    Seaman, Dr. Saundra L.
Fine, ointment worked and the bump fell off a week later as I was told it would. I did not see Dr. Seaman but as nurse practitioner. I was told this at the time the appointment was made and the nurse seemed very competent.

    Rivera, Dr. Michelle A.
This was my first visit with Dr. Rivera. As a result, the time between when I booked the appointment and the actual scheduled appointment date was several months (~3 months). Note, when I called various dermatologists, the long lag time between the appointment booking and the appointment date seemed to be a common theme; therefore, this was not unique to Dr. Rivera.
Overall, my experience was very positive. The office setting was pleasant and calm. In addition, the staff was extremely helpful and professional.  Dr. Rivera evaluated my "moles" and informed me that they were not moles but, instead, seborrheic keratosis. She explained that they were not harmful, genetic and described some treatments that could help slow down new growths. She also explained the other two conditions that I inquired about. In general, my condition was non-threatening and after explaining everything she moved on to her next patient.
With that said, I spent approximately 5 - 9 minutes with Dr. Rivera. Most of my time was spent with her medical assistant and she really did a great job of re-explaining the various terms and providing suggestions for treatment. Dr. Rivera herself was gentle, professional and informative. But, to me, her staff shined by being patient, professional and helpful.
To give context, I went to another dermatologist just two weeks later and while the doctors where both equivalent, there was a huge difference in the staff professionalism and office setting (where Rivera's office clearly won out in my mind). To be fair, I've only visited each office once and maybe I visited on a good or bad day.

    Aria, Dr. Nancy
This was my first time at Dr. Aria's office. Typically, the time in between scheduling an appointment and the actual appointment date will be several months. However, I happened to call after someone had cancelled and got an appointment within a two week time frame. (This is very unusual!)
The office setting was not the most pleasant environment. At the time that I went, the waiting room was quite busy. In addition, it is windowless. Therefore, it seems a teensy bit uninviting. The staff and assistants appear to be cramped into this small space behind a glass screen. On the flip side, once you are back in the examination space, there is a lot of light and it is as pleasant as a typical examination room will be.
Dr. Aria is super friendly, likable and competent. She evaluated my problem, provided me with good information and answered my questions. She was able to apply treatment (freeze the S.K. spots) at the time of the appointment. She even asked about moles. I told her I had one on my foot which was there since birth and she wanted to see it. This was a little embarrassing since my feet were not very manicured. But, I appreciate that she was being thorough by looking at the palms and soles.
I thought the staff could have been more professional or likable. As I mentioned, the office was busy so I'm sure that they are just trying to get through their activities as best as possible. And, dealing with the general public can be awful. However, I didn't feel any love from that group of interactions.
One piece of advice, make sure that your insurance is in place. I had an insurance snafu and (w/o going into too much detail) I brought in proof that I was insured from my company but that the insurance company will not reflect this until the following week. I offered to pay up front whereupon I will bill my insurance company for reimbursement. This whole idea seemed to be close to unacceptable and I was worried that I would have to reschedule the appointment (even though I was offering to pay out-of-pocket).
Anyway, as I said, the Dr. Aria was fantastic but the staff was just OK.

    Alexandria Associates In Dermatology
I've been going to this office for a few years and have found both Dr. Simpson and Dr. Bray to be friendly and knowledgeable. I think they strike a good balance - they're not overly enthusiastic in terms of suggesting procedures or treatments, but they listen to my concerns and suggest treatments/tests they think are necessary. The one downside is that the wait can be a bit long in the office.

Dermatology & Dermatologic Surgery Group of N VA
While it can be difficult to schedule an appointment (it is such a busy office!), I really like Dr. Satoskar, and the staff makes every effort to accommodate an emergency, such as an infection. My exams are short, and at times, I do have to wait a bit to be seen, but Dr. Satoskar is thorough in her exams and treatments.

    Alexandria Associates In Dermatology
Overall I was very happy with my visit to Dermatology Associates in Alexandria. My husband had an appointment with their office, and recommended them to me. The office environment is nice, and the staff is professional and courteous. My appointment was with the physician's assistant (I was asked ahead of time if that was ok). She was very capable and gentle. Everything about the visit was positive. I would recommend this office.
