    Home Energy Saving Solutions LLC
Home Energy Savings Solutions (HESS) is an amazing company to work with and I cant say enough good things about my experience, quality of work, and great customer service provided by the owner Mohammed. Long story short, I had a leaking air duct in my attic that was ruining my ceiling. Based on advice and reviews online, I hired another company to perform an energy audit. They did a great job with the audit, but when it came to the proposed fixes and scope of work, they were exorbitantly priced (almost triple of what HESS charged) and very pushy about completing all the proposed fixes despite my budget. When I told my boss this, she recommended HESS based on her very positive experience. From the start, Mohammed was extremely responsive (even on weekends!) and helpful in answering my many questions. I could tell that Mohammed was truly trying to help me and not just make a profit. I hired HESS to complete their own energy audit and the results and proposed fixes were very similar to the audit performed by the other company. What I liked about Mohammed was that instead of recommending unnecessary work he told me easy fixes I could do myself and was only recommended what was necessary, advising what fixes would provide the biggest payoffs and fixes that could wait until my budget allowed. I hired HESS to install new bathroom exhaust fans, insulate my air ducts, seal/insulate/weatherize my attic, insulate my HVAC/water heater closet, insulate my garage, and basically make my entire house as air tight as possible. The all the work would have been completed in one day except due to rain, they had to return the following day to do some insulation work outside. The quality of work was great and the workers were polite and cleaned up so well I could hardly tell they were there (which is hard to do with old fiberglass blown in insulation and the new cellulose insulation). After having the new bath exhaust fans installed, I found that they werent as quite as I had hoped. Mohammed had his electrician switch them out for more expensive ones without any additional cost to me for parts or labor, which is top notch customer service, something that is hard to find today. The best part is that my house is so much more comfortable even with this record breaking heat. I was convinced that I would have to install a second HVAC unit for my third floor as the bedrooms were always so hot. That problem was solved and I can tell my HVAC isnt working as hard as the house cooks down faster and stays cool.

    Thomas Custom Builders Inc
We are very happy with our addition and the quality of the workmanship. It was a large job that required frequent communication with the county for permits and inspections, and TCB took care of all of it. The architect (Rob) designed an addition that really fit in with the existing house, and was very open and responsive to changes that we wanted. Dave and Brian were our contact people for the job, and we always found them responsive, helpful and professional. Of course with a job this big there were small problems along the way, but the important part was Dave and Brian always listened, responded quickly and fixed the problem to our satisfaction. We have a 1920's bungalow, and TCB was able to match the woodwork from the old section to the new, and we are especially happy with the craftsmanship and finishing. We get tons of compliments from friends and neighbors we don't even know. We highly recommend TCB!

    Phoenix Home Services Inc
Steve and Clint from Phoenix Home Services were fantastic to work with - from start to finish. We pulled estimates from four different contractors and their's was the most competitive by far (beware if you live in Arlington, VA - some contractors will overcharge just because the feel like you live in Arlington and they can get away with it). I appreciated their approach of waiting until all materials had been ordered/delivered and on site before starting; it minimized any delays and speeded the progress of the work. They started the week of Thanksgiving and finished right before Christmas. I was amazed at the pace at which they worked and the quality results. I'm highly attentive to details and was probably a pain in the butt at times, but they always accommodated me. They were on site every day and on time. Dan, the site foreman, and his crew were professional and highly competent and easy to get along with. Additionally, they improvised solutions when confronted with the challenge of dealing with a 90 year old home that helped make the spaces highly functional. They treated the rest of the house with care as they ripped out floor and walls in two different rooms. the project entailed renovating the original small kitchen in a 1930's colonial into an entertainment space (demo and new hardwood floors and wall repair) and renovating the old sun room into a new kitchen and living space (complete demo and reno down to the studs). They installed an all new window configuration, new siding on the outside, insulation, new floors, walls and ceilings including electrical install and plumbing where the was none previously. We could not be more satisfied with the results. A few months after the build, we discovered a minor problem (not related to their craftsmanship) and they returned and fixed the problem as part of their warranty. For any future work (we have a couple projects in mind) we would only hire Phoenix. Highest recommendation!

    Lakewood Home Builders Inc
We had a major house fire which ended up being a gut-rebuild and I went general contractor shopping. I saw reviews, interviewed five GCs and ultimately went with Lakewood. I'm so glad I did and I am a big advocate not just of their end product but the process. When you work with a GC, you're in a relationship with them. We had a great experience with Lakewood. Here are some examples why: 1. Tim, one of the partners, was an adjuster in his past and was able to help navigate the insurance world with ease without me having to be in the middle. His knowledge in giving an initial estimate, in negotiating and sharing facts with our insurance company made me feel that I was in good hands. He was an advocate. I would trust them to give me sound advice. 2. I wanted to use Google Sheets to track items I purchased vs. them. They embraced the change and indulged me in my method. This showed a lot of flexibility. 3. Lance manages the heck out of the projects he's on. He's a no BS guy--straight talker and doesn't sugar coat stuff. If it can be done, they'll tell you. If it can't, they aren't wishy washy and tell you as it is. He's at the job at 6am marking and planning for the work that needs to be done that day. He organizes a varied team of contractors that do the various trades (plumbing, electric, etc). 4. They give you the time. Projects get done before they say they will get done. They take on what they're able to manage and they are good guys. For them to be profitable, they need to use several sub contractors for trades efficiently. They make sure to plan who they need effectively. 5. A GC's work product is only as good as the work that they get done through contractors. The contractors that Lakewood uses are kind, they speak English (which was useful for me), do good quality work, and they work hard. I saw them working through weekends, late into the night, and generally seemed happy to be working for Lance. 6. The pace at which they work is great but it was a challenge for me to keep up with. Since our house was a full re-build, I was often the bottleneck in making design or product decisions. You pay for what you get. Lakewood will be competitive in pricing but they will be the higher of the options that you may have in front of you. But keep in mind that the price you pay is not just for a quality end product, but also for your trust (they take great care of your home/ area), for good advice and guidance (peace of mind), and for the experience (it's painless). So go ahead, swipe right. All the best! x-post on Google and Angies

    Prudent Homes
David was great, super knowledgeable and patient in explaining things. My house was built in 1945 and had no insulation whatsoever so I decided to change that when remodeling the kitchen. The walls aren't even closed up yet and there is no heater installed in the room yet, but it already feels far warmer than it was before just from the heat from the next room. As I continue to renovate one section at a time I am absolutely going to be calling David and Prudent to insulate as each section gets done.

    Phoenix Home Services Inc
Given the urgent water intrusion and mold remediation situation in which we found ourselves, it was a huge relief to find a responsive, knowledgeable contractor who could move quickly and put together a reliable, hardworking crew. The subs whom I met were professional and upstanding; they did good work and could be trusted with a house key. Phoenix completed all work on schedule and within tight time frames. Phoenix is also mindful of details. For example, they made sure roofing nails in the front and back yards were swept up with magnets and that all construction debris was cleaned up and removed. Most recently, when water was noticed seeping into our basement (not a warranty issue), we contacted owner Steve on a Friday. He came out the following Monday morning (after a snowstorm) to assess the situation and called his master plumber Rick who came the same day. That level of responsiveness and customer service ensures repeat business from loyal customers. Also, the pleasure of working with Jose, Paula, and Clint, all vital members of the Phoenix team!

Very pleased with the work from this company. Our house in Arlington was a new build in 1994. It is two stories with vaulted ceilings in places. There is only one AC unit, in the basement. The house should have been built with two. The temperature difference between the first and second floors became increasingly extreme. It was noticeably hotter upstairs. This became worse in the last several years. USF did a great job with attic insulation to address this. David Sampson responded promptly to my initial contact, personally came to the house and explained carefully what needed to be done. He arrived back on the date agreed on with a crew. They removed all old insulation (sucked it out) and then sealed the entire attic floor with foam insulation that became rock hard. David called me up to show me what had been done so far and explained what would happen next. Then they sprayed in new cellulose insulation to a depth of 18 inches throughout the attic. The did the entire job in one day and were meticulous about cleaning up. No mess was left. The change is very noticeable. Although the upstairs remains warmer, the difference is slight (and expected, as hot air rises). It is a vast improvement and we are very pleased. David showed me how the old insulation was inadequate and that it had deteriorated. It needed to be removed completely and replaced, which is what USF did. I appreciated the fact that David took the time to show me what he was doing and to explain things carefully. I highly recommend USF. The cost was within my expected range.

    Comfenergy, LLC
ComfEnergy did a fabulous job. This was a project that involved a lot of project planning and ComfEnergy came through with flying colors. We live in a hundred year old home, which is much harder to insulate than new construction. In addition, we wanted to avoid fiber glass, foam and other unhealthy alternatives, as we were working on creating a healthy home. Comf Energy was the only provider that offered an untreated blown in rock wool option called ProWool. This special rock wool comes from a specific supplier and needs special equipment to blow in. Carl Depner came to our house three times to first diagnose the areas that needed insulation, and then to develop an appropriate project plan with us and to coordinate project scope with our other contractors. They finished the project ahead of time and on budget, and brought in a large crew to get the job done. Everyone was highly professional and we were more than pleased with the result. They were head and shoulders above any other contractor we interviewed in the space. Many thanks for a job well done!

    Boss Design Center
When our 19 year old son suffered a severe spinal cord injury leaving him paralyzed from the neck down on 1/28/15, we didn't have to look much further than our own back yard to find a highly skilled and professional group at Boss Design to put a new addition on our home to accommodate our son. From the initial plans to allow for handicap access to the detailed craftsmanship the crew at Boss Design maintained constant communication and courteous behavior as to our needs. They really cared to discuss options for access with our son that was injured and our family throughout the process. Seans attention to detail and consistent presence each day made for an accurate timeline for completion as well as working to make everything best. Sean worked tirelessly with vendors and contractors that had generously donated to our family during this tragedy to make the best use of product and services to assist in our costs. The staff was very personal and caring of our son's privacy--they became part of our family during a time of challenge with great support, communication, and fantastic work to help our new life needs. Addition to home for handicap accessible need. Preparation, design, planning, selection and project management assistance for large scale addition. Demolition and relocation of A/C unit, vents, gas line, landscaping, basement wall. Excavation of yard and pour of concrete footings for addition and foundation, framing, structural, support, roof, re-framing of multiple areas post demo. Insulation and drywall, siding, roofing, gutters as well as windows, doors and attention to detail. Plumbing, HVAC, Electrical details. Bathroom made to accommodate handicap accessible wheelchair, fixtures, cabinet, granite, tile work done exceptionally. Bathroom tile work, trim and solid oak flooring installed. Carpet installed in lower level. Elevator medical lift support and housing details to exact detail for equipment installation. Worked tirelessly to clean and communicate throughout this project to allow for our family to maintain a sense of normalcy all while meeting and exceeding our expectations!

    Home Energy Medics
I am very pleased with the results. The owner was very involved with the project and ensured all details were taken care of and that any concerns I had were immediately addressed. My family immediately notice the difference in the climate, comfort and even quietness of our house. It also improved the effectiveness of our hvac system. We could actually tell it was on and doing the job it was intended. A huge improvement to our house and as important a renovation job as any other homeowners might consider.
