    Hawks Renovations LLC
    Hawks was very responsive from the initial inquiry to give an estimate all the way through the completion of the job.  At the outset, they provided an itemized estimate along with a sketch of what the renovation would look look like.  The price was reasonable in comparison to other estimates and Hawks was more responsive than any other provider we tried.  Hawks was willing to work with us to identify areas where we could cut costs a bit to stay within our budget.  For example, instead of installing a hinged glass shower door, we opted for a glass panel wall without a hinged door, which saved abut $500.  They were also willing to work with us to make sure all of our needs were met.  For example, we wanted dual shower heads in our shower, but the only way to put in 2 was to put one on an outside wall.  Hawks guaranteed they would put in extra insulation to prevent the outside wall placement from being a problem.  It must be working since we haven't  had a frozen pipe even with the below zero temperatures we had a few nights this winter.  
    The Hawks team showed up to start work exactly when promised.  The demolition took about 5 days to completely gut the bathroom including removal of the old shower, vanity, huge soaking tub, floor, etc.  The renovation involved relocating the shower and vanity to different locations; thus, plumbing and rewiring electrical was involved.  Hawks designed a custom tile shower to meet our specifications and recommended a bath design shop to work with for the design of the new vanity.  Installation of the new shower, vanity, and floor took several weeks, but the finished product is beautiful.  The tiling in the shower is beautifully done.  
    As is the case with any job, not everything goes completely as planned.  For example, in our case, we had planned to install vanity lighting along side our dual vanity mirrors.  It turned out that the lighting did not quite fit in the space available due to the positioning of wall support beams and window framing.  As a result, the Hawks team ended up rewiring the electrical in that wall a couple of times to get it just right for above the mirror lighting.  They were very accommodating with all changes of this nature.  
    All in all, the finished product is beautiful.  Eight months later, everything still looks brand new.  Hawks is very easy to work with and their work is very high quality. I highly recommend them.

    Buff & Coat
    After 12 years of wear including a cat and a collie as well as grandkids playing, our floors were scratched and dull. Armed with the good reviews on Angie's List, I called Dave at Buff and Coat who came out and measured. He recommended a Buff and Coat and said that our floors didn't need sanding. We scheduled the service and his friendly team showed up on time and went to work. When we returned at the end of the day, all we could say was "wow!" The floors looked like new and all the scratches were gone! We are thrilled with the work done and would not hesitate to call them again in the future.

    It went very well. Scott came and did the estimate when scheduled.  He worked with me in selecting a wood to replace the carpet and gave me good advice about a bamboo I was considering. He arrived on time to do the install and it was completed the same day. It was all very professional. His price was very reasonable for the job. I would definitely call him again for the next project.

    My one bad experience on Angie's List so far.�� When I had a question before I purchased the big deal (this was an AL big deal) they answered it in 20 minutes.�� That gave me a lot of confidence so I purchased the deal.�� After that, it took weeks to get responses from this business: for example, when I emailed to schedule a date for��the flooring to be installed, it took United 9 days just��to respond.�� I understand communication backlogs happen, but its a problem if they happen in every interaction with a single customer.

    The terms of the deal (this was a AL big deal) were not honored in a straightforward way.�� I was told I would have a choice of tiles up to a certain price point.�� When I went to the wholesaler's show room - they could not identify tile by that price point and I had no idea what tiles were available other than the two different colors of��13x13s United was pushing.

    The estimate that was given after my kitchen was measured involved extra square footage��(in addition to��wasted tile), but I still cannot figure out how they measured my kitchen and got the square footage included in the estimate.�� There are an extra 3-4 square feet in their estimate that I cannot find my kitchen after measuring 5 times.�� At 18.75 per extra square foot, that's a lot of money.

    After a month of red flags, I requested a refund and no work was done.�� In fairness, I cannot speak to the quality of the��flooring that would have been installed.��

    Costen Floors
    The carpet installation was seamless. I hardly knew they were in the house except for all of my furniture was in my living room.  The head man, Mike, was extremely knowledgeable and I learned a lot about caring for my carpets from him. They were here most of the day, cleaned up after themselves and although we stayed with a neutral beige color similar to the old carpet the difference is like night and day.  Jan, the sales person, helped me pick out the carpet and made sure I got a good team.  She was very responsive.  A+ all around for that job.
    The laminate flooring was a different story.  The crew showed up without proper knowledge of the work site.  Part of the upstairs was opened to the area where the laminate floor would be installed.  They needed to sand the subfloor as it was the original attic floor.  They did not bring anything to seal off the area between the attic floor and the previously finished carpet area that has just been steam cleaned after a 2 month installation of new dormers, lot of dry wall and 2 closets.  I stopped the work immediately as all my furniture had been moved onto the carpet so they could install the laminate floor.  It would have been a blizzard of saw dust and dry wall dust all over everything.  They also did not bring a screw gun to screw the subfloors down as it clearly needed it.  The workers were not to blame for this as they had no instructions on their work order.
    After several calls back and forth with the floor managers at Costen Floors, the workers had a screw gun and jet vac to clean up the mess.  They were late in starting and would not be able to finish the job with just the two of them before Thanksgiving.  I called Jan and she put in an early request for a third person.  The men sealed off the area from the clean area with plastic before they started sanding.   The walls where they were working has just been painted a week before and all my expensive light fixtures had already been hung as I was told the floors come last.  They all got blasted with saw dust and residual dry wall.
    This day was very stressful as I had just been through contractor h*** for two months and cleaning up after most of their subcontractors.  Costen Floors stayed with me the whole day checking in to see how I was doing.  On day two they sent in a third person so they finished the job the second day.  They also paid to have a service come out and clean up after the dust storm in the area where they put the laminate floor and in the older area where there is carpet.  The Operations Manager came out to talk with me about the problem as they want to get things right.  We talked about their lack of equipment, knowledge of the space, and how much of a mess they were going to make with their sanding and what it would do to all my exposed furniture and freshly cleaned carpet.  He understood immediately by just looking at the 15 foot opening between the two areas.  There was a miscommunication between the sales person and operations about the condition of the site.  A lesson learned for them.
    In the end the floors turned out really nice.  I am extremely pleased with how they look and more importantly really impressed with how responsive the floor manager, sales person, and the operations manager were to this job site.  I would highly recommend this company and use them again as I know they will responded to a problem if there is one and go to great lengths to fix it and make the customer happy which I am.

    Lou is a wonderful floor guy. He showed up early, stayed late, he knows flooring and does a professional job, his prices are reasonable and he's honest. He came before we settled on our house to give us an estimate and asked for a small deposit when we signed the contract. He called prior to starting the job and asked if he could start a day early ( I complied...we were happy to get underway with time constraints of our own). He removed all carpeting and nails and swept up. He came back everyday (even weekend days) until the job was finished. He showed up around 7:30 in the morning and stayed some evenings until 9:00 pm. He estimated that he'd have around 7% waste, but he had almost no waste. In fact, we had enough wood left over to add wood floors to our foyer. Originally we had planned to keep the tile in the foyer. He installed wood flooring so precisely (close to the walls) that most rooms didn't even need quarter round molding, but he installed it anyway and did a great job. His tile job is as excellent as his wood floors. He has a work ethic that is hard to find these days. We will hire him again for more flooring work. I can't say enough good about him.
