Masonry reviews in Arlington

  • The joist that was slightly damaged some time in the past due to water damage was sistered to a new 2x10x16 joist. new joist was set into cut masonry wall alongside existing joist and bolted along it's entire length. Suffice to say it's not going anywhere. Had a hole in the wall closed up with new bricks and that was done nicely. Finally had a lot of cast iron drain lines replaced with PVC which turned out to be more of an adventure than initially estimated, but the adjustment was totally reasonable and the work was done nicely.

  • It went very badly. We like Williams and Williams initially. The person we spoke to (Justin) did a good job coming up with a design. We called the references and did our homework. We payed the initial contract payment of $16,000+. They never started work. They promised to come, hired a tree firm to clear the area, but never began construction. We were left with a partially cleared backyard, trees removed, and a general mess. We have lost at least a year and are worse than when we started. We cannot recommend Williams and Williams.

  • I made an appointment with Mike Cadle and he and his son arrived on time and talked to me about my project. After we talked for awhile, he indicated that he wanted to take some measurements, so I left them to it. I later saw them standing around talking and looking at my neighbor's backyard and then my old deck and back door that we are going to also replace, but which were not near the work I asked them about. Finally they left. Two weeks later, having received no proposal, I called and left a message to try and follow up to see if they had tried to send it to me. They replied that they just didn't have time and were not taking on new projects because they are overwhelmed with work and are getting "20 phone calls a day." Well, gee, why are you advertising and offering discount coupons on Angie's List then? And why did you have time to waste coming out to talk to me and and look all around my house? Frustrating and unprofessional. Silver lining is I found out now instead of later.

  • They always are responsive and punctual. The bid was a little high but I had used Capitol Masonry once before so I knew the work would be done well. In addition to repairing and replacing all the damaged brick as described in the bid, they repointed the mortar where needed all around the house. I ended up getting far more than I expected.

  • Mike and Garrett provided a detailed estimate on site. I selected them due to their on site visit, attention to detail, and willingness to repair concrete as well as brick. René and his colleague were very dedicated to perfection and worked thru one of the hottest days of the summer. The garden wall looks new, they did a nice job of matching mortar.

  • We contracted for a small patio (14.6 feet X 10 feet) with a raised planter wall (14.6 ft. long X 3.3 ft. wide X 18” high), all done in flagstone (the planter was stacked flagstone). Phoenix cancelled and asked to reschedule our initial meeting and we almost went with another contractor. Phoenix was persistent that they have a chance to bid. After our meeting, they produced a thorough proposal, complete with a detailed scope of work, milestones and payment schedule, references, and list of licenses/certifications. Though significantly more expensive than the other contractor who provided a proposal, we decided to go with them. The masonry done by their team (Rembert and his wife, Sophie) was OUTSTANDING! Incredible attention to even the smallest detail. We cannot say enough good things about the quality of Rembert and Sophie’s work. The patio and planter are absolutely gorgeous! We were disappointed in how one member of the management team communicated, however. We asked if there would be a language problem. Phoenix acknowledged that there would be and that one of them would come to the site each day to check on things and respond to any issues. That did not happen. They also relied too much on communicating through text messages, which did not always come across well. In fact, we were royally miffed the morning after the job was completed. We finally had the opportunity to sleep in and were awakened at 6:43 am with text messages asking us if we were pleased with the project. We were very pleased with the project, but we were not pleased with the text messages at 6:43 am, to say the least. A phone call at a reasonable hour or an e-mail would have been greatly preferred. We waited a couple of weeks before writing this review to ensure that it would not be overly colored by the communication aspect. This was our fourth renovation project in as many years, and this was the only time that we had this issue, which might not be an issue for others. We would definitely recommend Phoenix Home Services for patio work, especially if you can get Rembert and Sophie.

  • Soni Singh's crew did a fantastic job installing flagstone on my terrace. They showed up early, worked hard and the result was simply beautiful. I was very impressed with their craftsmanship and professionalism. I priced out several companies and Singh's project proposal was competitive. I feel like I got a tremendous value for what I paid and I recommend them highly!

  • Santiago is very professional. He has an excellent crew and is very detailed oriented. He has the equipment and means to do the job and shows up on time. He also has the ability to be flexible enough to work with you schedule and needs which is import when working on large project on a small street. I would recommend SLG masonry to anyone based on my experiences and work that was done at my home.

  • Workers were very professional. Arrived on time, worked very hard, and did an excellent job. The foundation walls look like new and repair to brick wall is hardly detectable. I will definitely use t hem again.

  • Clint has done a great job designing the plans and explaining every step of the process to us. Steve and the team on-site are incredibly professional, friendly and most importantly, fast. I can't imagine doing any home improvement project without them. We've already got a long list of future projects for which we'll be sure to call on Phoenix!
