He was very professional and very knowledgeable. He even went the extra mile helping out replacing the light post. Excellent communication from start to finish, he was right on time with everything. I would recommend him to everybody.

We moved from Florida, into a renovated house in Roanoke Virginia, after an exhaustive search. The house, although beautifully renovated, left a few areas that really needed attention. Our basement was half-finished, providing us with a family room, including a wet bar. But the other side of the basement, which herein shall be called "the dungeon" was a dark, raw, fully exposed area. There was a washer/dryer hookup, but that was all. My wife hated it. Exposed wood, cement floor... cavernous. We hired Martin Services, here in Roanoke, VA, to do the renovation. Dan Martin gave us a very fair bid on the project, and we accepted. We described what we wanted: - frame out an area approximately 12x12, into a laundry room, with 4 walls, and a door into the remaining storage area. - all of the pipes, dryer exhaust, and heating ducts to be enclosed. - a drop ceiling put in with new LED lighting. - ceramic tile installed. - three cabinets installed, with an L-Shaped counter top. - a sink in the counter-top, with a detachable hand sprayer. All of this, plus the electrical work, plumbing, painting and finishing. Dan and his crew were courteous, always on time (and a lot of this was over the Christmas holidays), and very expert in their work. Dan made sure we were happy with every phase of the project, always communicating with us. Everything was completed to our extreme satisfaction. The room is no longer a dungeon. In fact, my wife looks for laundry to do, just to hang out in the room. I would hire Martin Services for any project, and would recommend them to anyone looking for a competent, fair, professional and very friendly contractor.

    Appalachian Building Concepts
We hired Appalachian Building Concepts a few years ago for a Bathroom re-model and were thrilled with the results. Mike was the first person I thought of when we were discussing the new projects noted, this time for our in-laws who recently moved in with us. Having worked with Mike and Lou before I knew we might have to wait for another job to finish, but I knew their work was quality, so we were willing to do so. Fortunately, they had an opening in the schedule that we happily filled. My grade of A on the price I must qualify by saying that while Appalachian Building Concepts isn't the cheapest, they use quality materials, and the company does quality work. I must also note that our project came in under what he quoted us, which is always a nice thing for a customer. For the discerning customer who reads these reviews, please also understand that sometimes there are unexpected complications that are encountered on-the-job, that weren't counted on in the initial pricing. For this reason, you may want to consider the quote a "best estimate" rather than an exact figure - having worked with more than a few contractors, this isn't unusual, but I can say I've only ever known Applachian Building Concepts to be fair and honest in their business with me and my family with regard to price. Mike knows this, but for the sake of this review, yes, I'd absolutely hire again and plan to do so soon. We are very happy with the new vinyl fence - this was the first item completed, and gives us an extra option for the dogs (ours and our in-laws') with concern to extra space for them to wander without wandering off, while also providing great curb appeal. The job also entailed installing a shower and Washer/Dryer hookup where none previously existed, so some plumbing was required - We're very happy with the end result, and Appalachian Building Concepts also fixed some previous plumbing such that our workroom sink drain is now hidden instead of just emptying into a floor drain from a PVC pipe. We also had Applalachian Building Concepts put in a new Kitchenette with Sink for our in-laws. It has transformed what was just a large living room into a true "in-law suite" for my wife's parents. Lastly, to make all this work, we had to move our electric master panel over to another room approximately 10 feet away from where it was, and upgrade the service. This part was subcontracted, but Mike managed to find from a previous working relationship on our behalf an electrician who could not only do the job at a great price compared to the other two quotes he got, but could start right away, whereas the other electricians wouldn't be able to start for weeks. Overall, highly satisfied, and would recommend to anyone looking for these types of projects.

Dan is extremely personable and easy to work with. While it may take time until he is available, it is worth the wait. The job isn't finished until the customer is happy. On a side note, Martin Services was one of two companies through AngiesList that met our criteria. After a very short phone conversation, he's the same Dan Martin who was our neighbor and built our deck 30 years ago! He asked me if it's still standing....it is!

ABC was fantastic at tackling our very large remodeling project. We completely redesigned the layout of the kitchen, dining room, and garage entry. ABC's end result is exactly what we visioned from the beginning! Now our kitchen is open to our outside spectacular views and our first floor fits all our needs. We look forward to bringing ABC back to complete future projects, they are hands down an awesome team.

Mike Motley was a pleasure to work with.  The first day they beat me to the job site, and they even walked the dog I had on premises for me.  They started when they said they would, and the whole project was completed in a little over a week. A few things came up that were unexpected, but Mike treated me fairly on those items.  I thought the price was fair for the work performed.

There were a lot of hurdles due to the original builders. Mike and lou moved all of the plumbing. That involved moving the pressure tank and water heater. They had to cut up the concrete floor to move drains for tub, shower, toilet and vanity. They had to reframe the entire area 1500sf., then rewired all new circuits. They insulated the walls and installed moisture and vapor barrier. Then installed drywall with trayed ceilings with rope lights concealed behind crown molding. They installed an engineered bamboo flooring. The bathroom is beautiful. My shower stall has pebble tiled floor with custom porcelain tile walls, with an accent strip of stones. They put in two shower niches with three shower heads and two shower valves. with all brushed nickel hardware. they installed a frameless frosted glass shower door. They did excellent work as always. this is my fourth major project by Mike, and I will use them to build my next project which will be a garage!

We found this company on Angie's List and hired them based on the positive reviews. Good decision. Mike, the owner, responded promptly to my email and followed up with a visit to our home. His price sounded fair. We scheduled the work. Everything was done on time and to our complete satisfaction. Lou, who did the installation, was very professional, prompt, personable AND, remarkably, cleaned up every spec of sawdust before he left. Very unusual! We were pleased enough that Mike and Lou are currently remodeling our deck ... November 2014.

We are highly satisfied with Appalachian Building Concepts performance on what we asked them to do.  We originally had an appointment with a different company to give us an estimate on our bathroom, but I quickly canceled that appointment when consulting Angie's List.  While canceling that other company's appointment with us, I noticed that Appalachian Building Concepts had such excellent reviews on Angie's List, and that Mike had taken the time to reply to each of his customers within the review.  It convinced me that I should call him and I'm very happy with that decision.  Mike was able to meet with us very soon after I called him, and we described what we wanted to do in the bathroom.  He offered suggestions and also offered to let us call references if we wanted to check on the quality of his work.  His estimate was reasonable and his available start time fit our hoped-for timeframe. When Mike and his team began work, they performed the work as quickly as one could expect while still maintaining high quality, and were highly professional.  They took a little longer than they originally thought they would, and I spent a bit more on the job than the original estimate, but this was due to unexpected complications with the work that weren't apparent when Mike gave the estimate - one such item was replacing our large vanity cabinet because of not apparent water damage to the back of the cabinet.  While this did cost a bit more, I'd guess that Mike ended up saving me money on this replacement by referring me to someone who did an excellent job in making a new cabinet to fix the space at a price that was very reasonable.  Mike always provided as much detail to me as I requested on pricing (and sometimes more than I requested, which I appreciated), and it was a good experience dealing with someone who is honest and stands by their work, and can offer good recommendations for things like the vanity cabinet.  Mike's employees that I had a chance to talk to on-site were also great people, and spoke highly of Mike as an employer, and I think that is important as well.  I would absolutely recommend Mike and Appalachian Building Concepts to anyone looking for work on their home, and in fact recommended him to my mother for some work she wanted done already.

We initially had Travis come out to hang a light fixture in our tall foyer, fix nonworking kitchen outlets, contain a live wire in the basement and quote us for installing recessed lighting. They did a thorough walk through of our home and identified several safety concerns, including expired smoke/carbon monoxide detectors among other things. They fixed the kitchen outlets during that first visit and we scheduled for the remaining work to be done the next week. They were on time every day, clean and professional. We had no worries with leaving them in our home alone. They work was done timely and done right! We will use Travis again for our electrical needs.
