Home Builder reviews in Blacksburg

    Appalachian Construction & Maintenance LLC
All aspects of the work, from initial evaluation, planning, pricing, timely completion and craftsmanship were outstanding. I have worked with residential contractors on many projects over the last 30+ years, including construction of a new home. Never have I had such a favorable experience, as with this contractor. He saw to it that there were no deviations from the design plan and schedule. Crews came early and worked late, even coming in weekends, if needed to stay on schedule. In all aspects, the commitment to quality of the work and finish was the main concern. While the work was underway and unforeseen issues or modification possibilities for improving the end result came up, the contractor was there, personally, to give us suggestions and choices. In fact, the contractor was on-site 90% of the time, supervising his crew. The result was efficient progress and precision in the work. I expect to do other home updates in the future and hope to work with this company again. I give the highest possible recommendation to Appalachian Construction and Maintenance for anyone planning to do residential remodeling and construction projects; their service coverage area includes the New River Valley, Roanoke Valley, and other parts of SW Virginia. In presenting this review, I assure readers that I have received no special consideration, financial or otherwise, from Appalachian Construction and Maintenance LLC, nor do I have any personal or family relationship with the company or any of its employees. The approximate cost, show below, includes both the kitchen remodel in 2016 plus the bathroom, powder room, study, and bedroom remodeling in 2017.

    Goose Creek Builders LLC
We are extremely happy with the work that Goose Creek Builders has done for us, and are very thankful to have found someone we can depend on for quality work and fair prices. Sean knows how to fix most anything the right way, and will do a great job outlining options for any work that needs to be done. He is always there when he says he will be; we would recommend him without hesitation for any building project, large or small.

show up on time and ready to work.  The price was right.  He was cheerfully able to work with a state agency providing the funds.  He finished in a timely manner.  He left the property neat, tidy and definitely corrected the problem area.  I have since hired him for other projects.  He repaired my front porch roof which was leaking due to previous roofer having done it incorrectly.  Sean was able to replace only the area that was problematic, thus making the repair affordable.  It is a perfect match to the old roof and doesn't leak.  In addition he repaired interior water damage from a separate roof leak after stopping this leak also.

    Danny Saunders
Danny is detail oriented and provided his recommendations for Simonton window replacements. He was punctual and worked efficiently.  He is friendly and can get to talking but he also has a great work ethic so you will not be cheated in any way.  He is honest (a Christian), clean, and did an outstanding job replacing 17 windows in my home over 3 days.  He used spray foam to insulate at my request and was really great about it because he had not used this product yet.  We had a few minor issues that Simonton had to correct after installation and Danny was there to see to it it was done properly (so no worries about being satisfied or feeling abandoned).
I absolutely will use him again in the future and am grateful to the friend that recommended him to me.

    JOHN M WEIMER CONSTRUCTION
John came in and provided the expertise to refit my shower space to allow for a larger and more accommodating fully tiled shower which included an elaborate tile pattern. He did not leave until it was done! His charge was more than reasonable.
I couldn't be happier with his work.

    C.R. Browne Construction
We have a 40+ yr old home and have been doing renovations over many years but are now placing the home up for sale. It is a 5,000 s.f. home which badly needed upgrading of the walls (textured plaster had be replaced with smooth plaster), outdated doors, trim, baseboard and door hardware was all replaced and kitchen plus wet bar were redone with new granite countertops, sinks, wet bar refigerator, wine cooler and cabinets installed. The oak parquet flooring was covered with new manufactured wood flooring, a brick floor in entry foyer was removed and new stone tile installed. All carpeting was removed and replaced throughout the home. Prior false tudor style beams in living room and electric candelabra fixture were removed and and recessed lighting installed after the ceiling was also replastered. The master bedroom lighting was redone with recessed lighting. The lot/study had a railing that would not meet code and this had to be redone with beautiful oak railing that matches the wood flooring and cathedral ceiling. New fans were placed in the dining. living and family rooms. New hardware on four 8 ft sliders to the outside deck was installed. The grout on one deck was removed and new grout installed. A second floor deck had tbe replaced with epoxy-on-plywood floor and new railings that would meet code. Two electric subpanels that would not meet code had to be replaced.  Most rooms were repainted and outside deck stained.
Chris and his crew have done a fabulous job, such that the house has a completely new appearance. Much of this was the result of his making recommendations that had not occurred to us. He is very creative, skilled and extremely competent. He has been working with a  well known, local builder for the past 4-5 years and is now is starting his own company. I think he will be very successful!  I recommend him without reservation.

    Crockett Home Improvement Inc
Crockett built our home.  It was a disaster. Granted this was 1999 and
perhaps ownership has changed, but we had smoking sockets, pluming that
broke, and worst of all a bad foundation.  I just don't understand how
they could have such high ratings on Angie's list.  Eventually they
stopped repairing saying our home warrant was up.  That wasn't true, but
the quality of the repairs was so bad that we didn't want to fool with
    them any longer.

    Roger White
I would recommend Roger White to anyone.  After asking many people who they would recommend, Roger White's name came up the most often.  We interviewed 5 different builders and selected Roger.  We never regretted that decision.
Roger has been in the business for long enough to know excellent subcontractors.  Whenever we had any questions, we had a great deal of trust in whatever Roger said.  We worked out a creative price structure that was a win-win for Roger and us.  He was flexible.  The town of Blacksburg is difficult to build in because of the many stringent building standards, but Roger took them in stride.  We were fortunate to have a mild winter, so progress went realtively quick.  It took about 7-8 months from start to finish.  I don't know if everyone could expect that, but we were fortunate.

    Ewing Cabinet Co
The schedule was compromised from the very beginning when the kitchen was not measured accurately and the design needed to be redone. In the meantime, we had purchased some appliances that needed to be returned and we had to fight over re-stocking fees. What should have taken 6 to 8 weeks, took more than 3 months. Counter-top contractor was terrible, counter-tops needed to be redone. Tile contractor was superb. Cabinet installer just ok. Crew broke the foot off of my range while installing, propped it up on wood blocks and never said anything. The range is not level to this day. I expected the kitchen designer to be the expert, yet several times, when I wanted something different, for example, I didn't want my garbage disposal switch on the wall, her solution was to put it under the sink, instead of installing a push button in the counter top, which I saw in a magazine. Felt as though I had to be very pushy to get what I wanted when it differed from the kitchen designer and the crew.
My grade is C, but my husband's is B, so we compromised on a rating of B.

    E A Construction Inc

Overall, the job went very smoothly....we had one minor incident that was out of our control....while moving our bedroom furniture out of the master bedroom (we were having carpeting installed by a carpet installer on the 16th) therefore, my husband and I moved into another bedroom ....next morning (on the 15th of June) the entire closet shelf had collapsed and was in the floor. I had to go to work; stated what had ocurred to Sam and without a blink he was able to repair the closet and we were able to inhabit the bedroom until our carpet was installed.

Out of anyone's control....the doors ordered promptly by Mr. Akers, took a little longer to arrive (by about 2 weeks; however, once arrived, they were installed in one day, fully painted and hardware installed.

Cleaning up was done at the end of each day they were in our home. This was definitely a plus, which tells me he and his crew are professionals in their work.
