    From the initial estimate in December 2018 to the work being done in March 2019, this company was professional, prompt, and did quality work. They provided a very competitive estimate. And though I did not contact them to schedule the work for three months due to the federal govt. shutdown, they honored the estimate without question. Ryan and Caryl kept me informed as to when they could do the work. Their crew showed up promptly on each of the three days it took to rebuild my chimney, replace the terra-cotta liners, and install a new crown. They matched the existing brick almost perfectly. Finally, at no additional cost, at my request they even reinstalled a bath vent cover way up high on my home, which was not part of the scheduled work. Very pleased with the company and would highly recommend them for chimney work.

    The tech was nice, but left the remote receiver in the fireplace and after the first fire, it melted and the remote has been unusable since 2013. A few weeks ago the cap blew off in a windstorm, and I was reminded of how much I felt like this was a rip-off.

    I contacted 5 different contractors and received estimates with ranges of over $2000 difference. I tend to always choose the lowest bid, but in this particular case, I chose the highest bid and am grateful that I did so. None of the other bids included detail - The bid from Gutter Ethics included so much detail, I had to call for explanation and clarification - Mr. Stanley (owner of the business) took the time to go through item by item - including videos and photos so that I could see for myself. Being a sceptic and not knowledgeable about roofing, I still figured that a lot of these repairs might still be unnecessary, so I did ask a friend who knew more than me and he told me I was lucky a lot these things had been caught. None of the other 4 companies did anything more than give me an estimate on the 1 leak. So, if they had seen these other items, it would mean they intended to get the job, start work, and then upsell me - which I would not have appreciated! OR, it would mean I would have had more problems in the very near future. The work, when it was done, was done very professionally and done very well. The workmen were not your typical "be high on the job" types that you run into...they were efficient, hard-working and cordial. I do have to be honest to say that I had to wait a long time for the repairs to be completed. Between a lot of rain both in the fall and spring (which meant the crews got backed up and meant postponements) and working with a company that had a lot of jobs lined up, I did get a bit frustrated about how long I had to wait. But when I was frustrated, I would reach out. Mr. Stanley was almost always available to speak to me and when he was not, I received a phone call back within a day. He always took time to explain why there was a delay. I so much appreciated the very clear and prompt communication that was always available to me. And most importantly, I feel my roof will be in great shape now for many years to come.

    The estimate was provided in a timely manner. The repair date was given soon thereafter. Charlie, the foreman, and his equally hard-working helper showed up for work at the time and date indicated. By the way, Mimi Henry, their "Girl Friday" is very nice to work with, answers all questions promptly, and is quite dependable.

    Rooftop Chimney Sweeps
    Was told be another Chimney Sweep that our chimney had collapsed in on itself, which was why our gas fireplace was backing up into the house. Art came out and showed us via camera that that wasn't the case, told us what was REALLY happening and what we could/should do about it. The price to reline out chimney was half of the price the other guys quote. I expected a mess, as they have to break out the old ceramic liner. Not a bit of mess, dust or dirt in the house, they were very respectful of all of our belongings, even putting them back in place on the mantle after they were finished.

    Sixpenny Chimney Sweeps
    I scheduled an appointment for Chimney masonry repair for 26 February with a time from of the technician arriving at 9am. I had my parents take off work to be there to meet the technicians. We were called the day before to confirm this appointment. I arranged to have family take off work to be there on the 26th, however on that day no one from Sixpenny showed up. The technician was to arrive at 9am and at 11:30 when I called the company, the;customer service rep explained that the technician was on another job that was taking longer than expected and should be there in the afternoon. At 2pm, my husband called and was informed that the technician might be able to come to do the inside work rand complete the outside work the following day. However, the technician called again to tell us the technician would not be coming, but instead would come at 8am on 27 February. At 8:15 on 27 February I called Sixpenny and the CSR explained that the technician should be there in half hour. They had to come to the facility to pick up their equipment. The CSR said that they never give an exact time, but I no for a fact that we were given an 8am appointment for 27 February. I stated we were given an 8am appointment, so as of now the technicians were late. The technicians did arrive and were very quick. I just had several issues with SixPenny's disregard for their customer's time. To not take in to consideration that somone had taken off work for an entire day and not consider calling the customer to inform them of changes. I found it unacceptable and I am not sure i would recommend the company to a customer who values their time.

    The work done itself was great, but I just can't get past punctuality and timeliness, which are key components of being recommended again.

    I have chosen not to place the review on Band of Neighbors in hopes that the company would be willing to resolve my concerns.

    I am used to being upset with businesses with bad work and poor customer service. That's why I do most home improvement stuff myself. If I could give this company an A+, I would. They EXCEEDED my expectations. I am nit-picky so believe me when I say this.
    The inspection was through and free. The inspector told me we needed to rebuild the chimney, replace the furnace flue. I didn't believe him until I went up there and I easily pulled out a large piece of mortar. He also deemed our fireplace unusable as the firebox was rusted out. We did not have that repaired and will install a gas fireplace later.
    They arrived on-time and got to work in two teams. One team jackhammered out the wall in the basement for the new joint box that the furnace and water heater exhaust pipes would connect to. I was VERY worried about this as my main gas line was an inch above where they jack-hammered. The owner was on-site and there were no problems. 
    The other team tore down the chimney and took care to not harm my bushes or A/C compressor. They matched the brick near perfectly. The only problem is the brick on my 1950s home was longer than modern brick. It is hard to tell the newer brick is shorter. The work lasted until 4 pm or so. The owner, at my request, left me all the left-over brick and matching mortar along with a bag of sand. I used it to repair my front stoop and build a little patio for my front hose later.
    The workers cleaned up well. The inspector came later and cleaned up more thoroughly. In the end, we got a great chimney. Their prices were a little below average compared to other quotes we got. 
    Months later, while cleaning my gutters I noticed the mortar on the chimney crown was cracking. I contacted the company and they sent someone out to caulk it the next week. It is natural for the mortar to crack there a little as it cures.
    Overall, I recommend them for any chimney repair you need.

    One little hiccup with some ash and soot blowing into living room.  Cleaned it up.
    Inspected both chimneys and cleaned one.
    Cleaned up gear and left.

    The price was great, but the workmanship was not all that good. This company seems to specialize in chimney work, and they are probably OK for that because you can't really see most chimneys up close so sloppy mortar joints aren't really visible.  Patching a large hole in existing brick is a bit of an art, though, and their mason did not really have the skills to do this properly.
    The man who did the estimate was thorough and helpful, and although he was late, he called to let me know.  He promised to email me a written quote in a couple of days.  When the quote did not arrive, I tried emailing him and got no answer. After several days of this, I called the company and was told that their computer was down, but that Oscar (the owner) would come by my houses the next day and bring the written quote.
    Oscar arrived as promised, and said he was able to do the work that same day, so I let him. He and one other mason completed the tasks.
    He reset some loose stones in a flagstone sidewalk and filled in missing mortar. That work looked OK, though not great, as the mortar didn't really match the existing. The flagstones were irregular in shape, so the mortar joints didn't have to be perfect. I also had him brick in a hole that was left when we removed a heat/air conditioning unit that was built into the wall when a room was added onto the house.  While the color of the brick was a good match, the bricks were not laid exactly straight, and the mortar joints were not tooled to match the surrounding joints, so the patch looks sloppy. There was also a lot of excess mortar on the bricks, which left a white haze.
    I complained to Oscar that I was not happy with the brick work. He agreed to come out and clean the bricks, which he did, but he would not do anything about the crooked bricks.
