The job was done on time and looks great. The team was highly professional and kept me informed every step of the way. I plan on using them again soon for another project and have recommended them to several friends and neighbors.

We recently purchased a fairly new townhouse constructed by a quality builder in the Ashburn area. I have taken advantage of Angie's list to bring in various professionals to assess the current condition of the home and have had good results. This was not the case with Adelphia Exteriors, which basically resulted in a total waste of both my time and money. I took the morning off from work so that I could accompany the inspector during his assessment of our attic insulation. The appointment was set for 10:00, which should have provided plenty of time to get completed in the morning and get back to work. After arriving an hour and a half late, the inspector asked me if I had a ladder, which I found odd, then returned to his car to get his. He proceeded to open the hatch in our master bedroom closet, and dumped insulation all over my clothes because he made no preparations to protect anything. I asked him to stop while I grabbed a garbage bag to cover up my clothes, then we went up into the attic. The only tool he brought with him to perform the inspection was a cellphone, which he used as a flashlight. He never moved more than five feet from the hatch even though it was on one side of the townhouse and not the middle, citing the fact that he didn't want to disturb any of the existing insulation. He immediately went into a sales pitch about how we needed the full treatment of additional R19 insulation on top of the R28 we already had, baffles, top hats for lights, and the all important "Air Seal" treatment. He didn't move any insulation to see if this treatment was required, so I proceeded to do so myself. I pointed out that there was sheet metal around the chase for the HVAC duct work, top hats already installed, and baffles along one side of the eaves. These were all easily visible from where we stood. It's a Miller and Smith home, which was built to be energy efficient, so it may even already have the air seal treatment for the wiring, but since it was never checked I may need to go up again and look for myself. During the write-up of the estimate, the inspector explained that it was "All Inclusive" of baffles and top hats, even though they were already installed. When pressed, he gave me a $78 discount from the $928 price since the Angie's List discount was already being applied. I went with Adelphia based on the rave reviews from other customers on both the inspection and the work performed. I feel that I did NOT get what I paid for as far as the inspection goes, instead paying for an estimate that many other companies provide for free. I can't speak to any other work performed since I will not be continuing my relationship with them based on the initial unpleasant experience.

    BK Contracts
We interviewed several different contractors for this work (approximately 7-8) since we knew this was going to be a large and expensive project. We felt most comfortable with Bret who took the time to understand our needs/wants and drew up a scope of the plan and a proposed layout of what we were looking for. Upon seeing his estimate, it came in on the lower end of our other contractors and based on his good reviews, we decided to move forward. Based on getting permits, the start of the job went very quickly. We have gotten quite a bit of work done in our home and have to say that Bret's crew were very professional, knowledgeable, and did very high quality work on what was done (I wish I had gone with Bret and his company for other past projects). A big plus was as we move forward with the project, we had several design changes done and Bret and his team were willing to accommodate the scope which was very helpful. While the project was going on, we also had a baby born and all the meanwhile, no interruptions in the work nor much of our time was needed to keep things going. As mentioned, our project was turn-key so his crew did everything including framing, drywall, plumbing, flooring, painting, all finishing touches to the end. What started as a basic job became a highly custom job but Bret and his team were up for the task. We are thrilled with the end result and glad we get to enjoy it with our friends and family for many years to come. In fact, everyone that has come by our home and sees the basement thinks it is really good work. This coming from someone that is very meticulous and particular. Whether we had a very minimal job or a high-end custom job, I would be confident to go with Bret and his team for the job.

It didn't go. The vendor came, told me he didn't think I needed it and offered instead to send me a written summary and estimate via email. He did tell me their consultations are typically $50 and the balance would apply to any other service they would perform. I never received the follow up email or any other proposal, so I essentially paid $149 for $50 in service value. The person I spoke with seemed nice enough, but in my opinion he seemed to be juggling more than he could handle. This happened in 2015 and I provided this information to your Angie's list rep who called for a review so I no longer remember the specific dates.

BK Contracts On-Time, Under Budget, Amazing!

We found BK Contracts (herein BKC) on Angies List after searching for a company to finish our basement. BKC offered an initial consult and basement design (ideas) for $249 which would be discounted from the project costs when we went with their company.

The owner, Bret, met with us, listened to our ideas, passed on some of his own and after just a few days we had a detailed proposal. The design was exactly what we had discussed and his estimate was very reasonable considering the size and scope of our project (about 3,000 square feet).

We had met with and talked with a number of other companies but when considering the experience, price and years in business (since 1993) we went with BKC. Within a few days of our proposal acceptance, his crew began working.

    Project Scope:

    - Au pair / In-Law suite

    - Fitness Room

    - Recreational Room

    - Theater

    - Full Kitchen

    - Storage Area

Amazing attention to detail and incredibly responsive. They far exceeded all of our expectations and would immediately adjust to any additional renovation needs, additions or changes. Luis, Lorenzo and Jorge are all trustworthy, courteous and a hardworking group of men.

The installation of the drywall went smoothly, without issue. They inspected each piece to make sure each was without flaws. The electrical work went smoothly as well, adjusting to our numerous (additional) requests for dimmers and pendant lighting. The painting was again, perfectly done.

Bret was reachable all day via email, text or phone and his response was almost immediate. He met me at Home Depot to help select appliances and lighting for the kitchen area and assisted with the cabinet selection as well as the backsplash and finishing touches.

We will definitely use this company again and would highly recommend them to friends and family without hesitation. BK Contracts is now my go-to company for any household needs or projects!

Brian was really terrific, he saw I was frustrated with the constant cold spots I had in my house and did a great job calming me down, explaining the various solutions and completing everything in a timely fashion.  He even took the time to show where my problem spots were and made additional recommendations. He also cam out free of charge a second time and helped me seal up draft areas between my kitchen and garage wall where my builder, Khov, did a terrible job of insulating.  This all made for drastic improvements in our homes efficiency and comfort.

Contractor was polite and knowledgeable as well as on time and mindful of cleaning up after themselves.

We really liked was that the didn't try to upsell us. They were honest with what they could do since we have vaulted ceilings.

Creators of Total Comfort Mechanical Inc
I had a fairly unique situation. I just sold my home and the new owners had a home inspection done. The home inspector said that my HVAC ducts being underneath the insulation would cause condensation issues and that the ducts needed to be re-strapped. The ducts were underneath insulation as we had extra insulation blown in and the ductwork covered to create a more efficient heating/cooling system (as the insulation contractor told me). I had three different HVAC contractors come out to see how much it would cost me to re-strap my ducts to the ceiling.  All three told me the same thing: 1) there are no condensation issues; 2) I should leave the ducts alone as they are in great shape as is; 3) re-strapping the ducts to the ceiling would create a less efficient system. So after explaining this to the new owners, they were still skeptical. Robert of Total Comfort went out of his way by coming out to my home and putting in writing that the system was fine and that he does NOT recommend re-strapping the ducts. He wrote a detailed explanation of why he would not re-strap the ducts. He was the ONLY contractor willing to put this in writing (to appease the new home owners) and also provided them with his phone number in case they wanted to speak to him directly (which they did). In summary, Robert basically convinced the new home owners to NOT have work done (as it was unnecessary) thereby taking money out of his own pocket. It is hard to find a business with this much honesty and integrity. I will be surely contacting Robert for all our home heating/cooling needs once we move and I could not recommend him more.
