    LA Fitness - Leesburg
I was assigned a trainer in January 2015. He did not show up to the first appointment. I stuck with him for 4 months. In retrospect, that was way too long. He either didn't show up or had scheduled someone else for the time I had scheduled two weeks before at least 50% of the time I was with him. I was then given another trainer. I went for the first session and he told me he was leaving the gym and wouldn't be there for even two more weeks. I asked for another trainer. I was given a run around and finally told they didn't have anyone to schedule me with, but to come back two days shy of two weeks and if the Manager of Personal Training Services (I didn't know his title at the time) couldn't find someone to train me, he would do it himself. I had previously given my contact information to the Manager of Operations (also didn't know her title) so she could find me a trainer. I heard nothing from anyone and stopped at the desk and asked about a trainer when I was there for an Aquafit class. I was told that my name had been given to a trainer who had recently been promoted to Master Trainer. He had not called me, but he was there and I set up an appointment for that week. After twwo good sessions, I arrived for my third session with him and he wasn't there. I was told by the first trainer that the third trainer no longer worked there but no one had told me about it. Also, during this time period I had started taking the Aquafit class on Monday evenings. After a month or so about 15 of us showed up for class, but had no teacher. A class member called the front desk and was told the instruuctor had left the gym. After the third trainer had failed to show up, I was very angry. I told the person sitting at the Manager of Operations desk I wanted the who contract cancelled. He said he couldn't do that. He said the manger would be back the next week. She was at the Sterling club training clients due to a shortage of trainers there. He indicated she might be able to help me. I was very angry and left. I went back a couple of days later to work out. On the way out I asked for the manager's name. I was given the name of the Manager of Operations. I told her sub that she would be getting a letter and that I would file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and Angie's List. That evening I received a call on my cell phone. It was the Manager of Training Services (MTS). He said this was the first he had heard of my problems with the program. He said if I pursued getting the contract cancelled it would be hard and nasty and people would be hurt. I asked who would be hurt. He said he would be. At that time my land line rang and I hung up on him. Later he called again and started the same thing again and begged me to give them another chance. I told him I wasn't interested, told him I was going to hand up and did. He called at least two or three more times which I refused to answer. Then there was another call which I also did not answer, but the caller left a message. Later that night when I listed to the message it was from the General Manager. She asked me to call her back. I waited for a few days and then called her. She was very nice and said I just needed to take in my ID during that week. During the conversation, she mentioned another trainer and said that he could train me in the water if I wanted. I eventually accepted that offer and will soon have my second session with him. If things don't work out, I will pursue cancelling the contract. However, the new trainer (the 4th) seems very nice, knowledgeable, and was looking forward to being able to use his new certification for training in the water. If things go well, I will stick with this trainer. If not, they know I am serious about wanting out of the contract. I said I would use this provider again based solely on the way the GM handled the situation. The facility itself seems good enough, although there are some maintenance issues with equipment sometimes. I like the fact I can do the Aquafit class (once they find another instructor) and also be trained in the water. It just opens up more options.

We have been going there for five years maybe.  They have very good and friendly staff.  They have a lot of equipment.  For the gym, they could better by keeping it clean.  I think they can also improve their locker room especially for the ladies because sometimes it is crowded.  Most of the personal trainers we used, have all been very good.

In the future, I think we will go two or three times a week.  Their price is reasonable and average.

    FitIt Fitness
Noel is wonderful to train with. He goes above and beyond what a typical trainer does and was committed to getting me to the results I wanted. His guidance, extensive knowledge of what works best for my body (not just some new trend everyone is trying on all of their clients), truly helped me achieve what I wanted in 6 months! He made me aware of achieving long lasting results and has helped me as my body and strength has changed. I highly recommend FitIt Fitness for those looking for a TRUE personal trainer!

    Nova ABC Weight Loss Center
It was good in that I lost weight and it is monitored by a physician. It is more in tune for people I think who are obese and I'm not obese. I'm over-weight. I thought that it would be more of a way to change the way you eat. That's what I got from the advertising. It was more of way to change the way that you eat, help you plan meals and that's not part of it. It didn't really give you the tools that I thought were promised, which is meal planning. That's what I was looking for. I live alone. I've lived alone for over 30 years. So I don't plan meals well. I mean, it's just me. If you've ever been single, you'll know exactly what I'm saying. You just don't eat well, unless you really like to cook and I don't. So that's what I was kind of hoping to do and it didn't give me that. I didn't completely finish the program. I did lose the weight that I was hoping to. I did write them a letter and explained that I was disappointed in that I thought that the program would provide more direction in how to change the way. The second thing is they talk about providing an individual exercise plan, but it's not. You're in a room with people and they're all doing the same exercises. I'm 64 years old and I'm slightly over-weight. There are people there that I admire because they're trying so hard to lose weight but they need to be doing different exercises than I do and I need to be doing different exercises than them. Because people are younger and they're extremely obese. They gave a xeroxed copy with 20 exercise kind of thing. In that respect, I was kind of disappointed. But at the same time I can say I lost the weight.

    Gold's Gym - Herndon
I used Gold's Gym Herndon for almost three years. It is conveniently located with all the popular classes in there. The gym is however small and old as compared to the ones built in Sterling and Ashburn. Yet, if you are looking for a small intimate place -- this could be the place for you.

I think, their gym is well-run and clean. Also, it's plenty of equipment. They have pool outside and inside which is nice. The people there are all very helpful and very professional. We were happy with the staff.

Svet is an excellent trainer.  Far and away better than the trainers available at local fitness centers.  He approaches everything in a friendly and professional manner.  He is always on time for fitness appointments and very flexible when scheduling workouts.
We have made great progress with Svet's help - certainly much more than we could have on our own.  His expertise allows us to make the most of our workout time and effort.

    An Underground Athlete
A couple years ago, I was overweight and plagued with joint pain and hypothyroidism. A few coworkers suggested that I try Underground Athlete. Within a few months of avidly going 5-6 times a week this past year to both their Strength and Conditioning (Sand C) and Kettlebell (KB) classes, I was devoid of all those issues. Instead, I gained the impetus to maintain a healthy work/life balance, the joy and satisfaction of being a member of their competitive Kettlebell Sport Team, and most importantly, the desire to maintain a healthy lifestyle. For those people who like numbers, that roughly translates to 30lbs down from last year and -2% in body fat.
My first indication that this gym was different was that new members must participate in a functional movement assessment before initiating training. All the other gyms that I checked out just promised me results (as I sat in a chair) and tried to negotiate my payments. They did not care about my fitness level or whether I was imbalanced and hence, prone to injury. This initial checkout showed me that Justin, the owner and head coach/trainer, put the safety of his members as his and his staff's first priority.
My second favorite thing about the gym is the coaches' genuine passion for gaining and sharing knowledge. Justin is an invaluable resource on nutrition, physiology, biochemistry and exercise theory. He never hesitates to answer questions on any of these topics, even volunteering to meet people during lunch to answer questions. He is constantly reading, trying out new "toys", attending workshops/conferences, and developing exercise movements that can challenge and help us. Based on his knowledge and research, Justin recently created a challenge with a nutritional guide. The results were astounding. I lost 8lbs in a month, with the most weight lost by a person being 28lbs! Justin was doing the challenge right there with us and provided explanations (down to the biochemistry-level if desired) for every point. Matt is equally vigilant and always has an answer to why one should perform an exercise a certain way as well as the underlying reasoning behind his programs. I haven't had the chance to work with Antwon yet but it's clear that he shares Justin and Matt's commitment to supporting and challenging us. Sara is a Kettlebell expert. With multiple Candidate for Master of Sport (CMS) ranks, she is a patient teacher and an inspiration while she continues her education and training under one of the most-decorated Kettlebell athlete and coach in the world, Sergei Rudnev. Cristal is also a Kettlebell expert and has a sharp eye for technique. She is incredibly intuitive in her explanations and breaks movements down into digestible pieces. Her physical and mental strength inspires her students to achieve goals they never thought they could dream of. Both Sara and Cristal keep the sport fun and truly believe in their athletes! Due to these amazing coaches, I achieved a CMS rank less than a year after starting the Kettlebell sport. My favorite takeaway from the Underground Athlete coaches is that being healthy isn't about being a specific BMI number or being under a number on the's about being an active and educated participant in your nutrition, your fitness, and your regulation of stress and other aspects of life.
Lastly (for this review), the fellow members of Underground Athlete truly complete the experience. They are fun, egoless, and supportive. Their words of encouragement during and outside our workouts (especially during Tough Mudder!) help keep us honest and push us through the craziest workouts!
Underground Athlete is a family. We support each other, laugh with each other, and truly want the best for each other. Is it for everyone? Maybe not. But if you are committed to creating / maintaining a healthy lifestyle in a fun environment, I highly suggest you check out this local gym. Hope to see you around!

I felt that the system Ms. Segretto has set-up was the perfect amount of support that I needed.  She was willing to go to the grocery store with me and help me choose new alternatives that would help me lose weight and also support me as a nursing mother.  Ms. Segretto was a good listener and was easy to talk to.  I also found her to be extremely knowledgeable and I feel she practices from a common-sense point of view in regard to how to nourish myself as a busy holistic practitioner and a new mother.  I also attended one of her raw-food demonstrations.  All of the recipes were easy and actually tasted good as well  It was nice to socialize with others who were interested in improving their health.
