    Annunziata, Dr. Christopher C.
I cannot say enough good things about this doctor -- he was excellent both in terms of his treatment and his bedside manner. He referred me to a great physical therapist, too, one suited to my need exactly.

The appointment went fine. First I was taken to take x-rays, then I met with Dr. Kennedy who explained that the x-rays showed no fractures. She was very nice and did a good job explaining the timeline for recovery. The appointment was pretty quick, she gave me an air brace, a prescription for stronger painkillers and told me to keep my foot elevated for several days. I wish she had given me a cast or immobilizer so my foot would feel more protected for the first week because it was very painful, I could barley put any weight on it. Six weeks later my ankle is still bothering me, but getting better. It's pretty much in line with what I had been told in my appointments. I expect to be back to sports hopefully within a couple of weeks.

X-ray, and thorough exam initially with 2-3 weeks of PT following. No improvement. Cortisone shots then. No improvement. Finally, decided to drop my prescriptive statin before leaving for a bike trip overseas. (I had tried two others initally with shoulder pain). The pain stopped and later my cardiologist and endocrinologist tried other drugs instead. Conclusion: This clinic should have read the detailed history I submitted and asked me about the statins. That was the real problem.

I found Dr. Nirschl to be very experienced.  I had a great experience seeing him.  He really listened to what was wrong.  He very quickly made a diagnosis that seemed to fit well.  I would say that it was a pretty good experience.  I did have to wait a while or his appointment, but you end up waiting for almost every doctor.  I am willing to wait of someone is good.  On the other hand if I wait a long time for someone and they are not good, then I get really upset.  I thought it was worth the wait.

I am almost 2 months out of surgery and doing great. The doctor and physical therapist went over the surgery and what to expect afterward. It was a big help to understand what was going to happen and how to deal with it. I still have another few weeks of physical therapy but I am feeling so much better.

The recommendation to see Dr. Trucksess was great - her gait analysis and recommendations to ease me back into running have been helpful, and I can now run 3 miles without pain. The only drawback is that the office is further out in Virginia.

    Annunziata, Dr. Christopher C.
From first impressions to an outstanding result, this is a model athlete's surgeon. When I first met him, he said, "Hi, I'm Chris Annunziata". How refreshing that a top-tier surgeon doesn't need to hide behind the "Dr." for his self esteem, as if I forgot I went to see a doctor. Chris discussed all options from the get go, and pursued a conservative course of treatment to rule out differentials before diving in to surgery. His working diagnosis the very first time we met was clearly based on vast experience, and I was skeptical. MRI and arthroscopy would prove him right on. Ultimately we pursued surgery at my behest, not his, based on the options he put on the table and my goals. The knee problem I went to see him for is 100% cured, and the recovery was minimal. It just doesn't get any better than that.

    VIRGINIA SPORTSMEDICINE INSTITUTE
I will not go back there, as the staff does not focus on patients. The physical therapist used to spend time socializing and talking with other therapists instead of caring for the patients. I do intent to write to them about it. It was always the same environment whenever I visited them. They have to focus on their patients first and all socializing should be in the back room.

I've used them for the last 7 years. He consults with my neuro-surgeon. They are usually no more than 10 minutes behind.
