    HIVEX Basement Finishing Co.
Hivex provided exactly what they said they would provide at exactly the price they quoted. It was the best hire I've ever had. They are very professional, extremely courteous, always on time and the easiest people to talk with. My only regret is that I have only one basement. But I couldn't be happier with the service and if you're looking to finish your basement, you need to at least give them a call.

    HIVEX Basement Finishing Co.
We hired HIVEX to finish our basement. After reading numerous reviews HIVEX stood out. Plenty of the homes in our neighborhood have used and recommend HIVEX to complete their basement. From our first interaction with the office to meeting Dan and going over the estimate, I was sold that HIVEX would be our best bang for the buck. The team showed up July 5th ready to rock and roll. Basement was framed out quickly and we were off to the races. Bob was great to work with as the PM. I had non stop questions and he took the time to answer them for me. It took just under 3 months to complete the project though the majority of work was completed in 2 months - minor issues like waiting on crown molding to come in delayed the project some. All in all the wife and I could not be happier with the basement and the honesty that HIVEX afforded to us. I would recommend them to anyone looking to finish their basement.

    HIVEX Basement Finishing Co.
We hired Hivex to install a large family room and bathroom in our unfinished basement, along with a pantry, closet, and new exterior door. Overall, we are thrilled with this company and would hire them again! We really appreciated the thoroughness of their work and that they worked with us to keep our tight budget on track. During the initial quote/paperwork process, the owner, Dan, provided suggestions of items to cut to keep us on budget that we were happy to do ourselves (contrast this with another company that gave us a quote, who constantly tried to upsell and add-on work). And they didn't nickel-and-dime us, which took a lot of stress out of the project and really earned our trust. Their staff were all very courteous and professional. The project was completed on time and fairly smoothly. There were a few minor issues, things that held up the project a bit, normal stuff that you'd expect with any construction job of this scale - but Bob, our project manager, resolved them to our satisfaction, and was thorough about wrapping up several lingering details of our project. We would definitely recommend Hivex and appreciate their job well done for our beautiful new basement!

    Two By Four Construction LLC
Junior and John showed up early in the morning having picked up a previously purchased storm door. It was absolutely freezing outside, and I was surprised they even showed up! Both Junior and John were extremely polite, courteous and professional. Due to the extreme cold, repairing the door jamb and replacing the existing storm door took longer than I would normally expect, but these gentlemen did an excellent job, and I would highly recommend for anyone needing their services.

    Andrewz Homes & Renovation
Excellent! Quick note that this is a late review; work was done at the end of 2015 (I just never joined Angie's list until now). So first experience was the quote, John came over and was very friendly and helpful; he shot out some good ideas and was very agreeable to everything I was hoping to accomplish. We had bad experiences with other contractors that came over to quote us, mostly way over my target price (I had done my homework on price expectations), others just not helpful in terms of ideas. John's was super helpful and the price came in right around my expectations. The quality of work was great, everything was completed on time (there was a little delay with the scheduling of the inspector, but wasn't their fault; the actual work was done on time). John was very helpful and was willing to make reasonable changes without charge. Note that other contractors who quoted us said they would charge us for any change to the scope even if the work hadn't started yet; made us pretty uncomfortable... John however stated he wouldn't charge us for any changes that don't affect materials or cause extra time, and he stuck by it! We were very happy! He even fixed the location of some speaker wire for me after the drywall was up; I can admit that was an unreasonable request on my part.... but he was cool about it and fixed it for me even though it meant he had to re-do some dry wall work; A+ for customer service! Overall it's been over a year now, and we're incredibly happy with our basement. We've had no issues since the work was done and we'd definitely hire them again.

    Helping Hands Handyman Services LLC
Nelson Best was very punctual and courteous. He called us a half hour before the appointment time to let us know he was coming. He was very attentive around the items in the house. He worked quickly and efficiently. He came two different times to complete the work above.

    Window World of DC Inc
We chose window world for their "lifetime warranty", a few months after installation two parts of our door broke. We placed the service call in June. Now, in late November, the part is still broken, and the door not able to be used. We have had several no-shows by servicemen, missed appointments, phone calls not returned, management who is hired and leave the company within a week who do not turn the case over. This morning we were promised by Anthony Lloyd a repairman was coming to replace our door. The appointment time came and went, and when I called Anthony claimed his worker was "told by someone he doesn't remember" that our appointment had been canceled. This company lies, avoids contact, and provides the worst in service. I would like to go back and choose any other company but this one!

    McCoy Construction LLC.
We had an unpleasant experience with this contractor. We do not recommend anyone use them for their remodeling job. They were unprofessional with us and rude to us during the course of our business relationship, although we were never that way to them. Before the job and business relationship was completed, the contractor attacked us personally and made an empty threat to put a mechanic's lien on our property even though we had paid them a substantial amount of money toward our final project total, and the job was not yet completed. We don't think any customer would want a contractor that threatens them and treats them that way. They had little supervision on the job site, often leaving a work crew that had a difficult time with English. This led to many cases of mistakes and miscommunication about instructions. This caused delays and work had to be re-done in some cases. Personnel on the job site left their personal trash all over our house, which we frequently had to clean up. Some employees cursed and shouted on the job site while we were home complaining about the job and having to work. That made my wife and her 75 year old mother uncomfortable. As we were dealing with them via phone toward the end of the job, the wife of the owner of the company confided to us that they were not in fact a remodeling company, but they were "house flippers". She indicated they buy up houses in foreclosure and then fix them up for resale. We can't rate the carpeting, or the wood flooring, or the glass shower install because they were all done by 3rd party contractors. We can say that McCoy Construction does know how to do construction and repairs, and they seem proficient at carpentry, exterior painting, window and door replacement, tiling, plumbing and electrical work. We feel that this contractor is sub-standard in their interior painting capabilities. My primary complaint is that I specifically requested they paint the interior with care, using painter's tape and sharp clean edging. As I supervised the job, there were a majority of times that I watched as the painting crews applied paint without any drop cloths or tape. This resulted in dozens of places getting painted where it shouldn't like on the granite counter tops, as an example. A simple application of tape would have prevented this. The exterior painting was good, but we had problems with the interior painting including drywall sanding dust not being contained to the work space due to poor airborne dust management. Dust got all over our home and everything in it. Paint was also not contained at times to the room being painted, due to spray gun application, coupled with poor airborne particle management. Many of our personal belongings were covered in paint, which took extensive time to clean up. Some of our possessions are still covered in paint. Some areas of the interior did not receive enough paint and looked unfinished. The contractor was so difficult to deal with that as the project came to a close we decided not to pursue paint remediation, because we needed to close on the property and no longer trusted the contractor. Therefore, we do not hold the contractor responsible for the final state of the interior painting as a finished product. It was by our choice as the customer that we opted not to go back to perform more painting. When the project started we offered to get most of our belongings out of the house to make the remodel job easier. We moved nearly all of our belongings to storage at a cost of $3500 for 2 large units, and $2200 in moving costs over the course of months that the project went on. We feel however, that when a contractor is remodeling a home that is being lived in, they need to be experienced enough in working around the contents and people within the home. The contractor seemed furious that we didn't completely empty the home as if it was new construction or a "flip". I am medically ill, and there were limits to what we could do to accommodate the contractor. I was up front with the contractor about it. Our project was ~$8,000 over budget. Most of that were change orders we requested during the project. Still, we believe that 1/3 of that amount was due to challenges and obstacles that came up with the work, that the contractor did not anticipate as a remodeling professional. We would also like to say that while we expected our remodeling job to take 3 weeks, it took months. The contractor was not dedicated to our job, and our job sometimes had to wait because the contractor was working many other jobs. We would like to make it clear that this review would be rated much higher, but due to the excessively unprofessional, rude and disrespectful way the Contractor treated us, particularly the owner and his wife, the rating was lower. We would not use this contractor ever again, and don't recommend them. We would like to say officially that we payed McCoy Construction just under $40,000.00 and the job was completed and the work finalized by all parties. No work was left unfinished by the contractor, and business was concluded and the business relationship ended successfully upon final payment.

    Zen Windows of Washington DC
Get a quote from ZEN. You will be pleasantly surprised definitely not be disappointed.
We've been researching and quoting windows for about a year and had 5 potential contractors come out to give us a quote. If you think dealing with a used car salesman is bad wait until you quote a window project. High pressure tactics, overstated energy savings, badmouthing and misrepresenting competing products,  2 hour sales pitches and overpriced products that get shuffled and reshuffled into "comfortable monthly payment" plan for the next 200 years at ridiculous rates...we heard them all. While doing more window research on the internet I came across some home improvement forums discussing similar sales nightmares as we were having and then someone mentioned ZEN Windows and their approach to the window projects. I was skeptical, but figured we already survived 5 sales pitches so what's one more? If anything looked wrong, I would  just pull out without wasting more time.
ZEN is everything they say they are and more. I went online, filled out an online form and within minutes I was e-mailing with Scott (the DC area Franchise Owner). He e-mailed me his product brochures and full warranty information that include all the little print, I e-mailed him my window and door measurements and he sent me a complete and very competitive quote that same evening. The price he quoted was so surprising, I thought "there's gotta be a catch, there is going to be something extra thrown in at the end", but no the price did not change from start to finish. In fact it got lower after we switched out some windows for different types. Anyway, we had the windows for two weeks and are very happy. The install took a little longer than expected, but the crew was diligent, neat and the results look great. Out of 29 windows, I have one that is somewhat difficult to open (hence B for quality), but I am sure that ZEN will address it under warranty after I let them know about it.
