  • Tony and Marshall were very professional from start to finish. They originally quoted three different generators and laid out the exact cost for each. What I really admire is they also talk about value in your purchase. They didn't try to sell me on the most expensive model but rather the best value for my needs and my home. On the job site both Tony and Marshall handled everything. They were punctual, courteous and knowledgeable. I felt extremely comfortable not being at home while the work was performed and each night I usually had some communication about what would occur the next day. At the end of the job they explained everything to me including how the relay switch works in case of an automatic failure (so we could still get power by manually flipping the switch if necessary). Overall I'm very pleased I chose SciFi Homes to install the generator. I highly recommend them and, at a minimum, encourage anyone to get a quote from them.

  • Recently contracted Boyland to install a 22KW whole house generator and want to take this opportunity to say that I have been very impressed by the professionalism of the whole Boyland team. That starts with Doug himself, with his office on wheels and the comprehensive instantaneous quote he generated at the conclusion of his initial visit, the conscientious and careful way that the staff installed the generator, ran the required wiring underground and then restored everything so well that it is hard to tell that they were ever here, the charming and ever helpful Katy and Linda in the office, the efficient arranging of all the permits and inspections etc. That on top of a competitive price and the 10 year “bumper to bumper” warranty.

  • The generator was delivered and installed immediately. A gas line upgrade was also immediately scheduled which went off without a hitch. Still, this is not a quick process and many steps remained before the install was complete and the generator would be operational.

    We have an older house which posed challenges with getting the needed gas lines from the generator to the gas gauge located on different sides of the house. It took 2 visits to install the gas lines; extra time to get a permit from Arlington county; and then we ran into weather delays...

    Courtesy Electric kept in touch and followed through. Now that the generator is installed, it has started up every 2 weeks, as scheduled, and when we lost power one early winter morning getting ready for work in the dark, it clicked on. We only needed it for a few moments, however, it was very nice to know it works and we are very pleased.

  • Provider was contacted through email system to inquire as to whether or not they serviced a Generac generator.  They do provide that service.  Email contact led to contact by telephone where owner of company, was professional and courteous -- promised follow up by further email and telephone to set up maintenance for both Generator AND HVAC system.
    Further email follow up only occurred after prompting by reviewer and much later than promised.  Phone call by technician to set up up generator maintenance occured 3 days later than promised (and after an appointment had been scheduled with a competitor).
    Overall, experience in trying to set up appointments was abysmal.  It should not be that hard to do business with you.

  • Electrician arrived on time and was friendly/affable.  Demonstrated extensive knowledge of Generac generators and answered questions easily.
    Performed regular maintenance on the unit, which had not been serviced in some time.  Went over details of what he was going to do and provided overview.

  • Timeliness: They were one hour late during the deck construction. That's why they didn't get 'excellent' for punctuality.
    Cleanliness: Kept the work area clean at all times (hard to do when the roofs were done - no nails left in the yard).
    Appearance: Clean, respectful of clients and neighbors.
    The jobs: Were willing to do EXACTLY what we wanted but were not adverse to letting us know if there was a better way or more cost effective way to do a job. Saved us good money twice during the projects.
    Tools: Up to date - If air tools made sense, they used them. If any tool was faster but might mess up the project, they used the one best for the project. Bought one specialty tool during one project.
    Supplies, materials: Worked with us - they were willing for us to buy the supplies / materials but didn't want to go the cheapest. We disagreed on one part but when they told us it would cost more in the long run (would have to buy the better one later AND pay to have it installed) we went with their suggestion.
    OVERALL: Honest, did good jobs. Would recommend them.

  • The experience was great, and we highly recommend them. They came out, and we got a professional system and I had gotten 2 or 3 quotes, and they were in par with the other quotes. They did a great job. They weren't the cheapest, but they had a lot of features in their quote that I wanted with my system.

  • We worked for about a month with JBI to get the quote and arrange the time to have them onsite.  Overall I would give them a B+ in that regard, they worked hard to get a quote, although at times took up to 48 hours to return my calls when I followed up on an install date, permits, etc... That bign said they ultimately installed on time and without a hitch.

    The work itself went well, a couple of snags were encountered but JBI worked through them.  If I could say anything it was that they could have done a better job communicating what was going to be done on each day as they showed up to do the work.  I just about died when I came outside and saw them sawing through the siding on the front of the house.  In the end it turned out to be necessary and it didnt look too bad, but honestly our house was expensive and I liked to be informed when people are going to be sawing holes into the front of the house.

    In the end they managed everything well, the install was completed on time and all permits were acquired.  The generator works and they took time to explain how to use it, etc... The owner came and did the final QA and followed up on his promised to fix some of the caulking that was a little sloppy and repair the lawn.  Overall I would give them a A- or B+

  • I selected JBI based on price and level of expertise (they have both gas fitters and electricians on staff whereas other companies that install generators were just electricians who "contract out" the gas fitting portion of installation.)  Dan, the Sales Director, was very knowledgeable and explained, among other things, that JBI installs an upgraded battery, usually the first item to fail.  They also service the generator every six months, whereas others only service this model yearly.  Generators were on backorder due to Hurricane Sandy, but this was not a problem for me.  I signed the contract at the end of January and the generator was installed at the end of April.  The installation was seamless except one of the electricians accidentally fell into my china cabinet and some crystal and other items were broken.  They were working in a very tight area, so I was not unduely upset until I ran into problems getting compensated; this took a month and weekly phone calls.  I finally reached out to Dan, and had a check in my hand the next day!  I feel it is necessary to mention the difficulty in responsiveness as a courtesty to other Angie's list readers.  That said, the workers were all very nice and cleaned up both inside and outside of the house.  The installation looks very neat, and so far the weekly "test" is running smoothly.  I rarely even hear the generator (windows are closed along the side of the house where the generator is located) when it goes through the weekly test cycle.  Now, I am just waiting for the next hurricane!  Overall, I rate this a positive experience.

  • I ended up deciding not to put in the generators because the cost was too high. But, they were by far the cheapest I got. They were very nice to work with. I like them. The owner of the company was extremely thorough. They did everything on an iPad which I thought was pretty slick. He was able to produce a quote right there and then. He spent time with me walking around, really making sure I understood what I needed. I really enjoyed the guy.
