    GUNSTON ANIMAL HOSPITAL
They do some sedation grooming. It needs to be sedated. He does not like going to the veterinarian and when they approach him with clippers, then he's like oh no huh uh. It's once in a blue moon so they have to do an additional wellness check and the blood work on him. The sedation runs up to $100 depending on how much they need to sedate him.  The grooming work that we have done, it's called the lion cut, they basically shave him and wash him. They take all his nice long hair and they cut it all off except for his paws, tail, and around his neck and up. That's because his hair gets matted.  They do it about once every 3 years, 2 or 3 years. It's $60 something for the grooming which is the hair cut and the wash. Then up to $100 on the sedation. A wellness check is about $80, which is basically a physical. I don't recall how much the blood work is. He is an older cat, so he requires some blood work to make sure that he is going to survive the sedation. They're very careful with the animals. They used to be our regular veterinarian for a lot of things because we used to live practically across the street from them, but we moved farther away. I would give them an A because of the care and concern they take to make sure the animal is going to be safe and healthy. They are less expensive than a lot of the places up here that are close to us and it's not a service that everybody does. Very few people actually provide that service. I don't have any complaints. They're pretty good about when things need to be done getting the animal in quickly to be seen. He is about to go in and our wait was 10 days because it is a non critical procedure so that's reasonable. In some cases for this particular procedure that's relatively quick.  It's hard to get in unless you are going to pay a lot more than they charge. We can go down the street here, almost walking distance, but it would be doubled what they charge. It's about a half an hour drive for us but it is worth our while. If you go to some of the other places, they won't do sedation anything on cats. None of the big chains will do it.

    The Muddy Mutt
Muddy Mutt is very convenient to the Shirlington dog park (right next to an entrance, actually!). Service is very quick and professional. They are very understanding about my dog not liking to get his nails cut, and he's honestly had the best experience getting his nails cut there. Will definitely keep going here!

    Barkley Square Professional Pet Services
I have an Australian Shepherd/Golden Retriever mix.  Groomer was great and listened to my suggestions.  Will go back in a few months.  I especially liked the fact that they groomed my dog upon arrival as opposed to keeping the dog waiting for an hour or two which is the practice of some other groomers.

    FOR PET'S SAKE

Groomer assured me that the dog would be ready by 1:30 PM.  Unfortunately, the dog was just starting to get groomed at 1:30.  At 2:00 after a rushed cut, dog was ready.  I have used this facility many times in the past and have been very satisfied with the quality of the service.  It is unfortunate that they cannot better estimate the time that dogs will be ready.  Another issue related to timing involves their requirement that dogs be dropped off between 8:00 and 9:00AM so that all dogs are washed and dried at the same time. This causes all dogs to not be done until noon or later such as my dog.

    ANNANDALE PET SPA
I read great things about Annandale Pet Spa on Angie's List, but did not experience any of them.  They did not follow my grooming instructions at all, and the price was high for being way out in Annandale.  I told them my dog had anxiety issues being crated, and the lady dismissed it saying "that's what they all say," and threw her in the cage right in front of me.  I was very disappointed after all of the great reviews I had read (I really wanted to love this place!) and would definitely NOT recommend them for dog grooming.

    Purrfect Grooming Co
We have our Golden Retriever groomed here every 2-3 months. He gets a heavy trim and he always looks marvelous. Even when they have to shave off a few mats they do a good job of hiding the area that's shaved.

    GROOMING BY MARCEY
I went to this provider because of the raves she got on Angie's List. She was very responsive to my phone call, and allowed me to get in quickly by a cancellation she had in her schedule. She was very caring with the dogs, responsive to their being new to her and her service. I liked that there were no other dogs, and she has a good set up. The problem was that because the dogs were getting antsy, we agreed that we would not do the whole grooming during that trip, but I would come back for follow up / finishing. I helped her with both dogs, holding them both during the entire time she was grooming. I also helped her with their drying after their bath. I was quite surprised, then, when she charged me $50 each, for what was only half a grooming (if even that) at any other place, plus my helping her out. And she was quite vocal in how much I helped her and how she couldn't have done this so easily without my help, holding the dogs the entire hour each one was worked on (so two hours). It's difficult to get any type of scheduled pricing out of this provider, so I didn't have anything to compare it to, but I thought that my active participation and only a very rough shave of the dogs would have been far less than $50 each. But I still gave her a tip, thinking that we'd agreed that I would bring the dogs back to get evened out and finish the grooming.

I got home and when the dogs completely dried they looked absolutely terrible - tufts of long hair all over, top of their head not touched at all - just plain goofy looking. It was truly an awful grooming. So, I called her back up in about a week, wanting to get back in, as I thought we'd agreed. She was completely booked for three weeks out and when I asked her how much she would charge me when I was able to get back in, she said she thought the entire price because a month would have passed, and she'd have to do it all again. There is NO WAY the grooming my dogs received was worth even close to $50 each. So, not only did she not honor our agreement to get them back in to finish up, her prices are outrageous, at least for me.

My husband used the same set of grooming shears that she used, that I got through Amazon, and trimmed them up over the weekend and the dogs look great. So, for the price of less than the two dogs' grooming, he shaped them both up in an hour. I will NOT be going back to Marcey - ever - and recommend that any new people clearly and articulately ask prices ahead of time. But my recommendation is to steer clear of this provider entirely.

    ANNANDALE PET SPA
We felt the cost was reasonable for what we had done. My wife is the one who actually brought the dog. She said she would use them next time. They got through things pretty quickly. Our dog seems comfortable there. She did not seem like she had any issues because we had dropped her off in the morning and then back few hours later and got her. She seems fine. She was not anxious to leave or anything. Price was less than what we had been quoted at other places. They were done based on your schedule. From what my wife said professionalism was fine. We did not have any issues.

    GROOMING BY MARCEY
The price is very reasonable and she is very good. I searched on your website and I made an appointment to visit them. She is unbelievable! She is nice to the dogs and she is really good. My dog is so happy to go there. Sometimes we have an appointment every 2 weeks and sometimes every 3 weeks. You can imagine that's how she likes it there. People in my building have switched to her. There is no wait time, it's only your dog, and I like that a lot.

    DOG MOBILE GROOMING STUDIO
It didn't. We were scheduled for a Friday morning appointment from 9-10. At 0950, I called to find out what the status of the groomer was and was told that I was scheduled for Saturday. I would not have agreed to the date they insisted because I already had things planned for that day and would not be able to make a 9-10 appointment. The scheduler insisted that we were scheduled for a Saturday appointment despite my notes and our previous scheduling. They did not offer to fix the situation other than to come at the time THEY had us scheduled, not when they were supposed to be scheduled.
Additionally, I found it difficult to get a hold of their office. Half the time I would have to leave a voicemail, but they would not call back on the number I had left.
All, in all, they seemed very disorganized. I will not be calling them in the future.
