final product (their attention to little things that improve the quality and look was very good, as well and using top quality materials and overall quality).

    NVS Kitchen and Bath
We looked for a very long time to find just the right contractor to remodel our home. We finally contracted with NVS Remodeling and Design after having seen their work in a friends home who raved about how great they were to work with. We decided that we would start with the kitchen and if that went well would have them do the other areas of the house we also wanted remodeled. That was over two years ago and since then they have remodeled not only the kitchen but also the laundry room, four and half bathrooms(including extensive master bathroom), baseemnt (which included a theater, guest room, bathroom, kitchenette and storage room). The last bathroom was just completed in September 2012.
From the initial visit to everyone we came in contact with (including the sub contractors), we discovered a high level of professionalism and a desire to meet our expectations. All of the employees and Glenn are extremely easy to work with and listened to what we wanted. They worked hard to make sure we were happy with each phase. We started with Alison their designer who we found to be both knowledgable and very creative. She helped us to navigate all the possibilities to create the perfect kitchen and bathrooms. Next everyone from NVS met us at our house to walk through what was to be done to make sure the job went smoothly and everything was what we had envisioned. NVS always puts a head carpenter on the job to be there everyday, not only to do the carpentry but to oversee the entire job from start to finish. It's here we met Billy Monteith the head carpenter in chage of our job. We have come to know Billy very well over the last two years he is a very skilled Master Carpenter with a great deal of paitence (necessary with our crasy house full of kids and cats). It was comforting to know that he would be here to work with the sub contraactors, receive deliveries and answer any questions that came up.
Our house looks so beautiful now! I love working in the kitchen (never thought I would say that) and the master bathroom is hard to leave. There isn't one person that walks through the house that isn't imressed by the quality of the work. We have referred NVS to others who have also had a great experience and thanked us for the recomendation. You should feel very comfortable knowing you will get top notch service and quality work when you choose NVS Remodeling and design.

    American Exteriors & Masonry
They did a really good job on the patio and front walk.  I gave them the idea of what I was thinking.  Then they helped me pick out the stone to match the house.  They had a lot of great ideas, and they were very quick once they got going.  It was very easy to work with them.  Carmen the owner, even came over to check out what was going on.  I did a bit of comparison shopping,  and their pricing is in the ballpark.  I can't wait for them to get started on the porch.

    A & L Construction
Keith was very responsive to the call for an estimate. We met promptly, talked through the project thoroughly. He listened to what we wanted, offered a few suggestions regarding placement of the screened porch, and took lots of notes to help with estimate. The itemized estimate was received quickly, and provided everything we needed for HOA approval. The actual work was done by Earl--he is a great guy, personable, professional and meticulous. Keith checked in often and kept us well informed throughout the process. The porch and deck are beyond great--not only finished on time and on budget (and beautiful!), but with incredible attention to detail that will make this area one we will be proud to use and enjoy!

ABC was great from start to finish. When I first called, they responded quickly and professionally. I have never had a work crew in my home as friendly and polite as these guys. They work hard, and get it right the first time. ABC was on time, and on budget. I am so happy with the beautiful work they've done!!
