    Collegiate Sealers & Paving
Collegiate sealed my driveway and was very responsive to my needs as a customer. I had some issues with the workmanship at first, but one phone call made everything right. Great service and my driveway is protected and looking good.

Initial treatment was done poorly. Followup discussion with company management was strongly negative (on their part). They defended their approach and technique, both without agreeing to come by to see the problems I reported. The work had been done on a private drive, and all three of us agreed that the work was poor. I encountered the "rep" by chance as he came to the house unexpectedly. Once again, he denied the obvious issues, and was combative. Several days later, I was called by the company owner, who was both contrite and supportive. He agreed to redo the work at no additional charge, which was done. The second crew which did this work was considerably better at it, an observation shared by the other homeowners. I shared our complements with the company via a follow-up email, but never got a response of any kind. NOTE: The technique used to "seal cracks." while apparently commonplace, is a poor one. Instead of minimizing the appearance of those cracks, then technique actually draws considerable additional attention thereto, by creating a 6" - 8" wide stripe surrounding the crack. Additionally, the approach of "filling the cracks with sand", and then coating with tar just doesn't work, with the cracks opening/reappearing almost immediately after treatment. In the present case, even after a second "filling," some of the cracks still have not been totally filled. It seems only logical that any company doing this kind of work as their main source of income would be receptive to new ideas/approaches to doing the job better. Several products are available on the market which could be used to fill cracks effectively, and in a considerably less unattractive way. Efforts to explain this to the company (I'm a former general contractor myself) seem to have fallen on deaf ears.

I was entirely pleased with the whole thing.  Obviously they were looking for business and we're not local for them.  Although around here a lot of folks would consider that about 35 miles away is local even though it means crossing a mountain range and all that.  He came and there was no charge for the visit.  Again he was looking for business.  He also has qualifications that certain others don't so a lot of his business as the title says environmental services.  One of which would be providing permeable surfaces.  He seemed to know what he was talking about so I had confidence in that.  He was not 100% confident that the surface that he might provide would be entirely appropriate for the landscape.  That's one of the difficulties because it's mountainous.  Our builder is not eager to commit to something that there's a chance where he himself is going to have to come back and fix it.  So as enthusiastic as you might be about permeable surfaces that's a risk.  So we haven't decided if we're going to pursue this to the bitter end.  I really don't have any recommendations on areas they could improve on.  He made a good impression.  On price, I would say worldwide in the English speaking world he's extremely competitive and in the non-English speaking world, he probably does pretty well there too.  This technology is so global, except for North Carolina of course, so he's quite good.  Also, he's willing to show up and oversee the installation.  We're talking about using labor for this that has no experience at it.  It was a very positive experience.  He was very responsive.

Couldn't have asked for better. Collegiate's estimate was lower than others, but they also did a more thorough job of explaining the labor and time involved. The work was beautifully done, on the date we agreed, and they finished before I got home. My neighbors reported that the workmen had been courteous and they were even careful with my plants.

The crew was prompt and the work was excellent. They were in and out in four hours. They were polite and cleaned up thoroughly at the end of the job. Some of our neighbors watched while the job was ongoing and commented on the quality workmanship. We've never had so many compliments on a driveway. We highly recommend Collegiate Sealers and Paving.

    H.F. Asphalt
This was our first experience using an Angie's list contractor and HL Asphalt did not disappoint us.  Hugh was very helpful analyzing our needs, explaining different options to fix our driveway.  It was clear from our discussions, that he and the company is very experienced in the paving business.  He was on the job site from start to finish, and provided excellent instruction and description of the process.  The price for the service was very good, and the work was competed within 2 weeks of signing the contract.  We could not be more pleased and feel this was an excellent first experience with Angie List contractors.

    JLS Paving LLC
The work provided for my family is superb. They cut individual stones to make up this beautiful walk way.
My family is very very happy with the work done and asked me to write a review to let JLS Paving/Joe know how pleased they are.  The level of professionalism, caring work was over and above what was expected.  We highly recommend this company.
They did a fantastic job.  It looked so good we hesitated to walk on it :)

(Post Script My parents did not know about Angie's list or any discount that could have been applied.  They wanted to help           JLS Paving because they did such a wonderful job.  My entire family is very happy with the job)

    Superior Driveways
While the driveway initially looked aesthetically pleasing, we quickly realized that the driveway was sloped incorrectly, which caused water to flow into our detached garage.  To resolve this issue, a valley was created to channel the water away from the garage.  Definitely not the optimal solution, which would have been re-grade the affected area. Nearly three months passed before the corrective action took place.
We now have begun to experience areas of the driveway that are sinking, likely due to having inadequate amount of base material.
The work conducted was very sloppy.  They left their equipment on the concrete pad between our house and garage, which leaked oil and stained the concrete.  They used our building materials without requesting permission and left our backyard a total wreck with debris that include chunks of asphalt and concrete, which we still find to this day surging up through the ground.

    Collegiate Sealers & Paving
Initial resurfacing did not go well.  It was done hastily and with seemingly little care or quality control.  You could literally see large areas where the original driveway surface was still visible because it had not been adequately resealed.  The company was very responsive after I forwarded pictures to them of the less than adequate job that had been done.  They sent a team out very quickly to redo the driveway and it was done properly and with great care the second time around.  Driveway looks great.  I must admit that the team leader for the redo seemed disgusted and angry when he came to redo my house.  Perhaps he was just having a bad day - but regardless, the redo was flawless.  The advice I have is don't arrange any appointment that yiou are not personally there to inspect the results of while the team is still onsite.  I would think twice before using Collegiate again but probably would hire them if I took my own advice and was at home to inspect their work while they were still onsite.
