    Fairfax Mental Health and Wellness

Things are progressing along nicely with Dr. Shore's help.  We have visited other mental health professionals in the past, but have become discouraged by their "bedside manner" (watching the clock, seeming distracted during a visit, etc.) and sometimes it is hard to continue treatment.  With Dr. Shore, this has never been a problem -- she really is a joy to spend time with.  I cannot recommend Dr. Shore highly enough.

On my last visit, Dr. Rahman decided to stop 2 of my medications that I had been prescribed by him for almost 2 years for no reason. He explained 'I never needed them.' He then increased another medication to an extremely high dosage. I explained that I hadn't been taking this medication, but I wanted to give it another shot because I felt I had never given it a proper chance. He gave me no warning that going from 0mg per day to 300mg per day could cause extreme side effects. I almost ended up in the hospital because of this. I did not get out of bed for 2 days because I was physically unable to.The therapist, whose name I cannot remember and was extremely unprofessional, I only saw once. She was a younger brunette. While I was speaking, she started laughing at me and making comments that were extremely judgmental towards both myself and my friends' hobbies. In regards to billing, because of a mistake with my insurance, I was accidentally overbilled by over $60 on my last visit. My insurance explained that once they reimbursed the Dr's office and sent me the statement, I would receive a refund from the Dr. for the overpayment. I waited for over 3 months since I have received my statement from my insurance to receive the refund check. It was sent out right after I called to follow up on it.Lastly, I called to make an appointment to get refills. I recently started a new job that is over an hour away from the office and do not have any vacation or sick days built up so I am unable to get there before 6 until I build up time to leave early. Both my pharmacy and I called and requested refills and were both denied. When I called and asked them please to refill my medication because I was unable to take a day off work for a refill appointment, the always rude and unwelcoming receptionist gave me the advice of 'just leave work, stop taking your meds, or find a new doctor.' That's not only not helpful, that's not safe. Stopping the medications I am on cold turkey is very dangerous and this Dr's office does not seem to care about the patient in this instance.

    Kager, Dr. Valarie A.
Dr. Kager referred us to her assistant, Dr. Bulent Dincer, who we will be scheduling an initial appointment with in January. Dr. Kager was not accepting new patients when I called.
